Matthews: Obama's Speech 'Like a Fox Commercial' - 'Fair and Balanced...Over and Over Again'

By Noel Sheppard | July 26, 2011 | 00:31

MSNBC's Chris Matthews appears to have a serious case of Fox News envy.

In a special installment of "The Last Word" following Barack Obama's debt ceiling address to the nation Monday, the "Hardball" host said, "I thought the President used a couple of words we’re familiar with: 'Fair and balanced.' It was like a Fox commercial" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

LAWRENCE O’DONNELL, HOST: Chris, you’re reaction to first the President’s speech.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Well, I thought the President used a couple of words we’re familiar with: “Fair and balanced.” It was like a Fox commercial there. I thought that was interesting. Fair then balanced then fair again then balanced again, over and over again to make a case for his position.

For the record, Obama said the word "fair" three times, and "balanced" seven times, but never in the same sentence.

Is Matthews now so fixated on Fox that any use of those words - no matter how separated - makes him uncomfortable?

I wonder what the going rate is for curing Foxphobia.

Two things from Tingles: I laughed my behind off that the Republicans calling the "Cut Cap and Balance" vote "bipartisan" (5 Dem votes) is a direct slap-back at the MSM and Tingles calling the Obama-Care House vote "bipartisan" because it had ONE (R) vote. Reap what you sow, moron. Don't whine and cry.

And his grrrr-grrrr-grrrr that Boehner stood at a podium with the American flag behind him. "Who does he think he is?!" wondered Tingles, and how dare he!

blaming

Submitted by grammajane on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 12:50am.

The speech started right out by blaming Bush and never stopped blaming everybody except himself. Just another whiny, poor me, speech. Am anxious to hear what Rush says about it

O'Reilly and Hannity so therefore, I caught his speech at the beginning of Hannity. I fast forwarded the thing, but caught a wierd expression of his as he ended his speech and was turning around. It looked like he was saying to himself, "Well, here's hoping that one worked!". I wonder if the "body language" gal on O'Reilly will have anything to say about it?

I yelled to the wife, "I'm gonna see how long it takes him to blame Bush."

12 seconds from the time I heard his first word.

If Matthews is comparing

Submitted by Van Halen on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 12:54am.

If Matthews is comparing Obama's speech to Fox, he must be seriously pissed off at Obama. Good time to be pissed off because everyone else is pissed off at Obama too. Why?

Three years of Obama - the VERY BEST the Democrats have ever had to offer - has given us:

- $14 trillion deficit
- ruined economy

- ignores the War Powers Act
- gas/food/clothing prices skyrocketing
- 5 wars, one with a record death toll
- foreign policy disasters

- raiding the public pension fund to avoid the debt ceiling

- lost 800+ seats for his own party

- poll numbers in the toilet

- 44 million Americans on food stamps
- Over half the states suing to get out of Obamacare.

- 1 in 4 mortgages under water

- ATF gunrunning scandal unfolding
ANYBODY BUT OBAMA!

You're off

Try a 14 TRILLION dollar DEBT. At Obama's current rate, 14 Billion is about 3.1 DAYS of deficit.

Remember -- Deficit is the ANNUAL borrowing. DEBT is the total of all we owe!

Obama is what?

Submitted by Russian55 on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 1:29am.

Today I heard an Obama defender say that he was "the most attacked president, ever!"

Uh, I think probably that record would go to Lincoln -- it went to far as to LITERALLY divide the country.

And Nixon was far more attacked by the Press than Obama. As was George W.

Millionaires and Billionaires paying their fair share

Submitted by shakyeagle on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 2:58am.

When is someone from the MSM going to press Obama on his trusted Economic Advisor Jeffrey Imelt and GE paying either zero or very minimal Federal taxes while brow beating Small Business and $250,000 millionaires to pay as much as possible? This should be a constant drumbeat until the question is answered and then the hypocrisy would not be any more clear for anyone who is paying attention to this disaster that is this administration.

Saying to Once Here!!

Submitted by scottyusmc on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 7:24am.

I could post the same text into all the related stories today.. Liberal Progressive media (all of them) put out the spin that BOB has the high ground and the GOP is the problem... Problem for them (the media pundits) is that nobody gives them an ounce of credibility any longer. They've "shot their wad" all over BOB and it shows as they enjoy their cigarettes...
