Fast and Furious

Submitted by gailannr on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 10:06am.

The government-sanctioned gunrunning operation Fast and Furious was a
plot to undermine Second Amendment rights in the United States,
National Rifle Association officer Wayne LaPierre charged on Friday in
an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV.

“It’s the only thing that makes any sense,” LaPierre said. “Over a
period of two or three years they were running thousands and thousands
of guns to the most evil people on earth. At the same time they were
yelling ’90 per cent… of the guns the Mexican drug cartels are using
come from the United States.’

“This can’t be allowed to stand. What has happened in Fast and Furious
is the equivalent of our Justice Department becoming willing
co-conspirators with the Mexican drug cartels in their crimes. If any
citizen in this country had sold a gun to the Mexican drug cartels and
then those cartels had used those guns to kill good, honest, decent
people, any U.S. Attorney worth his salt would indict that citizen for
accessory to murder. That’s what’s happened here.”

“Our job is to protect the Second Amendment and that means that every
gun owner, every Second Amendment supporter needs to do everything
they can to make sure that President Obama does not get a second term
so that he can destroy the Second Amendment.

“This is the most dangerous election in our lifetime for the Second
Amendment freedom that American citizens have. A second term by
President Obama will break the back of that freedom in this country.”

This is the most dangerous election

Submitted by Dave. on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 10:28am.

This is the most dangerous election in our lifetime for the Second Amendment freedom that American citizens have.

Actually, it's the most dangerous election in the history of this nation, period.

If Obama should somehow be elected for a second term, the 2nd Amendment won't be the only thing we are going to lose.

Presidential Debates…

Submitted by Grumpy in Arizona on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 10:12am.

Last week the subject of “debates” was mentioned on quite a few news and commentary programs. The reason being the Republican debate schedule could see as many as 20 debates (or more) over this entire primary cycle… and Gov. Perry hinted that he may skip a few.

But as much as I really like the debates (not discussing the formats or questioners here – just saying I like the idea of debates) it is hard for me to believe that there will be any “Presidential Debates” once the R-nominee is chosen.

I simply do not believe the “Dear Leader” will debate anyone next year… So I’m wondering what shenanigans the administration is planning to avoid a face to face discussion of the issues.

They can try

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 11:20am.

But these days, many sites have failover sites to fall back on should the main one be affected, it's practically standard.  Redundancy is to key word to use when it comes to websites of large corporations so if Fox News goes down, it'll be for a few minutes.  Not exactly a screaming success if they were to try.

Best way to describe the redundancy method is to utilize "N+1" meaning you have a spare on hand where N is the main one.  Prevents catastrophic loss of service.

Same thing with storage of data, you don't want just one source.  This is why "data warehouses" are flourishing these days because people and companies are practicing that and using hot swap hard-drives.  You don't even have to shut down the servers, just deactivate the affected hard drive and put in a new one, takes all of a few seconds, bango presto, and the outside world wouldn't even notice.

So for hackers to want to disable something, it'll have to be on a large scale and these OWS types.....forget it, might as well join Sisyphus in rolling that rock uphill.

Scuba D. & Radical: Please stop whining about the weather…

Submitted by Grumpy in Arizona on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 12:46pm.

You folks don’t know what a severe weather hardship is! It’s going to be 83 degrees (about 3 O’clock local) here in the desert… BUT it is going to drop to 60 degrees overnight!!! – That’s a 23 degree temperature drop in just a few hours!

So you want to hear about “Weather hardship???” Well, consider that when I go out to “Happy Hour” at 3 O’clock this afternoon, I will have to decide whether to wear shorts and sandals or jeans and boots.

Yeah, my heart is really bleeding for you… (insert evil laugh here).

Best to you both!

You should be in the "Beautiful Florida Keys!"

I can't believe that all you have to choose from to wear to Happy Hour today is shorts and sandals, or jeans and boots.  Down here this week, you would also have to include some really strange costume selection, like leather chaps with NOTHING UNDER THEM, various and sundry body art, or just a jock strap (Saw a lot of those yesterday. Seems to be the costume of choice for the "diverse" boys. At least they are remembering to put the Irish potato in front), or just nothing at all.  The biggest choice seems to be nothing at all for what i refer to as the "Appearance Challenged."

GG: Stop before it's too late.

Submitted by Grumpy in Arizona on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 1:59pm.

My dear, you are succumbing to the dark side! Italics are for Italican’s!

Please, I beg you not be seduced by the evil forces inherent in Italics… I was once lured by harmonious looking vowels and consonants presented in the italic script – but it was a trap!!! Luckily I found a way of escape: A simple “courier” typeface will free you from the demonic pit of italicization!

Good luck in advance beating this powerful addiction… I know you can do it!

… you made it out in time!!!

Some of the worst “communication atrocities” I ever witnessed were when I observed normal people using Italic’s. These formerly sane people (pre-italic) started using that foul typeface on a regular basis and soon that addiction led them to the use of “footnotes.”

That is why I founded “ASIA” (Arizona Society for Italic Annihilation) of which, including myself, our membership has doubled to almost one!

Submitted by Grumpy in Arizona on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 10:33am.

However, please realize the “structure” of “ASIA” is somewhat informal or non-existent (whichever requires less paperwork). Factually though, our “meetings” are structured to focus on a single issue and follow a pro-forma routine:

Member calling the meeting to order: The question before us is – “What say you we adjourn the meeting and go get a few beers?”

Another Member (acting as recorder): “There is a motion on the floor! All in favor say aye”

Membership at large (In this case that would be you) – “Aye” or “Nay” (as you choose).

Any member: “Sounds to me like the motion has passed… unanimously.”

Any member: “Meeting adjourned… under the usual “Dutch Treat” rule.

So shipmate, welcome aboard! You are now a member of the fastest growing organization in NB history… we have tripled our membership in less than 24 hours!!!

I hereby tender my application for membership. I used to be in favor of italics but now I'm against their use. Research has shown that italics are a major cause of global warming. However over use causes global cooling. This could be disastrous because hell froze over when the Saints won the Super Bowl. To compound the problem Blonde's new tagline has caused another 200 degree drop and without that heat source from below all you yankees better prepare for the severest winter in recorded history.

I'm not racist and never have been. Some of my best friends are Italicans.

Well, you've actually got research on your side on that one.

The brain doesn't recognize words only on the basis of specific letter combinations -- the brain also scans for the overall shape of the words. Our brains actually recognize phrases based on letter shape rather than identifying individual letters and words.

So basically, reading something in ALLCAPS is a lot more work for our brains.

Submitted by Scuba Dude on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 7:43pm.

Kata, that is an extremely low price for a 3 bedroom.  I am looking for a 2 bedroom and that is the price I am looking to pay for one.

I am anticipating a lot more money to be spent when those papers get signed.  $10,000 seems to be the number to expect.

All I can say is OY!!!!     LOL

Just to make ya all jealous, I bought my 3 bedroom townhouse in Honolulu for less than a quarter mil. Less than 10 years ago, just before the prices skyrocketed. The value has doubled since then.

Submitted by Scuba Dude on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 1:35pm.

Denny,

Back in 1993 I was checking out 2 bedroom places in Hoboken, NJ. The most expensive one was $150,000.
If I had bought it and sold it before the market tanked in 2008 I think I could have turned around and sold it for $500,000.

Of course I think all in all I would prefer your place in Hawaii. :-)

Oh well, he who hesitates is lunch.

Okay, now that you put it that way, I don't miss the snow so much! I do miss the Christmas snow though.

It's fun to house hunt. Hope you find the nest that's best. :)

I noticed on a couple of other threads, that we've again been blessed with the presence of Hank Mud. Must be his regimen of treatment at the state mental health facility is done, and they let him go back to mom's basement.

Is Barack Obama Inciting Violence?

Submitted by Retired Geek on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 2:40am.

"Our greatest peril isn't the mobs on the streets of Manhattan; it's having a President who thinks he's above the law. It's having our head of state support violent insurrections here and abroad.

The United States doesn't need any more occupations; what we need is a new occupant in the White House. And hopefully, prayerfully, we will have a new one come next November."

The occupy Asheville protestors are having the homeless arrested for invading their space The homeless are eating their food just like in all the other cities. All along I thought this whole occupy thing was about the haves versus the have nots. I was wrong because the homeless are not inculded in the have nots.
