Weekend Sports Open Thread
Almost all the NFL games are on Saturday with only one on Sunday? Anybody remember THIS ever happening?
Any excitement about the NBA returning Sunday or is this a ho-hum?
Anything else you want to talk about?

Oh the thugs open their season tomorrow? I haven't missed thug ball at all.
Hawaii Bowl today. Last I heard Nevada had sold only 10 tickets.
The bowl season kicks off Monday with my Heels playing Mizzou. If we beat them does that mean we beat an SEC team?
Actually, it started a couple of days ago.

With the introduction of the "retro" Nike Air Jordan shoes, training camp for future NBA players has moved to the shopping malls across America.
Why, even momas with their babies in tow are "trying out for the team."
America should be embarrassed that a large segment of our society has been reduced to a pack of animals, but if that's what it takes to get them to vote Democrat, well so what, I guess.
We are fast becoming a third world banana republic.

I wonder if they will be whining on Monday because they don't have any money for food or gas. If the power gets turned of so be it. Donte got him some Michael Jordan shoes. Might be nice to say all this but it is the truth.
They'll be just fine.

I don't understand the Saturday NFL scheduling
Submitted by bkeyser on Sat, 12/24/2011 - 9:56am.
It's not like their ratings would suffer if the games were played on Christmas Day; I wouldn't think. Christmas Day, regardless on which day of the week it falls is usually full of college bowls anyway, so people are watching football. And Thanksgiving has traditionally been an NFL day so it being a holiday wouldn't effect ratings. All I can figure is the college bowls took precedence and given that they fell on a Sunday this year, the NFL moved their schedule in deference. I know there's a lot of college football fans here, but the Christmas Day bowls aren't the big ones, and this is make-or-break time for a lot of NFL teams vying for a playoff spot. Doesn't make sense to me.

No football tommorrow except the Sunday night game. I wonder how their ratings will stack up with that. Only one bowl game.
The wives have finally gotten their way

Lobbying for years, American wives and girlfriends have finally succeeded in removing football from one winter holiday. Next year we lose Thanksgiving too.
In related news, children are ecstatic that their new Christmas bicycles will actually be assembled on Christmas day.
Politics is my favorite sports game
Submitted by lrgon on Mon, 12/26/2011 - 6:41pm.
The "political football' is punted, thrown, on-side kicked, lateral passed and run with every conceivable issue from birth control to border control.
Football is both offensive and defensive where the quarterback does his best to get the ball across the opposing team's border and the defensive team does its utmost to defend their border.
In the expensive seats sit the owners wheeling and dealing for more ways to make money off their teams.
Over-paid "free agents." Do they have more loyalty to a beter deal or to their home team? No more Roger Staubach's, Bart Starrs, Walter Payton, Johnny Unitas' and JimTaylors. These men played for one team for most of their entire careers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Taylor_(American_football)
These men like the once overlooked Unitas contributed to the spirit of the game in the greatest game ever played. They inspired and they overcame obstacles like being viewed by managers as mediocre quarterbacks, but went on to become football's greatest players of the sport on the field and off the field! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Championship_Game,_1958
The "all time greats" of the pre-free agent era are now mostly forgotten in this era of Me-ism and counter-culture Stunt-ism." Would any fan of the Greenbay Packers ever in his wildest dreams expect Curly Lambeau or even flamboyant Paul Hornung to put on an exhibitionist display like NBA's Rodney what's his name?
Yes, it is a new era but that does not excuse stupid behavior by men in the sports world? Team owners won't dismiss or dicipline clowns for their stupid antics except for one thing: violation of political correctness. Dressing up like a girl in a pink dress is no assault on our sensibilites but dare any sports star utter anything about "border security" or opine on the number of border jumpers in New York City and he is sent immediately to Sensitivity Training University, fined and made to apologize before the world.
The truth is the truth. And no matter how it is said. No self-respecting sports star should knuckle under to a PC - fanatical sports world.
Is it the high salaries that has ruined the pro's? Or have the pros fallen, like the rest of society and the various institutions, into the pit of selfishness, greed, narcissism? Has this organization forgotten the idea that sports is not the god but only a means to express a talent, gift, leadership qualities, etc. and to provide entertainment?
Lost, at least in my humble opinion, among the multi-million dollar salaries and endorsements for more millions, is that football is still only a game. But politics is a real life and death struggle.

Paul is on record favoring Israel's right to defend its homeland
While establishment GOP leaders postures today about being a friend and ally of Israel, they condemned Israel's right to defend its homeland when Israeli jets flew a mission (Operation Baghdad) into Iraq to knock out suspected nuke facilities. Paul defended Irael's right to do so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Opera

Poor little Paultard. The King Crank is 74. This may be his last shot. And here we are only months, ney, maybe weeks from his folding up yet another failed bid at the Presidency.
A great sadness reigns in Paultardland.

Israel hit nuke site in 81: Reagan condemns- R.Paul supported it

"The attack on the reactor project has echoes of an Israeli raid more than a quarter century ago, in 1981, when Israel destroyed the Osirak nuclear reactor in Iraq shortly before it was to have begun operating."
"That attack was officially condemned by the Reagan administration, though Israelis consider it among their military’s finest moments."
Guess who was the congressmen that supported Israel's right to send in their Falcon's on the raid that took out a nuke site in Iraq 1981?
In 2007 the Syrians got one of their nuke sites blown up by the Israeli airforce. That one ruffled the feathers of half of the Bush administration. Condeleeza Rice went ballistic when she couldn't talk the Israeli's out of it.
Paul has stated repeatedly that Israel can take care of itself and that the State department needs to butt out of their business.

Yes, little Paultard. President Reagan was all shook up about it
Submitted by The Vet on Wed, 12/28/2011 - 3:47am.
In what seemed an eternity but was only two minutes or so, President Reagan was on the line, a slight note of irritation in his voice: “Yes, Dick, what is it?” I quickly recited what happened, and he asked me to repeat the message. After pausing for a few seconds, he asked, “Why do you suppose they did that?” My answer was something to the effect that the Israelis clearly did not want that reactor to become operational.
He went silent, and the phone line again filled with the churning of the copter. With characteristic aplomb, he suddenly asked: “Well, you know what?” I said, “What, Mr. President?” His retort was classic: “Boys will be boys!”
Yes, Dick was President Reagan's nickname for the Bilderburgers as everyone is well aware.

...the Falcons REALLY, REALLY suck. And having had 10 FREAKIN days to get it right they looked like they didn't even practice. They could/would NOT tackle, catch the football on either side of the line, block,etc......This team is so frustrating. I've lived in Atlanta area BEFORE ALL "pro" teams arrived and have lived in FUTILITY!!! Hawks suck, Falcons suck, the Braves suck and the TWO hockey franchises(Flames AND Thrashers) SUCK. Agreed that the Falcons will be dusting off their golf clubs after first playoff game...............so all I have to hang my hat on is the fact that I am ROLL TIDE grad.....Now THERE'S some tradition!! come on Jan. 9th.

I fully expected a very close game. The Birds shouldn't have scored first, it just pissed the Saints off. Anyway, I'm really happy for Brees, that's one of those records that ya think will be near impossible to break. Almost 5100 passing yards in one season! And still one more regular season game to go!
Good luck in the play-offs, y'all will have to play a lot better, like y'all did during the season. Must have been some rust tonite, who knows, I just know that didn't look like the Birds I've watched this year.

tier QB in Ryan and a solid RB.
But defense, especially secondary is erratic. And no real threat on return teams.
They'll be lucky to get past first round.

Hmmm
Submitted by Boudin on Tue, 12/27/2011 - 2:35am.
If they played tomorrow, they would be in our Dome again. I think the Falcons are just missing a couple of pieces. A good H-back, a small possession receiver. The O line is very good, and Ryan has all the throws.
I like the Saints chances this year, I would like them better if we could get the 2nd seed. But we can play with the Packers, 49niners, and the Patriots. Our problem will be the weather.
I think Brees has moved ahead of Rodgers as the premier

QB in the league this year. And I'm not saying that just because he set the record. He's not quite as tall as the classic pro QB, but that doesn't seem to hurt him. He excels in every phase of the game. Hell of an arm, extremely accurate, good scrambler, sees the field well, great football mind, tremendous leader, and unstoppable will to win. That just about covers it.
Jer
Brees is the man!!
Submitted by gfrrman on Tue, 12/27/2011 - 3:19am.
NO doubt. But Falcons off. coord., Mike Mularky has got to go!!...underneath passes all day and especially after 18 pts. down(and RUN the ball???), AND a pass-rush would be helpful. And how does the #1 rec. for Falcons, Roddy White(as was Brian Finneran here since retired) drop the easy ones with TWO HANDS and makes a stupid catch with one?
Good luck Boudin, I still see Green Bay again.....but I'm not the bettin' type, so........my local Falcons??? not so much....1st round and they are out.

the ONLY weather problem would be Green Bay. That'd be NFC C'ship game. If'n I was a bettin' man that'd be my guess and that would end in a shootout...so I cross my fingers!!! (;~>
