As a Packer fan, gotta say...

Submitted by Tim Graham on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 10:12am.

For an 11-0 team, the Green Bay Packers seem quite vulnerable on defense and don't have much of a running game. Are the New York Giants afraid? Or licking their chops?

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 10:59am.

The Packers play as good a defense as most teams play. I don't think the Giants have a team to worry about. It is about the time of the season for them to fold. Cowboys are coming on. The Redskins and Eagles are down, stick a fork in them. I think the Cowboys win the EAST, Falcons win the NASCAR Division. 49ers win the WEST and Packers win the NORTH. Saints and Lions as the wild cards.

Only the media is talking perfection

Submitted by Kleenex on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 1:26pm.

I think the Packers are doing the smart thing by looking at the division first, home field second and the Super Bowl third. It's the media who's driving the perfect season thing, not the Packers. Now that the 49ers have lost it gives the Packers some breathing room, they can lose one game and still reach their goals. Lombardi would have liked a perfect season too, but was much more occupied with winning titles. The Packers are thinking about the easiest route of advancing in the playoffs and being perfect would be icing on the cake but not the whole cake. Repeating is the main goal regardless of what the pundits say.

First up, the West Virginia

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 11:20am.

First up, the West Virginia University Marching Band putting on one hell of a show.

This is my favorite weekend of college football what with all the rivalries. It is a shame that we won't get to see Texas-Texas A&M until at least 2018. It is a bunch of BS. I know that the Chicken Ranch has not played into the rivalry for years but it has still been great to watch. SEC schools like Florida. Georgia, and SC can play their in state rivals I can't see why those 2 can't work it out. We may not see the backyard brawl between Pitt and WVa for many years either. WVA says they are bolting the Big East for the Big 12 and the hell with that 27 months waiting period. See ya in court Big East.

On to today, my Heels play DOOK for the bell. A win would give us a 7-5 record. Maybe will get to play the Gators in the Tidy Bowl Bowl. If they lose to DOOK we don't deserve to play in a bowl

Here's a bit of worthless information. Georgia is the only team in the SEC that has a winning record against Les Miles. Will the Dawgs be looking forward to next week and let the Yeller Britches blow them out? The old junkyard defense is back and ranked 4# in the country. This should be a very interesting game what with the Yeller Britches offense.

SC-Clempson. Who really cares except Seashell. i know I don't. It is a shame they couldn't both lose.

Gators-Criminoles. This one is going to be hard to call. If they have ACC officials then it will definitely be a toss up.

Vandy-Wake Forest. Go Demon Deacs. There you have the 4 SEC-ACC match ups.

Then there is Awlbern-Bama. Wonder if they will let Harvey Updike into the game? ROLL DAMN TIDE as Harvey would say. (Harvey is the one that poisoned the trees in Tommers Corner last year.)

The landscape in college football will be forever changed next season. Will it be for the better? Enjoy the great games today.

Any truth to the rumors that UNC is looking closely at Chris Petersen?

And today's Gators/SOW game has now been dubbed the "Salvage Bowl". How utterly appropriate.

Congrats to T-Mite, Caj, & Boudin....their LSU Tigers, led by the Mad Hatter, once again put the uppity Razorbacks (oops, is that racist?) in their rightful place....and made their coach look like the bad loser that he is. Saying "F U" across the field and blowing off the handshake at the end of the game is an all hair, no forehead manoeuver.

You scooped me on that one. i had to look it up and see what was happening. Not much sports talk on Thursday and Friday so I hadn't heard about it. I'd rather have him that Gus Malzahn. I don't see anything good coming out of Awlbern except I-85 heading north.

From a Ravens fan to Noel:

Submitted by bkeyser on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 1:01pm.

I hope you were able to enjoy the holiday before tuning into to NFL network Thursday night. Clearly the Niners hadn't played a Ravens or Steelers-type team yet and were exposed as not-quite-ready-for-prime-time; though I do think they've got a bright future under Jim Harbaugh. Hopefully he doesn't lose any of his more talented assistants in the annual head coach sweepstakes and is allowed to develop a new stronghold out there in the Bay area. He could use a full off-season and pre-season; imagine how good they would be if they had that this year.

More NFL- Green Bay is still the team to beat. The question is: at what point does inevitability take over? 19-0 seems unlikely given its never happened, and injuries as the season winds down (and the cold takes over) could hit any team. Green Bay has also played the weakest schedule of the best five teams -from my vantage point- in the NFL.

The combined records of opponents through week 12 (some have played 11 games, some 10 as of today):

  • Green Bay:         48-63
  • Baltimore:          58-53
  • Pittsburgh:         55-57
  • New England:   56-56
  • San Fransisco: 56-57

I think we'll see Green Bay vs. either Baltimore or Pittsburgh in Lucas Oil Stadium Feb 5th. For the AFC, it'll depend on which city is hosting the AFC Championship Game.

This NFL break was brought to you by Bud Light- Here We Go. Now, back to your regularly scheduled NCAA programming.

AFC Rivalry

Submitted by Kleenex on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 3:05pm.

I agree. The Steelers and Ravens will probably meet again in the playoffs and the winner will most likely advance to the Super Bowl. Can the Ravens beat the Steelers a third time? They can but it will be tough as it always is between these two teams. Records are out the window when these teams meet.

Kleenex

Submitted by bkeyser on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 4:52pm.

I think they can- but of course I'm biased. I back it with the knowledge that the Ravens restructured their team, somewhat, during the off-season for that one purpose- beating the Steelers. Our secondary is less exploitable and getting better. Our O-line which was in shambles for game one and only marginally improved for game two (against the Steelers) is now healthy and improving. Our wideouts are better than the Steelers. And so is our running game. In Pittsburgh though, probably not; but they won't beat us in Baltimore.

But in either case, they'll have a tough time against the Pack. I'd have to put the favorite tag on them regardless of whom they face, short of Aaron Rogers being hurt.

Great Rivalry

Submitted by Kleenex on Sat, 11/26/2011 - 7:19pm.

Hindsight being 20/20, it was a good thing for the NFL when Modell snuck out of Cleveland. This rivalry is a great one with mutual hatred on both sides, you never would have had that with the Browns. I'm glad Cleveland got their team back but they seem to be in perpetual mediocrity there. They haven't had a thing to cheer about since Bernie Kosar.

I haven't missed the thugs at all. You should be proud of your Commadores. They are having a pretty good season so far on the court.. And the footlball team went over to Winston-Salem and just whooped the Deacs. They are bowl eliligable and will probably play in the Music City Bowl. Maybe they'll play my Heels. The ACC and SEC have ties into that bowl and the Chic-fil-a Bowl in Atlanta.

Well, it's an ugly day here - with north winds, and some rain, blowing the ocean to shreds..........so I'm doing some housecleaning, laundry, and other chores - but I've got the Oregon-Oregon State game on loud (since my niece is a Duck), and then I can flip over to the Virginia-Virginia Tech game (since my son graduated from the Darden Business School at Virginia) as I am keeping busy pretending to be a clean-freak!!! And I love replay - because I can always run over to the TV and watch what just happened while I was doing something else.
