Piers Morgan Tells Huntsman 'I've Never Seen Any Candidate Who Has Got Better Press' Poll So Low

Piers Morgan, likely without knowing it, made quite a statement about America's news media Monday.

In an interview with Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman on the CNN program bearing his name, the host said, "I've never seen any candidate who has got better press or had more people say he's a great guy, he'd be perfect, who was polling so low" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

PIERS MORGAN: Let me put it to you, though, Jon Huntsman. Here's the issue for you. I've never seen any candidate who has got better press or had more people say he's a great guy, he'd be perfect, who was polling so low.

Why do you think that is? And what can you do about it? I mean for many people, this is -- and to use the gambling parlance in Vegas -- your last throw of the dice. You're putting all your chips on New Hampshire.

What's indeed fascinating is that as NewsBusters has been reporting for months, it's been quite clear the media have been pulling for Huntsman - including Morgan:

  • Time Taps Patti Davis to Insist Reagan Debate Shows Candidates, Except for Huntsman, Lack Character
  • NBC Reporter to Huntsman: Are Perry and Bachmann 'Too Far Right to Win?'
  • MSNBC Touts 'Anti-Republican' Jon Huntsman vs Tea Party 'Patriotic Anarchists'

  • Newsweek's Tomasky: Huntsman a 'Narrow Thread of Hope' for GOP

  • Morning Joe Hearts Huntsman
  • Time Anoints Obama Ambassador Jon Huntsman as the GOP 'Cool Kid' In Weakest Field Since 1940?
  • Jon Huntsman Jr., the Latest McCain-Style Moderate Republican Pushed by NY Times

With all that great press, Huntsman's still polling low.

I guess liberal media members aren't going to be able to nominate the most liberal Republican presidential candidate in the field this time like they did in 2008.

What a shame.

The Media Elite Vacuum

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 11:57am.

An imported twit like Piers Morgan can never understand the conservative sentiment in the public because he spends his time working and socializing with the Leftist Elite, insulated from everyday Americans and prinicipally informed by its own self-affirming polling.

That's how Special Ed Schultz gets shocked to discover when he goes down to the Wall St. protests that they reject him as a corporate media hack, an accurate description nonetheless.

Back in the '80s, Sally Jessie Raphael hosted an afternoon show with the typical format: Bring on dysfunctional people and families, and let them crash and burn on camera. On one particularly bizarre episode that provoked groans of disgust from the audience, Raphael actually declared that in the past, people like those on stage were rare, but that today (the '80s), this type of dysfunctional family was "the new normal." The new normal?

Of course, it might seem like that to her since her producer actively solicited nothing but these social train wrecks for the daily entertainment of her audience.

But that's the nature of the MSM. Their narrow worldview is shaped by books, newspaper columns, and like-minded celebrity peers, and they have little more than disdain for those who don't agree.

Liberals Love Huntsman...

Submitted by bigdaddy on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 12:22pm.

...They really should draft him to primary against Brack Insane Oblamer. We conservatives are just too stupid to see what a great candidate Huntsman is...

All Republicans who can vote in their states' . . .

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 3:18pm.

. . . Democratic Primaries ought to write-in Huntsman's name on the ballot. It would be quite a laugh to see the state by state returns with Huntsman's name listed, even if only single digit.

That's interesting

Submitted by jon_torlin on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 12:43pm.

I seem to remember that Jimmuh Cartah was the same way, a real nice guy, got a lot of press and etc, and yet, in the end he polled so low, they had to dig a hole in the earth to reach it.
(of course, now he's a bitter old man, he's so bitter, he makes pistachios taste super-sweet)

Screw Huntsman, he's a plant.

Well, 'newscasters' like

Submitted by killa37 on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 1:55pm.

Well, 'newscasters' like 'Long Walk, Short Piers' Morgan are so self-important and smarter than the rest of us that they actually THINK that if they are saying something nice about a particular candidate, then all of us lemmings here in flyover country are supposed to join in the fawning and adulation.

Well, it worked for Boy Barry..................and now these dopes are looking for any way possible to salvage their foolishness.

Huntsman is a nothing, and he won't be around at crunch time - I just hope that a few of these other 'moderates' will fall by the wayside too.

Huntsman is NOT

Submitted by totsotvaitn on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 12:49pm.

a Conservative. Huntsman is a RINO (Republican in name only) and the type of candidate that Joe Scarborough would support. Joe Scarborough is a major RINO with warts.

The lamebrain press is trying to choose the Republican candidate and frankly I am sick of the lefty press and their dips__t game. I will think for myself thank you and Huntsman is not getting my support and I am thrilled he is not participating in the debate tonight. The reason must be he is running out of money. Yeah
