Welcome to my world, where every single children's book has to be scanned for propaganda before being checked out of the library. This is why we generally stick with the classics.
Were blacks better off as a family unit when they were slaves?
Submitted by shawn. on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:05pm.
It seems Michelle Bachman thinks so. I am a Michelle Bachman fan, but I don't agree with her signing this pact
This pact says blacks had more of a chance to be raised by a mother and father during slave days than the present time
On top of that the pact condemns gay marriage, pornography, quickie divorces and co habitation
I am hoping she wins the nomination but her signing this is a turn off for me

No i don't
"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President."
Yeah you don't, all right
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:20pm.
That doesn't mean a damn thing close to what you suggest that it would be better to go back to the slave days.
And she left a line out, it should be followed with "Assuming it isn't one of thousands that are being aborted on a regular basis."
-Jon

You said "Better off as a family unit WHEN THEY WERE SLAVES."
You implied in your subject line that she was trying to say they were better off as slaves.
Don't try to deny it, those are your words. Just scroll up, you can't edit that back.

This is your accusation
"That doesn't mean a damn thing close to what you suggest that it would be better to go back to the slave days."
Being better off as a family unit is not even to saying better off in the slave days
Keep twisting
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:48pm.
You can twist it every which way you want to, but it was your subject line that implied it.
-Jon
I guess we disagree

I still don't get your logic. You twist worse than Brokaw.
What if it's true?
Submitted by Tugboat Phil on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:30pm.
Black babies are aborted far in excess of their percentage of the population. Lyndon Johnson and Margaret Sanger have done more to destroy the black family in America than Jefferson Davis.
As to what effects it had on learning capability and all-around social adjustment, you have the comparison of a modern day academic, Cornell West, and another that was born in 1860. I know which one I'd rather have teaching my children.
that guy
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:36pm.
That Cornell West guy is just a right blithering idiot.
I wonder when it started that blacks were being taught not to be responsible, that they didn't have to answer to anyone, that the White Man was still trying to keep them down? People like Jackson and Sharpton have fomented that kind of thinking for years, but when did it start? After MLK was killed? MLK was the visionary who would have taught people to be proud of themselves and to help their fellow man, but Jackson and Sharpton instead taught people how to be divisive.
This came out even more strongly just after DuhOne got elected. How many times have we seen black people go around saying "ok, now you're gonna work for us" or "now we can do whatever we want" and more idiotic statements like that.
-Jon
Cmon, Jon
Submitted by SickofLibs on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:53pm.
Does this look like a blithering idiot to you?
You, Sir, are raciss.
Dunno about looks
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 4:20pm.
Considering the word "blither" is related to "blather" and another person I can think of is Eleanor Clift where she says "I stopped talking several minutes ago" but kept blathering on like a blithering idiot, yeah, I guess I'm a racist.
-Jon
Do you disagree, shawn,
Submitted by bkeyser on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:33pm.
with that statement? I don't know whether the black parents during the mid 19th century were married or not, but while WaPo states "out of wedlock" the subject statement -as you noted above- does not.
Additionally, if, as the research suggests is true, 70% of black babies born today are to single mothers, wouldn't you think that would be a greater percentage than during the days of slavery? That seems pretty reasonable given what we were all taught about the black family unit during those times.
However, it appears that passage has been removed from the "Final Version" making that particular part of the WaPo piece moot.

I think the thing that bothers me most is the social issues aspect. The pact is not just saying anyone the signs it disagrees with gay marriage, they are saying homosexuality is wrong, cohabitation is wrong, pornography is wrong
I respect individual freedoms and hopefully these are just her opinions and she will not try to use her power as President to change us
Shawn
Submitted by bkeyser on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 3:14pm.
it's a religious organization. They're saying homosexuality is a choice, marriage should be between only a man and a woman, cohabitation is not as strong as marriage and allows for easier escape (which can have devastating effects for children) and pornography exploits women. These aren't exactly surprising positions and are held in whole or in part by a large swath of the country.
Additionally, social values are a characteristic worth evaluating among our prospective leaders having the courage of your convictions is a significant measure of leadership. Agree, or disagreeing with those convictions is your choice, and you can vote your conscience based upon these, other aspects, or a combination of elements that make up the candidate.
Finally, Congress makes the laws in this country. The President can certainly propose the direction of legislation, but unless he or she has a majority in Congress, that direction would likely fall on deaf ears.

I do not agree with gay marriage, but I would not sign anything saying being gay is wrong or cohabitation is wrong or divorce is wrong. A large segment of her voters are guilty of these things she condemns

Shawn is now defending gay marriage and the homosexuals because he fears that his precious no-strings-attached nookie and pron will be next.
"First they came for gay marriage--because I didn't want to catch for a dude, I said nothing. Then they came for the queens--but blue eyeshadow makes my skin break out, so I said nothing. Then they came for the desperate floozies and the men who lust impotently after them, and there was no one left to speak up for me."

You're a danger to the rug when you get worked up.
The pact is not just saying anyone the signs it disagrees with gay marriage, they are saying homosexuality is wrong, cohabitation is wrong, pornography is wrong
Your complaint here is that homosexuals, cohabitation, and pornography are being lumped in with gay marriage. Ergo, you won't throw in your lot against gay marriage as long as the things you like are entwined with it. You admit as much just above this comment. You're speaking up for gay marriage by default, lest you and your fellow bawds be next.

Not getting worked up. Just wanted to point out I have spoken out against gay marriage because it involves changing laws but I won't tell people what the do in their personal life Is wrong if it does not hurt others.
Nice try bru, I know you really enjoy telling people to stop laying turds or how stupid they look, but perhaps you might want to look at your own false accusations and style of debate if you want to reflect on your own stupidity.

Oh yeah, he took Valerie Jarrett with him. Can't seem to get too far away without her.
Oh yeah again, he talks about political sacrifices in these "negotiations" which according to Boehner, they aren't coming together. What a putz.

Pelosi is asking the Reps where the jobs are? They need to turn this back around and ask her where they went over the 4 years they ruled.
I don't look for the July numbers to be any better. I don't know about other states but there were about 3000 state jobs in this state that were lost this month.

There's no way in hell that it doesn't go to the top in this, especially if the DHS was involved as well as the ATF. Three cabinet leaders wouldn't arbitrarily decide to do something on their own at the same time, not in this bogus administration.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_DEBT_SHOWDOWN?SITE=AP&SECTION=... (AP) --
House Republican budget negotiators have abandoned plans to pursue a massive $4 trillion, 10-year deficit reduction package in the face of stiff GOP opposition to any plan that would increase taxes as part of the deal.
House Speaker John Boehner informed President Barack Obama Saturday that a smaller agreement of about $2 trillion was more realistic.
In a statement issued Saturday evening, Boehner said: "Despite good-faith efforts to find common ground, the White House will not pursue a bigger debt reduction agreement without tax hikes."
...
So he thinks $2 trillion will fly without tax hikes? Right.
$4 trillion in cuts over 10 years is massive? Right.
The $14.3 trillion debt is massive. Obama's earlier this year $3.73 trillion budget proposal is massive. Obamacare is massive. All the spending Congress has done in the last two years alone is massive!
Oh for God's sake.....
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 10:25pm.
2 trillion? Why not just make it a GD dollar, it's going to have the same result.
What a joke. Boehner's spineless. Ain't no kind of pasta (or Ramen!) that's firm enough to get him to fight back! Penne, Linguini, Angel Hair, bow tie, pick your favorite pasta, that's all in Boehner's spine.

TSA still molesting children
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sun, 07/10/2011 - 2:28pm.
I guess like addicts, the TSA did not only cease and desist "examining" kids, but they did it twice to a 6-year-old boy. So this is molestation, pure and simple.
This was a family that was going to Disneyland and after the second search, the boy says he didn't want to go to Disneyland anymore.
TSA Molests Boy
This is a 2 minute video. You know it's a kid's dream to go to Disneyland or Disneyworld, but it was heart-breaking to hear that he didn't want to go because of that illegal action. If I had been the father, I wouldn't care if I get arrested, I would have gotten violent on them for touching my kid like that. I don't know why more parents don't except that they seem to be getting trained to accept this sort of boorish outrageous behavior.
GD Pedophiles and pervs. This keeps happening time and time again even though Pistole swears they will stop. That SOB needs to be arrested and charged with molestation even if he wasn't doing it himself, he's not doing anything about it either.

Women's world cup soccer
Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 07/10/2011 - 7:16pm.
I know that most people here don't pay much attention to soccer...........and a few of them have said some derogitory things about it also, although I know a few people on NB who are fans. Anyway - great game this morning - I was up at 5:30 AM Hawaii time to catch the women playing mighty Brazil in Dresden, Germany. It was a super game, in spite of some very dubious officiating and Brazilian theatrics (the 'samba' queens ARE 'drama' queens!!!).............and, believe it or not, the crowd - which was very mixed, was CHEERING for the USA!!!! The same people who, supposedly, look upon the USA as 'not grown up', and 'evil', and 'imperialistic', and..........bla bla bla!!!
And the ladies played their okoles off - even with only ten 'men' (that was a quote from one of the players, so go gripe to her about bigotry, all of you PC idiots!!!) - and managed to tie the game with just seconds left, and then sent the Brazilians home by winning in penalty kicks at the end!!! And the 'mixed' crowd gave them a stading ovation!!!
And the players, and commentators, after the game, were talking about the 'American spirit'!!! Can you believe this??? Hard work, never-say-die, find a way to win, don't give up................................. I expect Boy Blah-Blah to have something to say about this win, and he'll surely use 'I', and 'me', and 'my', and 'mine' a few times in his statement.....
By the way, goalkeeper Hope Solo - who is a world-class goalkeeper - is also a world class BABE!!!!!!!
