Football - what else is there?
Submitted by MisterMoney on Sat, 10/22/2011 - 10:38am.
Guess I'll start the conversations off -
This week is pretty tough for NFL Picks, but there are a few standouts. The Packers and the Ravens are strong SU favorites and should also cover, the Raiders are a high value ATS cover, and for upsets, watch for the road dog Redskins and the home dog Jets. And I like the Lions for a strong bounce back home against Atlanta, even with a diminished running game.
In the NCAA - Kansas St (-11) at Kansas had a late ATS shift from -15 to -11, I see Kansas State as 18+ point favorites. The biggie is Michigan State tonight hosting Wisconsin, most likely to decide the Big Ten (12, lol) Title, I'm looking forward to a great game from MSU and maybe with a chance for a Dantonio upset.

Heels play ClemPson down
Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 10/22/2011 - 1:06pm.
Heels play ClemPson down there where they have that damned rock on the top of the hill. I sure hope the Heels win. Need it after that disappointing loss to scUM
GO BAMA- They play the Pumpkin Puke people. The only good thing I could say about Knoxville is; oh well. Good thing the game is at Bama because hotel rooms are scarce. This is the peak weekend for leaf/color viewing in the mountains. Here's a link to cameras in the NC mountains and foothills. http://www.highcountrywebcams.com/
If you have time take a look.
Got a good friend that teaches BLET at Pitt community college. He is a graduate of Michigan State. Here's to you Bill, GO SPARTANS. By the way the Heels play the Spartans in B-ball on Veterans Day on the dock of the USS Carl Vinson. That should be interesting.
Enjoy the games today.
UPDATE--OH Crap!!! Just found out that Bambi is going to be there on Veterans Day at the game. Why can't he take Thunder Thighs and go on vacation? The cameras will show more of him than they do the game. The game will become secondary.
C`mon rick

I am a transplant from SC and also a Gamecock fan but you have to give Clemson some credit this year after all of those lousy years. Lived in Indiana now for 18 years and i am still a SC fan.

You need to switch to the Hooisers. My son in law is from Mt. Vernon, IN. He is a big ND but I am working on him. Kevin Wilson, Hooiser's coach, and I are from the same small NC town. He is 10 year younger than me. He is a first cousin to my brother in law. I know they ain't doing so good this year but I hope they can turn things around.
I am a Tarheel fan. Tarheel born and Tarheel bred and when I die I'll be Tarheel dead. Let's say that I dispise ClemPson or Clem's son. You are the first SC fan that I have ever heard say anything good about them. My brother in law is a traitor. He graduated from UNC with a degree in business. He worked in or started several banks in Columbia. He got all kinds of freebies like season tickets to the Gamecocks. He played golf with Spurrier one time. He wears Gamecock crap to my mother's house which i believe is a sin. TRAITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having said that it is nice to see that a team from my home state doing so well.:) BTW Purdue Boilers up big right now. My brother in law graduated from IU but still cant find it in my self to root for them. If i was forced to choose a team from Indiana it would have to be ND. Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 10/22/2011 - 2:25pm.
I'm way over here in Hawaii, but I do have a TV and a computer - and my #2 son is on the east coast, and he's a sports fan, so he keeps me informed about things. As for the NY Jets - I've got nothing against the players, and I like to watch a good game if I'm going to sit down for 3 hours - but Rex Ryan is a blowhard and a bigmouth, and he's making himself AND the team look bad by flapping his gums about the Super Bowl and some of his other as-yet-to-be-proven statements. I know it's New York - but he hasn't backed up any of his boasts yet.
Take a team like the Packers - they are about as good as you can get - and they just go out there and 'just win, baby', without a bunch of profiling, Cadillacing, signifying, or bragging. And they look good when they're playing!!! The Patriots are similiar - although it seems to me that a lot of people dislike them - I'm not sure why.
Hawaii is playing the New Mexico State Aggies tonight - I don't know what to tell you - but UH embarrassed themselves so badly on ESPN last week that they'll probably send NM home crying. UH is a schizophrenic team, and they ALWAYS implode at the moment of truth!!!

I'm betting that half the people in town work for JD, or run tourist related businesses around them.

When I walked into my grand daughter's BD party I had a piece of masking tape over the UNC bar on my hat. My daughter asked me what was wrong. I told her you don't want to know. It was terrible. Opel GTs were beautiful to look at, as well as a blast to drive - when they ran.
The problem was the British electrical systems, which have been a mess in just about every British automobile I have ever been associated with - and that includes a few Jags.
I long ago concluded that the under-sized wiring was the main culprit, but there were others, too.
I once had a roomie that had a beautiful TR-7 convertible, but I spent a whole bunch of Saturdays helping him to get it running in time for him to drive it to work on Monday.
The day he traded it for a Japanese car was one of the happiest days of my life. :-)

My totally trustworthy Mazda 626LX (never, ever stranded me), my hot hot hot Cherry Red Mercedes 450SL, my honkin' huge Jeep Grand Wagoneer (when it was the ONLY luxury SUV), or my Anniversary Edition T-Bird (which I am, alas, selling as I really don't need her any longer).
The Dop-El doesn't even hit the top 5.

THIS is why Tim Tebow is an NFL quarterback, and if he ever gets to a team who isn't in the cellar, will become THE franchise player they need. He raises the level of the game of all of his teammates to an incredible level.

Scam and the Panthers won today. Scam might be setting a rookie record but it don't mean crap if you wind up with a losing record. Look at what Christian Ponder did in the 1st half for the Vikings. Green Bay has come back and is kicking their butts. Looking at it now the only team that will beat the Packers is the Packers. If they start making mistakes then they'll be beat.
Yeah, but according to my #2

Yeah, but according to my #2 son, who has been a Redskin fan since he got a the pajamas and helmet as a little boy - but also has some common sense about it (he'll put his money on the Patriots) - the Redskins are awful, and will come in last in their division - even worse than Philly!!!
I'm a Pack fan..............and you've got to admit that they are playing well enough to justify their record. And speaking of 'what happened'.............what about the Lions or the Raiders???
Killa, Schwartz had the Lions study films

from the 0-16 season, he didn't want them to win too many games right away. Stafford's passes have all flattened out, Backus still can't run block, hell none of them can run block, and they let an average Atlanta team push them all over the field. Maybe Cunningham should have reviewed the San Fran video and figured out that trap block? Everyone is going to use it, until the Lions figure it out.
As for the Pack, they'll do extremely well, as long as Rodgers doesn't get knocked around too much. I still can't figure out why teams don't spend the first half knocking him down. Whenever he's been treated poorly, he gets off his game, but no one seems to ever go back and check that game video.

The Yellow Britches fell out of the AP poll but the Dawgs are ranked 22nd. This ought to be a fun week to sit back and watch you and Blonde go after each other. Two huge games for you this week. So go ahead and start taking your nerve pills early. I hope your heart is strong. Go ahead and get you some pillows to throw at the TV so you want damage it when you get mad.
rick, My Dawgs might actually have a chance against J's Gators

LOL - And they better take advantage of it, too, because it might be 10 years before another one like this comes along.

Just ask Verlander from the Tigers/Cards matchup in 2006.
I don't care what "Jersey Shore" has to offer, Pujols is the real "Situation".
Cool

I'd be OK with him going to the Sox, but I think he'll finish out with the Cards.

I have been to Rangers Stadium several times in the last few years. My son in law buys tickets when I visit to impress his mother in law. However, trust me, winning team or not, the Rangers fans are the most lackluster folks ever encountered. Maybe I have been to Death Valley too many times....;-)

Death Valley SC? You know rick was distraught yesterday by his Tar Heels In Death Valley. Again sorry rick.

Thugs who live in big cities on the East and West Coast are kinda whacky. In Baton Rouge, fans invite visitor fans to "participate" in tailgate parties and share food, drinks, and good music. It must be fun because they keep coming back!!
I attended a Philly/Orioles game in Baltimore and made the mistake of wearing a Braves hat. Those philly fans were the most rude obnoxious bunch of fat bearded drunks I ever encountered.
Give me the Astros anytime even if they are the worst team in baseball.
Uptight sports fans
Submitted by Unsane on Mon, 10/24/2011 - 10:59pm.
By and large, the sports fans up north are so frigging uptight. When the Spurs won their four championships, how many riots broke out? That's right, NONE. And when Houston won theirs back in the 1990s (and when the Astros went to the WS in 2005), how much nonsense took place? Well, if there was any, I don't know about it.

I'm not sure if my post - which was in response to your 'the Rangers fans are the most lackluster folks ever encountered' - was misunderstood.
I intended to indicate that I don't believe we are lackluster.
Sorry if I was unclear.

I have been to MLB games all across the country by virtue of very generous sons-in-law. My remark about lackluster Ranger fans was perhaps an exaggeration. Having been to LSU stadium many times, any event, comparatively speaking, would be lackluster. I also forgot to point out, the night I attended the Rangers/Yankee game, at 8pm the temperature was 109 degrees. That could explain the "lackluster".....;-)
109 degrees...
Submitted by texasborngranny on Wed, 10/26/2011 - 2:45pm.
and that's the temp in the shade!
Rangers fans came to the Ballpark in Arlington 2,946,949 times, a franchise record for the highest attendance in a single season. The first-pitch temperature was over 100 degrees 27 times during the course of the season, including 15 straight home dates from Aug. 5-31.
Some parks - west coast, east coast, southern peninsula can't even fill their parks with optimum weather.
And visitors are welcomed with our traditional southern hospitality.
Have a great day, and ya'll come back.

I'm the same way, and believe me, it burned me up to no end to see Spurs fans cheering on their freaking RIVAL in the Finals. I didn't remotely care about LeBron James and his act; the only thing I cared about was that they were playing the hated Mavs and I wanted Miami to win. For me, seeing Spurs fans celebrate a Mavs victory was shameful.
I run smack every weekend about the Cryboys. The only reason they won this week was because they were playing the Goats.
As for the Rangers...well, I'm a Lastros fan til the bitter end, and this means not being a fan of the Rangers. In fact, since my old man is a Cardinals fan, this year I have another excuse to not cheer for the Rangers. If the Cardinals win, my Christmas shopping is DONE for the year before November arrives.
Yeah, I pretty much ignore Dallas...
