'Fox News Watch' Cites NewsBusters Piece About MSNBC, Murdoch and 'PieGate'

By NB Staff | July 23, 2011 | 16:10

A  A

As NewsBusters previously reported, MSNBC contributor Michael Smerconish on Thursday, while substitute hosting for Chris Matthews on "Hardball," actually floated the absurd conspiracy theory that Rupert Murdoch had staged the pie throwing event during his hearing before Parliament Tuesday in order to distract from his testimony.

On Saturday's "Fox News Watch," Jim Pinkerton referenced this piece (video follows with transcript and commentary):

RICK FOLBAUM, HOST: Jim, there are a lot of people out there who would have loved to have seen some type of gotcha moment. Did that happen, and how was it covered?

JIM PINKERTON: A gotcha moment defined as something dramatic and vile on television, and I guess the pie guy with the foam was…

RICH LOWRY, NATIONAL REVIEW: Yeah, the Wendi punch.

PINKERTON: I was getting to that.

FOLBAUM: Punch out the pie.

PINKERTON: As Noel Sheppard of NewsBusters pointed out, it was somebody, some nitwit at MSNBC thought obligated to say, “It must have been a conspiracy theory. The Murdochs must be behind the pie thrower heaping sympathy for them,” which just shows what passes for journalism these days.

Indeed it does.

Thanks for the plug, Jim.

Isn't it Grand?

NB is a "go to" site for many in the journalism biz.

We hear it here first, many times, on many issues.

So my thanks to Brent Bozell, Publisher, Matthew Sheffield, Executive Editor, all of our most excellent bloggers, and of course, my fellow NB'er posters.

I can't think of another site that has "Forums" like this where we can post our own topics....our first Health Care Forum had over 650 posts before the site was updated, and we are still discussing the topic, 2 and a half years later, replete with useful cites. With the collective brainpower here at NB we could replace the top tiers of government, and I KNOW we'd solve the problems we're facing in this country without breaking a sweat.

Sorry for the double post. This computer can be most aggravating at times.

NB is a "go to" site for many of those who are actually journalists. For propaganda hacks for the DNC, not so much.

This guy, Smerkonish went left during the 08 campaighn...turned him off then and have not listened since. Hear he spends a lot of air time defending his descision to support Ears and Errs.

Hyped

Could be mistaken but was Smerconehead hyped as the Conservative radio host that the Messiah agreed to let interview him?

Here's my conspiracy theory...

Submitted by mang on Sat, 07/23/2011 - 10:49pm.

How in the world could a guy get in to this hearing and FILL A PLATE FULL OF SHAVING CREAM without anyone noticing before he walked up to Murdoch??? That's what I haven't seen about this story. Where's the security?

Did someone say piegate?

As if this even compares to "throw a shoe at the president-gate."
