NY Mag's Heilemann: Obama's Got More Talent In His Little Finger Than All GOP Candidates

By Noel Sheppard | April 02, 2011 | 14:58

Noel Sheppard's picture

The liberal media are on a full-court press to make the entire GOP presidential candidate field look hapless and unelectable.

Doing his part Friday was New York magazine's John Heilemann who on "The Chris Matthews Show" said the Obama campaign thinks their guy has "more talent in his little finger than any of these Republicans" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Are they happy with the outlook for the candidates? Are they happy they can beat the field they’re looking at this year?

JOHN HEILEMANN, NEW YORK MAGAZINE: Well, there, there are two things I think. They’re one thing is that they’re extraordinarily concerned about the economy and whether the things that are going on in the Middle East right now are going to cause a spike in oil prices that could derail the recovery and could just mean that it’s almost impossible for him to win. And at the same time they look at the Republican field and they say, “You’ve got to be kidding. Our guy has so much, he has more talent in his little finger than any of these Republicans, and they are going to have to put someone on the field eventually, and our guy will run them straight over.” That’s what they think.

MATTHEWS: That’s what I think. It’s got to change. Something, there’s a disconnect here in the opportunity of that Party and what’s in the field.

Actually, the disconnect here is that a reincarnated Abraham Lincoln could emerge and Matthews et al would belittle him in the same way they are Bachmann, Gingrich, Huckabee, Palin, Pawlenty, and Romney.

The playbook has been the same for decades: the Republican candidate is either too stupid, too corrupt, or too radical to be president.

You'd think after all these years these folks would learn a new tune.

The guy has been a complete and utter disaster--->Gitmo still open, another war--done w/o going to Congress, gas has doubled, budget deficits that are incomprehensible, massive unfunded healthcare entitlement, still no true job growth etc (the list could go on forever).......................If Bush had only a couple of these the nightly news would be screaming for change. I remain amazed at how the MSM "tune" changes by who sits in power.

Submitted by BikerHoop on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 4:43pm.

It's kinda like selling the old beater in the driveway. It's got more bad points than good, so you have to way oversell it in order for someone to buy the crap. With Democrats turning against DuhOne daily, they have to 'turn up the volume' on their selling tactics in order to even stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning. Sure, it's not gonna help, but they'll never admit that.

what GOP candidates?

All I have seen are the predictable candidates in polls and or those the media have picked to choose from, I have not seen the actual line up yet.

As for President Obama's talent, I don't believe 2012 will be another America's got talent moment as we are living the repercussions of choosing reading talent over leadership skill, talented activist working agenda over crucial priority and the countrys best interest, and talented traveling salesman with charisma above all else.
Perhaps there is a little island some where that seeks such talent but America must not make the mistake of electing such "talent" again.

"Our Guy" - Zero pretense of neutrality.

The one thing Obama has done for America is provide the conduit to expose completely the activistic rank bias the national media has for all things Democrat.

It should be part of the RNC's blueprint for future elections to hang the failures of the Left and Obama on the Media, and vice versa, at most every opportunity.  Never let the public forget the Left's and Media's contempt and manipulation.

The living sap of today outgrows the dead rind of yesterday. The hand entrusted with power becomes, either form human depravity or esprit de corps, the necessary enemy of the people. Only by continued oversight can the democrat in office be prevented from hardening into a despot; only by unintermitted agitation can a people be sufficiently awake to principle not to let liberty be smothered in material prosperity.”

“Today we grieve for the families who have lost loved ones, the hearts that have been broken and the young lives that could have been. America it is time to start bringing our troops home. It’s time to admit that no amount of American lives can resolve the political disagreement that lies at the heart of someone else’s civil war. Bullshit

Submitted by Bill Brasky on Sun, 04/03/2011 - 12:16am.

"Obama has more talent in his little finger than..." well then why does he make so many stupid fucking decisions? The reality is Barack Obama is the black kid who was always told how smart he is all through school. This continued through his career as a community agitator, and his political career. He is a man of average intelligence who has always been surrounded by guilty white liberals eager to inflate the "clean, articulate" black mans ego and self image to make themselves feel good. It is one of the great liberal lies that Obama is some sort of brilliant intellectual. The man is no smarter than good old George W Bush.

F bombs and Brasky

Submitted by NotFondOfLibs on Sun, 04/03/2011 - 1:59am.

Sorry to break it to you, Jer, but Brasky only had 1 f-bomb, which I admit was out of place. On the other hand, he was absolutely correct in his assessment of Obama . You may not like it, but you're going to live with it, pal. It's unfortunate we have a media that was so wild about Obama that they looked past every one of his flaws and gushed over him as if he were the greatest thing sinced sliced cheese. The fact is, Obama is every bit as incompetent as people who don't gush over him say he is. What can we say for someone like David Brooks of the NY Times who decided the crease in Obama's pants was evidence that he would be a great President. David Brooks proved he was nothing but a stupid fool who gushes over people for their surface looks instead of their inner character.

OK, so I am guilty of using the occasional naughty word to make a point. Most of the time it was in the context of mocking Bill Maher, Anthony Weiner, Ed Schultz etc. Perhaps the F word is in poor taste, but the rest are pretty mild. Not looking to offend, just vent a little steam and make fun of these ridiculous liberals in the media.

Jer, I've seen the 'bullsh*t' here on the website many a time - and I wouldn't call it 'scatological' in the way that it is used. I've also seen the 'f-bomb' in various configurations, but usually not spelled out completely, so maybe you have a point there - although the NB editors DID let it print, right?

Other than that, what part of Brasky's post (and I haven't seen him here before, so I've got no 'horse in the race' here) wasn't accurate - at least in my opinion - and I'm sure a LOT of other people's opinion also???

My only problem with his post is that he called Boy Barry a 'black kid'.........and the fact of the matter is that Boy Blunder is MORE white than black, and he has NO history or 'gravitas' in the 'black' American experience............

The Full Press in On

Submitted by Nightfly on Sun, 04/03/2011 - 11:06am.

The liberal press will waste no time pumping up their man child while demonizing all potential conservative candidates. If they can just create some kind of facade that makes the economy look good. I recently noted the the unemployment rate fell slightly and the headline proclaimed that it "plummeted". Convince those still unemployed that things are getting better. Convince those in my company who were laid off this past week. Haven't hit the unemployment lines yet. More high tech jobs lost. Selling a loser like Obama is a tough sell, but the lamestream media are all in lock step.

Re: Unemployment

On NPR's "Weekend Edition" Sunday here was a report about unemployment, and surprisingly NPR made a small effort at objectivity. The story reported on the "good news" about the unemployment rate dropping slightly and 200K+ jobs being added, but then also mentioned that the unemployment rate omits a lot of people, including those who have stopped looking.

I was a little shocked by NPR's brief departure from cheerleading for BHO.

More Talent in Finger

Submitted by Mad-j on Sun, 04/03/2011 - 3:02pm.

BHO might have more talent in his little finger than all GOP candidates, but, maybe, just maybe, his little finger is larger than theirs.

The saddest part is...

Submitted by MacWell on Sun, 04/03/2011 - 6:49pm.

That the libtards actually do believe what they're saying. They really believe Obama is one of the smartest men in the world. Thing is, they've been waiting for the right person to come along with enough charisma to pull off communism/socialism/progressivism right in front of our noses.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but MORE reason to believe that the 2012 elections will be the most important in America's history.
We the people will make the choice to___________?
Will America remain the land of the free and the home of the brave?
OR
Will we allow America to become just another (fellow member) of the Borg, that is Europe.
America is GREATER than Europe.
Look at what we've accomplished is such a short time!
We the people can return America to the greatest society in the world.
We MUST elect only men and women of GREAT character, unafraid to take on the big boys.
The next president MUST have the courage to tackle the monster that is the FED, and TAKE America's real wealth from the hands of the modern day (robber barons), and return it to us.

What kind of talent?

Submitted by bannie52 on Sun, 04/03/2011 - 6:50pm.

There are many KINDS of talents. Now. if we were talking about brains, grace, or decency, I'd have to argue.

Liberals in the media

Submitted by NotFondOfLibs on Mon, 04/04/2011 - 12:09am.

There is nothing more disgusting than listening to liberals gush about liberals, especially on shows like Hardball. It is even more humorous to hear these people proclaim themselves to be journalists when it is obvious they are nothing but water carriers for fools like Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and the rest of those cockroaches. We have no objective media in this country, therefore it is important for those who want Obama out to discredit the NY Times, Washington Post, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and the rest of that ilk so they cannot choose the Republican candidate as they were able to do in 2008.
