Between the NFL playoffs, basketball, hockey, and Monday's college football championship game, there should be a lot of sports to talk about. So do it!
Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 01/07/2012 - 12:01pm.
Man did the ACC ever stink up this bowl season. They finished 2-8. They now stand 2-13 in BCS games. Not only did the smell come from the teams but the ACC officials that called bowl games added to it. I warned y'all before the bowl games started to hope your team didn't have ACC officials
No matter what happens Monday night the SEC will finish 6-9. Big 12 officials will be calling the championship game.
Go Broncos, Falcons, Lions and Texans.

BUT THOSE REFS!!!! (Hell yeah, I'm shouting).
They ought to shoot every ACC ref. And Verne & Gary while they're at it. They are, collectively, the very worst in the business.

Been trying to tell you all season the ACC had the worst of the worst refs. I think that Dav would agree too.

Yeah Go Falcons. I am going to stay away from the LSU-Bama game pick. I saw the kid on the Under Armor game choose Bama over LSU and mama was pissed to say the least. Just watched a kid from around Miami pick the scUM over Bama and Awlbern during the Army All-American game.
Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 01/07/2012 - 4:15pm.
i don't really have any hard figures yet but it looks like Bama is cleaning everybody in the East/South clocks in high school recruiting. We won't really know for sure until national signing day in February. These are just verbal commitments right now Awlbern could offer their daddies or mamas money just like Scam Newton's dad got so things could change.
As for the West coast it appears that Cal is getting the ones USC can't offer scholarships. USC lost 10 scholarships for 3 years in their NCAA sanctions. It is surprising to me that they are not going to UCLA. I really don't see Jim Mora turning UCLA around.
Dawgs and Gators are coming up here and getting some of our better talent. Stay in Jawja, Florida or SC. Leave us alone. We ain't never going to win bowl games if you don't

What are these buttwipes that pick the finalist for the Hall of Fame thinking? Ray Guy should be on the current list ahead of any of those.

Us folks in south Louisiana are set for an insane Football year. Between LSU and the Saints, this place is ecstatic.

Dont know about your neighborhood but most folks are getting ready. Every local business here has a sign saying they are closing early on Monday. Food joints are saying, put your orders in early...LOL

I just came home from surfing some of the best waves in the world!! A classic Hawaiian day - blue skies, white clouds, magnificent mountains, beautiful ocean, palm trees swaying.........and picture perfect waves ripping down the reef - fast, juicy, and humming - about 8-12 foot faces. Da Killa got some good ones, so I'm in a very good mood.
I've come home to see that the Bungles tanked it bigtime, and I wasn't too interested in that game, but the Lions-Saints game could be a barn-burner. I think the Saints are one of the top 3 teams in the NFL, but it appears that the Lions are a pretty good football team also - plus, this is playoff time, so they'll be playing their okoles off. I hope it's a good one!!!
Submitted by Dave. on Sat, 01/07/2012 - 9:17pm.
...from having to play the Saints again - assuming we can beat the Giants tomorrow.

Saints are their own worst enemy right now. Bad time to play your worst game,
Submitted by UpNorth on Sat, 01/07/2012 - 11:57pm.
1. Don't blow the whistle on a fumble when the QB gets hit.
2. Actually call some holding penalties, especially when the holder is in the middle of the field, and everyone can see it, except the HL and Ref.
3. Actually cover the wide receivers, especially at the goal line, or have the guy making a 6 figure salary call time out, instead of standing there with his head up his hip pads.
4. Try to tackle, don't just throw your arm out and let the back run through the "arm tackle".
Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 12:25am.
...because if they get any kind of a D into place, along with a decent running game, they are going to be extremely hard to beat.
I think Matthew Stafford is going to have a Hall of Fame career.
He's that good.
Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 12:30am.
I thought the Lions played pretty well.......they were victimized by a couple of blown calls, and they HAD 2 interceptions - but they also have a few holes in the defense. Plus, the Saints are VERY good........and you can't give them an inch. I'm sticking with my prediction that it will either be the Pack or the Saints in the AFC..........sorry about that, Dave - I don't follow the Falcons too much, because they're rarely on TV over here - but I don't think that they are at the same level as those two teams.
Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 12:45am.
Yeah, the Lions got the short end from the zebras a couple of times.
Sad for the Falcons that the Saints remain alive.
But first they have to beat the Giants tomorrow, or it isn't going to matter.
If they do, they head for the Frozen Tundra.
The Falcons did beat the Packers in a playoff game there a while back, so there's hope.
Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 1:01am.
I've seem the Giants play a few times, and I'm underwhelmed..................so I hope that your Falcons (or as my son used to say, back when he was too young to know the meaning of 'political correctness' the Fal-coons) put the whomp on them, since I'm no Giant fan - although I really don't like the Jets.............not the players, in general, but that fat-ass, lippy-mouthed coach of theirs, who can't back up what he flaps his gums about!!!
Submitted by Rukus on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 5:22am.
But Da Saints and the Packers are in the NFC. Saints NFC South and the Pack NFC North. Just sayin'. : )
Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 10:25am.
I just checked my post, Gary............that WAS a typo that I didn't catch. Hell, I KNOW they're in the NFC - I've been a Packer fan for many many moons - before there was even an AFC!!!
But what would you expect from some dummy who lives over here in Asia???
Submitted by Boudin on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 12:43am.
If he didnt have Calvin Johnson, he would be hurting. That dude is something, good thing the Saints have about 4 or 5 players like him.
Who Dat 45, Kitties 28
Submitted by UpNorth on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 12:55am.
They DO have an All-Pro QB. IMHO, better than Aaron Rogers. If he gets 3-4 seconds to stand back there, he can pick anyone apart.
Defense? Meh, so-so. If anyone wants to win the Superbowl, they shouldn't be giving up 28 points and almost 400 yards this time of the year. That said, I think the Saints can roll over the 49's, San Fran seems to be a team built to get a lead and hold onto it. I don't think they can do that against the Saints.
Submitted by Boudin on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 1:22am.
Aint built like that. Their D is built for the red zone, not real good tonight, but usually those TD's are FG's. Not everyone has a CJ.
Submitted by UpNorth on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 12:45am.
It's been a long time. Dating myself, I was at the last game when the Lions won an NFL championship game, in Briggs Stadium, standing in the "obstructed view" SRO area.
Hopefully, Mikel Leshoure will be back, and healthy next year. And, they'll be able to pick up a true man to man cover corner back, probably through free agency. And, they need a big, fast linebacker, it was obvious this year that their starting 3 aren't that. And, Gunther has to tell his 4 down linemen that there is a running game in the NFL.
Matt Stafford, and Calvin Johnson are both headed to the Hall of Fame. They just need a semblance of a running game to get over the next hurdle. Someone who can give them 75 yards a game, or 2 who can give them 100-125 yards a game week in and week out. Then, they'll give Green Bay, Chicago, New Orleans and San Francisco fits.
Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 1:16am.
I think the days of the Lions being the doormat of the NFL are over.
LOL - And as a life-long Falcons fan, I know what that feels like.

Giving everyone fits.
Submitted by UpNorth on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 1:31am.
all I heard from the "analysts", the guys who actually played football, was that no one really, really wanted to play the Lions. Because no one knew how a game could be planned. Like I said, one cover corner back, one top tier, and one second tier running back, and one quick linebacker is what they need.
Running backs to give them about 100-125 yards a game, and to make the play action pass a real threat.

I'm no Giants fan, but that last possession by the Falcons before halftime was one of the most pathetic uses of the clock OR timeouts that I've ever seen in pro football!!! I had to go look at the surf in order to decide if I was going to keep watching, or go surfing.
Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 3:52pm.
...I guess I'll be pulling for the Saints the rest of the way.
Submitted by NC Cop on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 4:07pm.
That being said, the Falcons are only 1 TD away from being right back in it. Still a lot of football left.
Submitted by UpNorth on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 4:15pm.
Here's a thought for the Falcons, when it's 3rd and inches and 4th and inches, why not fake a run and throw to Gonzalez, or White? You keep trying to bulldoze to a first down and you keep getting stuffed.
Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 4:20pm.
Well, the surf is a little too big for the Killa today, so I'd like to enjoy a game, but I'm not good at just sitting on my couch if a game is not entertaining - so I guess I'll just clean house, do dishes and laundry, and catch up on some paperwork with the volume up, in case something happens. I hope the Steelers-Broncos game is better than this one.
Submitted by Boudin on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 4:20pm.
Trying the same crap, with the same result.
My favorite play on 3rd and short, is to line up tight, then pitch it to my fastest player, and run to the Cone or Sticks. Never fails,
Submitted by ricklail on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 4:15pm.
OMG the ACC refs are calling the Falcons-Giants game. They can't even get a spot right.
Submitted by Boudin on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 4:25pm.
Just mentioned that.
Some of the spots, and no measures have been interesting to say the least.
Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 4:35pm.
The defense has now been worn down, and the offense is playing like plucked chickens.
Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 6:07pm.
Our only two points were scored by the Giant's QB, and I think Arthur should show him some appreciation.
As for the Falcons, they need to change their mascott from a falcon to a plucked chicken.

The first team in playoff history to score a grand total of 2 points in ignominious ass-kicking.

Denver does look fired up and ready for this game - which was supposed to be a walk-over for the Steelers. But they've gotta keep doing what they're doing, and not let Pittsburg back into it.
Of course, my son is pulling for Denver, because he wants to see his Patriots crush them again.

Well, I've noticed that a lot of these 'sports experts' aren't a whole lot different than their counterparts in the MSM - they're the first to try and scathe and lambaste anyone who doesn't fit their own ideas of how things should be, and then they're the first to jump on the bandwagon when that somebody is successful. (Of course, that doesn't apply to libs or Dems, where the criteria is always 'get their backs', regardless of the outcome). I guess the 'flavor of the week/month' is a moving target with these guys.
Tebow AND his teammates (let's NOT focus on one guy, because the whole team was fired up and ready to play against a team that was basically supposed to show up, kick ass, take no prisoners, and move on to the next opponent. And I thought that the coaches had a really good game plan - after all, look how crappy Denver has played lately.
As Al Davis so famously said - 'just win, baby'......................so I guess this 'Jesus/religion crap' will just have to take a back seat to the sports MSM having collective orgasms about the game today, huh???
And I know that Rush is a HUGE Steeler fan - so it'll be interesting to see what he has to say tomorrow about the game. Personally, I think that the OT was unneccessary, since the refs took away a definite scoring opportunity for the Broncos in the third quarter on a blown call.
Submitted by Kaleidoscopic God on Mon, 01/09/2012 - 1:37pm.
I am experiencing MAJOR Schadenfreude seeing the Steelers lose the way they did (the fact they lost to Tebow REALLY takes the cake). More importantly, I am experiencing Schadenfreude seeing those blowhard Steelers fans cry and weep and make pathetic excuses. Should I be concerned?

Really.........I came home after surfing (after work) and turned on the TV - early in the 3rd quarter - and I texted to my son in Miami:
'what is this, the Bore Bowl'??? And as I continued to watch, I realized that is what it was!!! I don't know much about college football, but I do know what a good game looks like, and this wasn't it. LSU was constipated in every way possible - as I'm sure everyone noticed.
