Fox's Special Report Cites NB Regarding Biased 60 Minutes Story on Congressional Insider Trading
As NewsBusters previously reported, 60 Minutes on Sunday cherry picked Peter Schweizer's book "Throw Them All Out" to give the appearance that Congressional insider trading was mainly a Republican problem.
On Fox News's Special Report Monday, host Bret Baier cited our article on this subject (video follows with transcript and commentary):
BRET BAIER, HOST: There is a strong reaction today on Capitol Hill to a report on 60 Minutes that’s alleging some members of Congress are making a killing on stocks due to insider information. Two of those mentioned in the piece are House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. A spokesman for Pelosi said CBS based its reporting on what he called an already discredited conservative author. Boehner said in the story that he has not made day-to-day investment decisions for years.
The conservative website NewsBusters writes that by featuring four Republicans out of the five alleged offenders, the story unfairly paints the issue as a GOP problem. It says a source that has seen the book upon which the story is based, Peter Schweizer’s “Throw Them All Out,” says up to 70 percent of those named in the book are Democrats. It cites a Newsweek reporter as saying one of those is Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, saying Kerry made profits of up to $3 million on trades relating to pharmaceuticals based on information he learned as chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Health.
It is indeed nice to see this story is getting so much coverage. Regardless of your political persuasion, there is something tremendously wrong with our elected officials living under different laws than we do.
For those interested, Schweizer's book will be released Tuesday.

Peter Schweizer recommended Breitbart readers to watch the 60 min article. Now I can understand why.

is in a tie with bsnbc for dishonesty and all around disgraceful reporting. Wonder when the American people will stand up and shout to get these radicals off the air.All the hopola about this show before it aired, and pelley's "debate" proves how far in the gutter cbs has gone

I have no respect for MSM anymore. Despite the rep the left tries to put on FOX, it is at least in the ballpark of trying to be balanced. I caught morning Joe the other day and noticed they played the video of Perry's brain fart in the debates at least 5 times in a 30 min segment. I have yet to see them talk about the O'bama Sarkozy gaff during the the last week. If they have presented that issue perhaps I missed that 10 second segment.

"...there is something tremendously wrong with our elected officials living under different laws than we do."
Of course there is. It is quite simple, really.
There is a lack of Equal Protection Of The Laws.
Government, whether it be federal, state or even as local as a school board, clearly has dismissed Constitutional boundaries set forth for it to operate within.
We must restore our Constitution and we bring that to fruition by witnessing our constitution match our Constitution.
I contend that so called "case law" is the root of the problem. The Judiciary is not tasked with making law. Period. What has taken place is a tiny bit of corruption at a time, done over and over and over until all that was good and decent about our Constitution has been tossed aside.
It is much akin to making a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy ( a thousand times over) and wondering why the last copy made doesn't look anything like the original. Now add to it that no copying was ever allowed by the ones doing the copying and those tasked with stopping the copying just joined right in and copied too.
Until the poison that is "case law" is addressed forthrightly and honestly, things are only going to deteriorate further.
Protecting classes, whether they be political, racial, sexual orientation, gender or any other qualifier, is the problem. We are all supposed to be protected and defended just the same - equally. There is no such thing as congressional rights, gay rights, women's rights, black's rights, white's rights blah blah blah.
There are only equal rights or a lack of them.
America must now choose. Will we stand together for equal rights in the face of a government that has lost its way, or we will just continue to bow before the facade of qualified rights as if that is what our founders bled and died to attain and protect?
I choose to stand. How about you?

Very few such viewers also watch Fox News Channel, so unfortunately, they never get the truth. It's really sad how they greet Fox which really is the only voice of honesty with such hatred. That characteristic seems to be the pivotal one for all leftists as seen in their mobs at OWS. The truth can make one free but they're afraid of losing their power so they just let themselves to be hoodwinked by the liberals who enslave them via 'entitlements.' Sadly they don't realize how much they spend in freedom for those pittances.

As a seasoned NewsBuster I easily picked up on this when I saw the 60 minutes piece. Could I also sense a little fear in Steve Kroft's voice when he challenged princess Pelosi?

is that the implications you draw from this CBS piece is in fact true. This "legal" insider trading is in face a Republican problem, and not a Democrat problem. Look at the facts. This is the third piece I've seen on this just at Newsbusters, all condemning both Repubs and Dems for the doing this. And I have seen a breakdown elsewhere on how some specific politicians have increased their wealth while in office. Therefore, conservatives obviously have a problem with this. On the other side, we have Huff 'N Puff defending it to such an extent they were willing to even defend the Repubs they hate. Thus, they obviously have no problem with it. Ergo, this is, in fact, a conservative Repub problem, and not a liberal Dem one.
