ROLL TIDE ROLL

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 11:01am.

I remember when Whorealdo hyped his special on Al Capone's vault. It turned out to be a whole lot of nuthin'. They have hyped this game a lot worst than that. I kind of figure that is the way this game will turn out. History is more kind to the #2 ranked team when 1 and 2 meet in their conference. I think that Trent Richardson is going to show why he needs more love towards the Heisman. Besides I heard that Forrest Gump is going to be honored at halftime. Sorry Gary but I just believe that Bama will be tough at home.

VA Tech and Jawja Tech play Thursday night at Booby Dodd. The winner will probably play for the ACC title.

Heels play the Ratpack of NC State. Whithers ran his mouth this week about State. They are going to be hot. You don't need to give Moo U any fodder.

DOOK is puke
Wake is fake
The team I hate
Is NC State. GO TARHEELS

ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Submitted by Dave. on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 11:32am.

My Dawgs have a snoozer going today against New Mexico State, and even though we are missing three of our top running backs, I don't think the outcome is in doubt.

Tonight we are going to find out just exactly who the best team in the SEC (and thus all of college football) really is.

Should be a hell of a game. Glad they are playing it in Tuscaloosa, as that might just erase the  slight edge I believe LSU has over Bama.

GO DAWGS!!!

ROLL TIDE!!!

GO GATORS!!! - I'm pulling for them to beat Vanderbilt.

GO MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE!!! - Cause they is playin' the punkin puke people.

What is wrong in Austin? For so many years the Longhorns were the TEAM in the old Soutnwest conference and the Big 12. Mack needs to go to Darrell Royal, brush up on the wishbone offense and bring it back. Man that thing was unstoppalbe.

Submitted by drsamherman on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 6:36pm.

They are playing so erratically that Texas games have been reduced to yet another good reason to enjoy barbecue.

Saw that 52-20 score vs. Texas Tech, and I was a bit surprised.

Had my grandson this morning while my wife and daughters went to the Warehouse Club. My grandson started to cry when the 'horns hit the field. He may be less than a year old, but his sports analysis is on track.

Little NASCAR news

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 1:31pm.

Last night Kyle Busch wrecked Ron Hornaday who was a contender for the truck championship. Because of that Busch has been parked for the rest of the weekend at Texas. He will not be allowed to race in the Nationwide race today or the Cup race tomorrow. I say it is about time. He has been wrecking drivers in the truck series and the Nationwide series all year. Richard Childress tried to slap some sense into him several months but it only got Richard a fine.

Forgot about this.

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 2:25pm.

The ESPN program Audibles came on before the Thursday night game. It is about the NFL. Trent Dilfer asked the question who was going to win the LSU-Bama game. Big mouth Keyshawn Johnson, who is about on the same IQ level as Howard said, I hate the SEC I am a PAC 10 man, I could care less. Jerry Rice, Dilfer and this other guy were stunted. That was uncalled for but because of his race he will get a pass. So right now I have to say Johnson is dumber than MarbleMouth. Neither one is as low as Maher.

Pithy, Dave. Very pithy.

Submitted by Blonde on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 3:48pm.

My Gators just managed to squeak out a win over Vandy. We tried our best to give the game to the Commodores (whose last win in Gainesville occurred one month after the end of WWII).....but two stupid penalties on their part bailed us out and we managed to put the game winning score on the board.

Jeff Demps faked a guy right out of his shoes on the TD play....that one will be the one to watch for on the highlight reel today. Expect to see the guy in the Olympics next summer.

We are dangerously thin (inside joke) at almost every position, Coach Boom is going to have to put Humpty back together again PDQ or Gator Nation will be calling for his head.

I'll take the win, and try to be patient.

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 3:34pm.

The Heels are stinking up my TV . State is beating the crap out of them even though the score is 13-0. Well in a way I can't be too sad. I hope this game means that Withers won't be around next season. We can go get a real coach next year. Thorpe still needs to have his arse kicked until his nose bleeds for firing Butch Davis. The worst we can do is 6-6. Maybe we'll get to play the pumpkins pukes in the newest bowl, the Toilet Bowl. That will be to see who the worst team is that had high hopes when the season started.

Submitted by Blonde on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 5:26pm.

I still call it Joe Robbie. The man built it, and paid for it himself....not asking for taxpayer assistance. His children had to sell the team and the stadium to pay the death tax. Disgusting. So I always call it JRS in tribute to the man. He was an owner. Joe Robbie knew a good coach, and good players were the way to go. This fool who runs the Olphins now has b-grade stars as "part owners" to put seats in the stadium. Although he did get about 15,000 more than usual two weeks ago when Tim Tebow and Denver showed up for "Honor the Florida Gators" Day. Gators weren't there to see the 'Fins. Dude got Tebown'd.

Attention Football Fans

Submitted by Blonde on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 4:36pm.

While I know we all will be glued to LSU/Bama tonight....CSPAN is airing the Cain/Gingrich debate, which will be in a real debate format, rather than 60 seconds of soundbite proceeded by a gotcha moderator.

IOW.....really worth watching. There are also specific topics which each must discuss (details of Cain's 9-9-9 plan, Gingrich on Paul Ryan's plan)....I think everyone here would be fascinated with these topics and this format, and certainly with THESE TWO CANDIDATES.

So fair warning. Set your DVRs/Tivo and whatnot. I think this may be THE debate to see who goes head to head with McRomney.

Submitted by Rukus on Sat, 11/05/2011 - 9:53pm.

Nice stand inside the 5 by the AWESOME Tide D. I was pretty sure it was gonna be a big D battle in the 1st half. Both teams are good on O and D. Defense in the SEC is what wins NC's, unless they are playing outside the SEC, lol! The O's should both open up more in the 2nd half. These 2 are almost twin SEC teams. Gonna be fun the 2nd half when the O's open up more.

ROLL TIDE!

Edit: BTW kitty cats, if Bama had been inside the 10 with 4 downs you can bet Richardson would have knelt on the endzone with a TD.

Not so sure, Jer

Submitted by Blonde on Sun, 11/06/2011 - 1:08am.

They might need a couple of days to heal their aches....I didn't see anything close to a head case tonight (and trust me, I know one when I see one *cough* John Brantley).

But these two teams all have position players (and back ups) who KNOW their jobs.

I was really, really impressed by the tackling, and the defensive reads tonight. And the line play was really high quality. Very impressive, all the way around.

MY prediction (unlike yours, which were great BTW, I was laughing at all of them)....seemed to be there and then poof, gone (game changer for the momentum). LSU just couldn't capitalize on the change in momentum (or Bama, either). Somehow or other, Les Miles just is the one luckiest coach on the planet. All things being equal...he gets the luck (I won't rub in last year's game w/your team). Strange, but true.

We get to face a reallly mad Spurrier next week....not looking forward to THAT!

But today was a good football day.

Blonde, I would hate to think Miles made a pact with the devil..

Submitted by Jer on Sun, 11/06/2011 - 1:44am.

but he does seem to get more than his share of the breaks. [I know...great teams make their own breaks.] But, even speaking as a TN fan, that game in Baton Rouge last year had to be one of the all-time gifts from the football gods.

Ala and LSU are clearly the cream of the crop. LSU is now almost a shoo-in for Div. West champions, as is GA in the East. The only way I can envision a team beating LSU in a BCS championship game would be maybe a Stanford and Andrew Luck having a great day. Neither Bama or LSU are getting stellar performances from their quarterbacks--certainly adequate but nowhere near Luck's caliber.

Speaking of quarterbacks...I watched Brantley last week and he looked awful. Was it rust, or is he just not--and never will be--the quarterback that FLA needs?

Jer

Well Luck isnt playing

Submitted by Boudin on Sun, 11/06/2011 - 10:36am.

Against SEC defenses either. Miles screwed up the QB rotation for LSU, the knee jerk pulling of Lee killed his confidence. He was 4of5 before the first pick. And sat on the bench for the whole second and part of the third before getting back in, and the first play was a long pass.

BTW Opponents have tried 35 passes of 20yrds or longer against LSU, they have completed 5, 1 for a TD. LSU has picked-off 7 of them.

John Brantley...well. He was terrific as Tebow's back up. A pure passer, pro-style quarterback. Unfortunately, after Tebow left, Urban & Co. tried to fit him into the spread offense, and he just couldn't do it. He got hit so many times, and so hard, that he tends to "turtle", also he gets so scared he doesn't make his reads and fixates on one receiver. IMO, he was put into a situation where he couldn't succeed, and got hammered so mercilessly that he was ruined.

Charlie Weis has attempted to remedy this, but (a) our line sucks, particularly the left side, and Brantley is still getting killed, and (b) we don't have any receivers who can run routes or catch balls that hit their hands, and (c) the smurfs are fast as hell, but we have no power back. Brantley got crushed by Bama and was injured w/a high ankle strain.

So last week was a combination of trying too soon, being scared of getting crushed again, and rust. I feel sorry for the kid, a lifelong Gator (and legacy) who was just there at the wrong time. He tried. It's a sad tale.

Now, as for Les, here are a couple of things I've picked up along the way re: Mad Hatter and his luck. Enjoy!

Thanks.

I note the 2012 recruiting class is ranked # 5 by Scout.com including the 5th and 11th best OT's and the 1st and 2nd best TE's so maybe O-line help is on the way. Also, two or three secondary blue chippers. [As customary of late, there are 8 SEC teams in the top 25 recruiting classes, but only Ala at #4 is ahead of Gators.]

Driskel was the consensus #1 QB in nation of the 2011 class. Is he living up to the hype?

No, Jer, not so far

Submitted by Blonde on Sun, 11/06/2011 - 7:10pm.

He's apparently got the physical skills, but his football IQ is somewhat lacking (or so I hear).

Expect to see a fight next spring. Coby Brisset is a Weis recruit. But it's very apparent that Weis is able to work with what he has, and he's loaded at QB as far as talent goes.

It will be interesting to see what WM et. al. recruit and actually keep this year, and who plays as a true freshman next year. We are well and truly banged up right now. On WM's presser yesterday, he said he only has 9 guys on the O-line WHO CAN PLAY right now. Thin, very thin.

IMO, we're going to be stuck w/the remnants of Urban's spread for another year. At least. And although we are fast, we are small. And seeing how LSU & Bama is fast, and big....that's not a comfort.

But, it is what it is.....I'm all in, regardless.

Now, back to Tebow, who just scored again. And prior to the score, he was rushed by 8 guys, threw a gorgeous pass, which bounced off his receiver's hands....and it's HIS fault. I don't get the media scrutiny....they'll probably blame the blown punt on Timmy, too. Alas.

It's nice to see Tebow having a good game...

Submitted by Jer on Sun, 11/06/2011 - 7:48pm.

after the hammering he's been taking in the media. He's already proved me wrong. I said he would never play a down at QB in the pros. That doesn't mean I'm not a Tebow fan though. If character, heart, dedication and leadership were the only relevant measurements, he would be one of the all-time greats.

But the technical flaws in his throwing motion--like those in my golf swing which I've been aware of and trying in vain to fix for forty years--seem to be uncorrectable, and I fear will always be exploitable by defenses at the pro level. Hopefully, he'll prove me wrong again.

Submitted by Blonde on Sun, 11/06/2011 - 7:55pm.

And he raises the level of play around him.

Too bad he isn't playing with a better team. But it really doesn't matter....he's chasing his dream, if he plays for a couple of years, he has many other things in front of him.

I just love to see him prove all of the nay-sayers wrong. And his motion isn't really that awful. (But his O-line is). He can throw a rope, don't doubt it.

And just to whine about one play, the so-called "interception" LSU made at the goal line was BS. The Bama player's butt hit the ground before the LSU guy took it from him. That's my whine and I'm sticking to it!

Congratulations also to my son's best friend Roy Helu who set a new Redskins record with 14 receptions in one game. Not bad for a rookie RB. The media are going to love him until they find out that he's just as religious as Timmy!

And, of course, congratulations to the 49ers for another not so pretty win, but they all count at the end of the year.

When did Ohio State University decide to add Kennesaw State University to its schedule? And just because 800 points were scored by a couple of teams who couldn't mount a defense against The Little Sisters of the Poor doesn't mean the contest was "the game of the day". NS, I think that's a regional perspective

Submitted by Blonde on Mon, 11/07/2011 - 10:46am.

In the SEC, we value smash-mouth defense, and more traditional offense of a running game, backed up with competent passing, rather than the high flying west coast style of play. Occasionally (Steve Spurrier) we'll get a Fun-N-Gun first in the SEC, but even those teams (like Florida circa 96) had freakish D's.

I thought the LSU/Bama game was spectacular. Of course, I was happy to see Saban make some really bad decisions all game with his poor kicker. Game was on him, I don't care what the media says (they love Saban like Obama).

And I have yet to see any pass-happy, offensive powerhouse defeat the SEC champion in the MNC.  Look at LSU and Alabama, whose quarterback's are merely competent, nothing spectacular.  (in LSU's case, two who will be head cases if Miles doesn't quit messing with them)

2006   Florida 41, Ohio State 17

2007  LSU 38, Ohio State 24

2008  Florida 24, Oklahoma 14

2009  Alabama 37, Texas 21

2010  Auburn 22, Oregon 19

LSU goes all the way.  And the SEC gets #6 in a row.  IMO, a rematch with Bama should be ruled out, LSU went into THEIR house, and beat them there.  If LSU had lost, we wouldn't be hearing the rematch talk, either.  I'm fine with anyone but Boise, but actually I wouldn't mind turning the SEC monsters lose on them to disabuse EVERYONE of the notion that Boise is equal to the task of playing in the Bigs.  It would be great to crush that nonsense forevermore, but I'd hate to see LSU with an * after that win.
