NYT: 'House Republicans Have Lost Sight of the Country's Welfare'
The New York Times on Tuesday told its readers, "House Republicans have lost sight of the country's welfare."
In an editorial entitled "The Republican Wreckage," the Gray Lady disgracefully claimed, "They have largely succeeded in their campaign to ransom America's economy for the biggest spending cuts in a generation" dimming "the futures of millions of jobless Americans":
House Republicans have lost sight of the country's welfare.
How so? By holding firm on not raising taxes?
Does the Times have a clue as to what's in the country's welfare?
Is giving more of your hard-earned money to a government that is just wasting it in your welfare?
It's not House Republicans that have lost sight of this. Instead, it's liberal media members like the Times editorial board that have lost sight that the country is the people not the government, and the people paying more in taxes is not in their welfare:
It's hard to conclude anything else from their latest actions, including the House speaker's dismissal of President Obama's plea for compromise Monday night. They have largely succeeded in their campaign to ransom America's economy for the biggest spending cuts in a generation. They have warped an exercise in paying off current debt into an argument about future spending. Yet, when they win another concession, they walk away.
This increasingly reckless game has pushed the nation to the brink of ruinous default. The Republicans have dimmed the futures of millions of jobless Americans, whose hopes for work grow more out of reach as government job programs are cut and interest rates begin to rise. They have made the federal government a laughingstock around the globe.
Never mind the main reasons we're at this juncture are because Democrats haven't proposed a budget in well over two years and the one the President cynically offered in February was defeated 97-0 in the Senate receiving not even one vote from his own Party.
As for interest rates beginning to rise, they've actually done nothing but fall all year.
But facts are unimportant to the Times when advancing an agenda is the goal, and the final line certainly showed this:
It's hard not to conclude now that dysfunction is the Republicans' goal -- even if the cost is unthinkable.
Actually, the dysfunction began when the Democrats took over Congress in 2007 handed a $161 billion deficit which they quickly turned it into a $1.6 trillion shortfall with trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see.
If there was any honesty left at the Gray Lady, this is what it would be telling its readers on a daily basis.

I have a tax increase I'd like to propose

A tax of 100% on the REVENUES of left wing liars like the NYT.
That way, they can borrow the rest of the money from the Chinese to cover their expenses.....let's see how long they last that way.
"Disgracefully" doesn't begin to describe their lies.

The NYT's is once again playing the same song!!! They recite the same message over and over regardless of the circumstances. You can predict what the story will say simply be knowing who the characters are. If a liberal does something, it's great; if a conservative does the exact some thing, it's bad. It isn't worth the price to even purchase the darn thing because it's always the same...
I watched that "speech" last night
Submitted by bkeyser on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 9:40am.
and I'll admit, I was embarrassed for him. He sounded like a 3rd grade teacher talking to his students. A number of points:
Why was he so orange? This one-upmanship with Boehner is getting a little ridiculous.
I've asked this question repeatedly and as yet no one has addressed it, so I'll try one more time. I've yet to hear why raising taxes (to what rate, no one has said) is desired outside of "shared sacrifice" or "compromise". Can anyone present a reasoned economic position for raising taxes right now?
Aren't prime-time presidential addresses usually reserved for announcements of some kind? Other than the specific instructions for union goons and paid organizers to flood GOP message boards, there didn't seem to be any revelations or message of national import in the speech. It was a partisan campaign stump speech delivered on national television at 9pm EDT. Is this what we're up against from now until Nov '12? Are we going to see fundraising done during Monday Night Football? That was a disgraceful effort on his part. I'm actually surprised that Boehner followed him with a speech of his own. Did all the networks carry it?
Finally, I was left with only one image after listening to that demagoguery last night: LIAR.
Sorry, BK, can't explain it

And every time his face is on TV, I reach for the remote. But I'm always left with the feeling of "gee, I wish he were Pinnochio so I could see how fast his nose would grow". THAT would be fun to see.
The dems are losing this little fracas. They know it. If you listen to their rhetoric, they'll always ascribe their fears and "results" to the republicans. Latest one (which we hooted over)....was "if the republicans keep this up, they'll fracture like cheap glass and be a minority party for decades to come".
OMO!

What channel did you watch it on? Sometimes the channels will manipulate it to make the person speaking look good or bad by modifying the voice or video. They did it enough times on Bush.
Next time you get a chance, flip between channels, you'll see/hear what I mean. I saw Boehner on Fox News last night, he looked ok to me. Didn't look like a carrot or anything. They replayed segments of his 5-minute rebuttal and still looks ok this morning.

I had on FoxNews. But take a look at this pic from the Daily Caller this morning. I mentioned it on HotAir's OT last night while the speech was live, and several people agreed. I think the boy is "bronzing".

I thought you meant Boehner given his predilection for tanning, but if you mean the dictator in chief, it's not the first time he's done that. He tries to make him look more "black" by somehow darkening his skin that you can't help but tell that he's got makeup on. Hell, I half expected some of that stuff to crumble and flake off.
His skin is actually more of a dusky greyish color(like Arabians which is most of what he is other than half-white and a tiny percentage of "negro") but I guess since Jackson Lee threw the race card out there, his makeup people wanted to try to make him look the part. They darkened his hair too despite repeated denials of having no gray hair, which he's been seen sporting on occasion.

Submitted by Bodini on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 9:58am.
WELFARE ... an appropriate word for the root cause of the financial woes this country faces. Too many leaches sucking the lifeblood from the few producers left in America.
I have renter neighbors who are not married, have four kids, two drawing SSI checks totaling $1400./mo, grandma drawing a $900./mo disability check, food stamps, medicaid etc, while the 8th grade dropout father perpetually complains about his $17./hr job being too hard. The two oldest children are by different fathers, one who is in prison and the other who is a deadbeat dad. Mom spends most of her day on the internet social networking and the remainder of her time making phone calls to government agencies trying to figure out ways to get more money for her kids. Meanwhile "DAD" drinks a 12-pack of Bud-light nightly and a case or more per day on weekends, throws his cans on the ground, leaves the meat wrappers from his food-stamp steaks on the grill, his three dogs crap in my yard, his cats walk on my car and his kids trash the neighborhood. No one has the initiative to operate the lawn-mower unless I call the property owner. 29-year-old Dad recently lost his drivers license after a second DUI, this time while driving the company truck so needless to say, a transportation problem now exists. Dad, grandma, and his "OLD-LADY" chain smoke, throw their butts on the ground, and listen to socially redeeming ghetto music all day and night at a volume that keeps the neighborhood on edge. The only noun, pronoun, verb, adverb etc. that mom appears to know is the F-word and its many derivatives. The six-years-old boy cusses at grandma and mom refuses to bust his a$$ so Grandma is threatening to move out soon, taking her food stamps and disability check with her!
This is what 50-years of progressive liberal welfare have gotten us. Its time to reverse this unsatisfactory behavior ... and NOW is the time to start the "ERA of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!

I love it when the NYT uses the word "welfare" to mean "well being" when it suits their agenda. Of course when it comes to the Constitution they want "welfare" to mean the cash payment system we now have - a meaning the framers would not have envisioned.
The General Welfare clause in Article I Section 8 is an introduction to the enumerated powers that follow and not itself a grant of power.

Your neighbors will suddenly have a little more cash to throw around, courtesy of o'bama's campaign chest and various "community organizers" who show up in your neighborhood. As for transportation -- they'll get a ride to the voting booth, along with "assistance" on how to perform their civic duty.

The easiest way to describe this debt ceiling so that ANY person can understand it is this: It's like the credit card limit. It's EXACTLY like the credit card limit. It can get raised just like a credit card.
So what happens if someone keeps overspending and maxing out the credit card, well......
TAKE THE DAMN THING AWAY FROM HIM! That's what.
Someone keeps asking for an increase is a compulsive spender who knows no limits and knows nothing nor cares nothing about frugality.

His budget director was on Fox News shortly after noon, saying "Look how we got here. Tax cuts for the rich. Prescription drug program. The only way out of that mess is to raise "revenue"".
Success. He was able to demonize Republicans, invoke class warfare, and blame Bush all in one short phrase. Agenda accomplished.

The NYT Claim
Submitted by Comrade Jim on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 10:54am.
That the House Republicans have engaged in a reckless game that has pushed the nation to the brink of ruinous default is another one of the NYT typical outrageous lies.
This latest rampage of big government, big deficits, and big debt started in 2006 when Democrats came to power in the House and Senate. The community organizer in the WH opened the flood gates.
For the NYT no lie is too outrageous in the promotion of fascist/socialist government.
