MSNBC's Bashir Challenges Pat Buchanan, Loses Badly
Someone at MSNBC should tell Martin Bashir that he might not agree with Pat Buchanan's politics, but he's not one to challenge about a matter of fact.
On the show bearing his name Thursday, Bashir mistakenly tried to refute the conservative's claim that former Mayor Ed Koch accused President Obama of throwing Israel under the bus (video follows with transcript and commentary):
PAT BUCHANAN, MSNBC: The interesting district is the one in Queens, Brooklyn that you mentioned where Turner, conservative Catholic won, and one of the reasons he did was because Ed Koch, who’s a Democrat, very pro-Israel and identified as pro-Israel, said that Turner ought to be elected in order to send a message to the president not to throw Israel under the bus.
About three minutes later as the segment was drawing to a close, Bashir foolishly challenged Buchanan on this point:
MARTIN BASHIR, HOST: Pat Buchanan, thank you. And just a mild correction, it was actually Mitt Romney who said the president was throwing Israel under the bus and not the former mayor of New York, but thank you nevertheless.
BUCHANAN: I think Mayor Koch said it as well.
BASHIR: He did?
BUCHANAN: Yes sir.
BASHIR: Okay. Thank you.
Of course, Buchanan was correct. Koch said this during an interview with Newsmax in may.
But far more embarrassing for Bashir, this reported was in a New York Times editorial Thursday:
Some analysts -- and eager Republican critics -- are also claiming it was a repudiation of President Obama's policies toward Israel. On Wednesday, an article on the Web site of the Israeli newspaper Haaretz said that ''in politics it is the perception that counts,'' and that the Democratic loss ''will be portrayed, as the outspoken former Mayor Ed Koch put it, 'as a message to President Obama that he cannot throw Israel under a bus with impunity.' ''
And the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday:
Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat with a history of endorsing across party lines, urged voters in the district to support Turner as way to send a message to Obama about Israel. Koch said voters should rebuke Obama for saying Israel’s pre-1967 boarders should be the basis for a peace agreement.
At Turner’s victory party Tuesday, Koch said Obama “threw Israel under the bus.” The voters of the district, he argued, turned the election into a referendum on the president.
Don't feel bad for Bashir. There's absolutely no requirement for liberal commentators at MSNBC to be right about anything.
They just have to bash conservatives.

That fact that Bashir was completely wrong on something disproven so easily or the way he tried to correct Buchanan with a little bit of a condescending sneer in his voice.
I remain baffled why any conservative would appear on MSNBC.

The sneering, liberal bigots have absolutely nothing to offer a conservative audience. They don't even have much to offer a liberal audience based on their atrocious ratings.

Buchanan's a Catholic. Maybe he takes seriously Jesus' observation that a doctor has to go where the sick people are.
There is sick and there is incurable.

I don't know if anyone has ever found a cure for liberalism short of divine intervention. I am definitely not board-certified in that area of medicine.

You would think growing up, having to pay your own way and having to take responsibility for your own actions would do the trick - but that obviously doesn't work.
Not always.

Maturity is a function of many, many things. Responsibility is a function of many, many things. At least that is what we consider in psychiatry and neurology in terms of defining capacity for self-care and the legal definition(s) of competency.
The current Narcissist-in-chief is quite unwilling to take responsibility for his own actions and lacks the maturity to follow through with action that would demonstrate competency. That is the essence of malignant narcissism.

Interesting.
I thought that psychiatrists measured maturity in the way depicted in those Cheez-it commercials.

Liberals are never wrong, and they never lose.
Remember how they nitpicked Palin's Paul Revere reference? Now remember how they pointed out Obama saying Lincoln founded the Republican party, which is completely wrong and easy to verify? Oh that's right you can't remember because they sorta left it out of their praise of the speech.
Obama can say 57 states but Dan Quayle still gets mocked for his spelling after 20 years.

Obama would take the first yes or no question and run off into a 27,000 word, 90 minute answer and the time would run out.

is not someone Israel can depend on for support at this precarious juncture. With the current peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan on the verge of collapse, the last thing our friend Israel needs is a Leftist American President who, like his spiritual mentor for over twenty years, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is potentially anti-Israel.
Unfortunately, Barack Obama, who received 78% of the Jewish vote in 2008, will continue to carry the majority of the Jewish vote in 2012. As Norman Podhoretz pointed out in a 2009 article in the Wall Street Journal titled Why Are Jews Liberals: "Since 1928, the average Jewish vote for the Democrat in presidential elections has been an amazing 75%, far higher than that of any other ethno-religious group."
