Morning Joe Hypes GOP Setback in Ohio Labor Law Vote Without One Word On ObamaCare Defeat
Political analysts across the country were closely watching votes on two key initiatives in Ohio Tuesday to get a sense as to where the nation is on the power of labor unions as well as the President's signature piece of healthcare legislation.
On MSNBC's Morning Joe Wednesday, the failure of Ohio's Issue 2 - which strikes down Governor John Kasich's (R) anti-collective bargaining law by public unions - was raised several times as a major defeat for Republicans, but not once in three hours did the overwhelming passage of Issue 3 - which effectively makes ObamaCare illegal in the state - surface.
As the Cleveland Plains Dealer reported, Issue 3 passed by a larger margin than Issue 2 failed.
Yet this major defeat for the President wasn't mentioned once in three hours of Morning Joe Tuesday.
The show began with this exchange between the co-hosts:
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Boy, Mika, we have so much to talk about today. We've been talking about the elections last night.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Ohio.
SCARBOROUGH: Up in Ohio, a big setback for Republicans.
BRZEZINSKI: Absolutely.
Moments later, this led to a group discussion about how this result helps Obama and the Democrats heading into next year's elections while harming Republicans.
The margin this initiative lost by was also raised: 62 percent to 38 percent.
For those interested - which obviously doesn't include the supposedly conservative Scarborough or any of his guests - Issue 3 won by a wider margin of 64 percent to 36 percent.
But that wasn't the last time the MJ crew discussed just one of the results in Ohio. It was raised again with Maryland's Democratic Governor Martin O'Malley, who of course thought this was a big deal.
For some reason no one asked him whether Ohio voters striking down ObamaCare in their state was similarly momentous.
The same was true when Virginia's Republican Governor Bob McDonnell was brought on to discuss Tuesday's election results - not a peep about Issue 3.
Which makes you wonder why.
To be sure, the defeat of Issue 2 has huge implications for 2012. Nobody's questioning that.
But more Ohioans voted to strike down ObamaCare in their state than voted to strike down the Governor's anti-collective bargaining law.
As such, these results are both newsworthy with significant political ramifications.
Yet in three hours, there were numerous discussions about the one with positive portent for Obama and the Democrats, and not one single word said about the one casting another serious black cloud over the President's signature piece of legislation.
As I've been noting for weeks, despite the supposed political leanings of one of the hosts, Morning Joe more and more resembles - albeit with clear distinctions because of the variety of guests and the seriousness of the discussions - everything else offered by this joke of a so-called news network including its prime time fare.

I already commented on a previous thread but I'll mention it again. Kasich and his ads FOR Issue 2 were AWOL compared to the media blitz by the unions against it.

You are right....... I got a trash can full of flyers against issue 2, swear they cut down a small forest to print them. Kasich was MIA on this whole thing from the start! I wasn't a happy voter yesterday!

Kasich made was not omitting the police and fire from the bill. I believe they did this in Wisconsin. The ad with the grandmother stating that the firemen saved her grandchild was compelling to the bleeders.

Recall back to Morning Joe when Mark Halperin referred to Obama as "a d!ck" and there was almost a sense of panic afterwards, with Mika promising "more FAIRNESS to the President".
It's been a liberal snoozefest since. I enjoyed Pat Buchanan becuse he would gleefully slap down a liberal argument. No wonder he's gone.
Joe, you're slime. I'd rather see you cancelled than Crazy Larry or Special Ed.

As a Buckeye, I can attest the Dems and Unions did a much better job of getting their message out. Even saw Firefighters
w/their helmets and firepants donning "No on Issue 2" T shirts in the parking lot of my election location.

Proposition 2 in Ohio is an earthquake. It is significant. The Silberman decision and the vote on Prop 2 in Ohio to cause Republicans to realize that turning the country around is going to be almost impossible and that if it doesn't happen now, it will never happen.
I am pro union. I am not pro public union. Public employee unions have no one who can fight them. They are suffocating the country from local government entitites on up. They must be stopped. One would think Ohio could. One has to be dumbfounded to see that it was blowout loss. It means it is more likely that Governor Walker will lose his job as soon as they can recall him.
November 8 was a very bad day for republicans. Dig in your wallet and contribute. Get out and work. Be a local community organizer.

The unions/goons won this battle
Submitted by ohio granny on Wed, 11/09/2011 - 5:07pm.
The unions/goons won this battle but they are going to lose the war. The local government entities are going to have to make cutbacks and that will cost jobs, union jobs.
How unhappy are the local citizens going to be when they find out the response time for the fire departments/paramedics is going to be twice as long as before because fire houses are closed due to no money? I hope they put the blame right where it will belong and that is with the unions.
And how about the schools. A large percentage of the school issues on the ballot failed yesterday. The failure to uphold Issue 2 will only exacerbate the problems school districts will have to deal with. There again put the blame where it belongs, with the unions.
Blame the voters of the state who were too stupid to understand they were being lied to by the unons. Common sense would tell you if you can decrease the cost of each employee, the money for saleries and benefits will go farther.
How in the world would paying less for each employee cause fewer employees and increase response time in emergencies? It would not. The exact opposite is true. THE UNIONS LIED.
Well, I guess that 'splains the passage of Issue #3

Professionalism? Simple ad, to counter the libs, would have been -
"Do you think that fire and police are so self centered and non-professional, that if there were a crime or a fire, that they WOULD NOT come to the rescue? This is what the democrats and union leaders wnat you to believe - if it is true, then the police and fire department YOU depend on aren't worth the money the receive now - vote for the professionals, vote for your own protection . . . "
What think?
"We the People . . " Hey, congress - I'm one of the people - start listening!

Given that people are fleeing that state at a rate of about 30,000/yr, which has to be eroding their tax base, it will be very interesting to see how they are going to cover the government goonion member's benefits, and especially their retirement.
