Pulitzer Prize-Winning WaPo Cartoonist Mocks Newt Gingrich: Americans Are 'An Invented People'
Ever since Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich made his historically accurate claim that Palestinians are an "invented people," the Israel-hating media have been predictably on the attack.
Doing his part Tuesday was Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post cartoonist Tom Toles who offered readers a strip mocking the former Speaker of the House calling Americans an invented people:

The person in the bottom saying "I can fix that unum part" under magnification appears also to be Gingrich, implying that he as president would divide the nation.
Isn't it commentary like this that has been doing that for decades?
How's that "unum" looking after three years of the man from Illinois that the media convinced America would unite it like no president before?

Typical liberal argument.

It's always the same.
They make some ridiculous statement and then attribute it to someone who never spoke those words and then mock them for something they never said.
Classic strawman.
We are an "invented" people.

Anyone from anywhere in the world can come here and become an American. However, Americans can go to any other country and live there for decades, but they will never be considered a fellow countryman by those citizens.
Sadly, many of the people born here over the last several decades don't consider this country to be anything so special, that people from around the world would risk everything to live here. To truly be an American means wanting the freedom to live how you decide, and not how a class or caste system prescribes.
"Self-made" people would be more accurate, Tug.

Palestinians are a media invention used to further liberal hate of Israel.
And before the liberal apologists start whining about the Native American perspective, the wars have been fought over our boundaries. We won.
The palestinians have never won a damn thing, other than the sympathies of a bunch of Jew hating assholes.
Good point on terminology

Also, I no longer acknowledge the term Native American when referencing the indigenous people who were living here when Europeans started coming over. The word American is derived from a European name, so they can't have it both ways. Either go by a tribal name, or come up with something different.
I'm considering suing them for the use of the term, but would settle for part ownership in a casino.
alinsky

This is a perfect example of the tactics taught by saul alinsky. Read his books and you'll be able to predict the strategy of liberal politics and their media lap dogs.
The current resident of the White House and the Secretary of State are both disciples of alinsky.

A couple of days ago I made the same observation, that my forefathers came to America, a grandfather fought the Germans in WW1 and a few uncles fought the Germans in WWII. They did not hesitate to defend their "invented" status in favor of their ancestral roots.
The Palestinians are no more a "people" than the residents op Phoenix are a "people"
I feel sorry for the Palestinian children whose parents and grandparents chose the path of cowardice and conniving greed, hoping to pick clean the corpses of dead Jews after an Arab victory.
The two reasons the Arabs
Submitted by Semus on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 11:11am.
The two reasons the Arabs forced the so-called Palestinians where they are:
1) Spread Islam, eventually destroy all Western Culture, and more immediately
2) Plant the seeds of Israel's destruction.
(The left uses this fiasco because they want to destroy Western Culture for different reasons.)
Like Gingrich or not and I'm not sure I do, he had the courage to say, what too many aren't aware of, and worse many are aware but keep it to themselves.
And a third reason

They've all tried giving them some of their own countries and discovered that as a people, they are usually intolerable Aholes, resulting in having to evict them.
Not what Newt said, but
Submitted by forest on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 11:18am.
Not what Newt said, but "American" is an invented concept. It's not tied to ethnicity or even a particular piece of land, and it's not even patented. Anyone can take advantage of it if they want to immigrate, or adopt our Constitution and ideas about individualism, private property and limited government in their own country. I think "American" it's the greatest invention ever, but I have a feeling most journalists disagree.
All nationalities are invented, and Newt is correct.

In the beginning (sounds almost Biblical!) we, the people, formed little family groups. As we multiplied, we gathered into tribes.
Early on we figured out that if we needed something, and another tribe had it, but would not share, we could just go kick their asses and take it, or get our asses kicked and slink off or become slaves.
When some of the little tribes got tired of losing, they formed alliances with other tribes, got bigger, and stronger, and then got better at kicking ass.
Etc, etc, etc, until someone decided to draw a 'line in the sand" (formed a country with boundaries} and defended it, while kicking other countries asses.
They "invented" a country and the people who lived in it assumed the invented identity. Newt is right!
What's important throughout history, and today, is your ability to kick ass, because you can bet your invented ass that others will be trying to kick yours, even your so-called fellow citizens, who, incidentally, want what you have. The polite term for that is "redistribution of wealth."
I hate it when "experts" complicate a very simple concept.
That would be more accurate

That would be more accurate if we were strapping bombs to ourselves and killing Canadians.
Hey, I'm an African too!
Submitted by DontFeedTheTrolls on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 12:10pm.
Well if you are a true, secular, atheist, as the MSM would have us all believe is the 'ideal', then you would subscribe to the belief that all humans are descendents of the African peoples, hence, we are all Africans. Anyone who identifies otherwise is an 'invented' person.
Arab nationhood is invented
Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 12:13pm.
Considering the history of the Arab peoples spanning large areas, aside from a worldwide Caliphate with localized emirates this whole concept of "nationhood" as in a Palestinian nation-state is pretty much a Western concept/invention.
There is no inherent yearning for a Palestinian nation, rather just the yearning for the genocide and wiping off the map of the Israeli people.
Then the alligators in the swamp will turn their attention to the rest of the world.
The word "Palestine" has long since been nothing more than a substitute term for "a safe platform from which to finally kill all the Jews."
"Ye canne change the laws of physics....." but some politicians believe that with the right legislation you can pretend they don't really apply to your own pet projects...
Even Islam is a joke.

If they were to be able to take over the world and kill or convert everyone on the planet, they would immediately begin to wage war between the various sects within Islam. They even hate each other!
What chance does the world have of making nice and getting them to like, or even tolerate, us?
Its "cartoonist", not cartoonist
Submitted by Callawyn on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 12:21pm.
Don't you have to be able to draw to be considered a cartoonist?
If he didn't have "Mitt" and "Newt" labels on those blobs, I never would have made the connection.
I can't believe their still going on about the Citizens United case. Don't they realize that if the SCOTUS had decided that 'corporations' couldn't contribute to politics that unions would have been excluded as well? Without union money, the Democratic Party would cease to exist.
Invented Peoples
Submitted by driguana on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 1:39pm.
There are literally hundreds of examples of "invented peoples" and invented countries all over the planet....just take a look at Africa....the Scramble for Africa created dozens of invented places and peoples....Liberia, for heaven's sake ,is both an invented country and for its 16 or so ethnic groups, an invented people.....I'm thinking that, in fact, the Earth is an invented place....with an invented people....oh my, that would make both creationism and evolution correct.....go occupy that one for a moment...
I think Newt said it wrong,
Submitted by redfish on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 1:11pm.
I think Newt said it wrong, but a lot of people in the media who should know better are intentionally being dense and acting like they don't understand what he was trying to say.
The problem is that he ended up undermining even his own position on the issue -- Newt believes that there should be a two-state solution with a Palestinian state; which would supposedly represent a Palestinian people. Calling them "invented" makes you sound like you're calling them "illegitimate" in one way or another; and if they're illegitimate, how can they form a state? Either they're an illegitimate group and don't deserve a state, or they are a legitimate, and they do.
Newt's wording shows that he could also undermine his own diplomacy efforts while in office. A better way to put what he was trying to say is this --- There are often claims that Israel is 'occupying' Palestinian land, but those types of statements are blatantly false propaganda; since the people who are calling themselves Palestinians never had a state to begin with.
Now, a lot of people in the media claim to understand the situation in the Middle East, but they don't blink twice when someone says Palestinian land is being "occupied", yet they hammer down on Newt and pretend he doesn't know what he's talking about.
And OWS is an 'invented'

And OWS is an 'invented' movement. If Americans were truly invented (Remember, Larry O'Donnell recently said Christianity was invented), the media would adore us.
