Bill Maher: 'Bush Had the Thinnest Résumé for President Anyone Had Ever Seen'
Bill Maher said Friday that George W. Bush when he first ran for president had the "thinnest résumé anyone had ever seen."
Such happened on HBO's "Real Time" during an interview with author T.C. Boyle (video follows with transcript and commentary):
BILL MAHER: But people like confidence, don't they? I mean, that is part of the attraction there.
T.C. BOYLE, AUTHOR: Well, they have charisma.
MAHER: It doesn't matter what you're saying. I mean, obviously, Charlie [Sheen] is saying crazy stuff. It’s the fact that he's so confident in what he's saying. Reminds me of George Bush. George Bush was like that. When George Bush ran for president he had the thinnest résumé anyone had ever seen. He was just the ne'er-do-well son of a, of a, you know, guy who had been president. And, but he acted like he owned the f--king world.
BOYLE: It gets worse. It gets worse. I had to explain American foreign policy to audiences in Germany and France for eight years.
MAHER: Why?
BOYCE: Well because everybody's saying, “This is your president. What do you want from him? Who are you?”
MAHER: Oh, I see.
BOYLE: You know, and so on. And it was, it was humiliating.
MAHER: Right.
So how would one explain America's foreign policy to audiences in Germany and France today?
We've got a president that was given the Nobel Peace Prize less than nine months in office having accomplished absolutely nothing, and now less than two years later, parts of the Middle East and Africa are exploding in violence.
The world today is in a more tenuous condition than it has been since the end of the Cold War, and the current White House resident seems totally clueless.
As for the previous president's résumé, he was twice elected governor of our nation's second most populated state. Prior to that point, Bush:
- Was managing general partner of the Texas Rangers for five years
- Assisted in running his father's re-election campaign in 1992
- Was a campaign advisor and media liaison for his father's first presidential campaign in 1988
- Created Arbusto Energy company which later merged with Spectrum 7 eventually becoming Harken Energy which he served on the Board of Directors
- Was a member of the Texas Air National Guard
- Graduated with a BA from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard Business School
Is going to Harvard and Yale, creating an oil company, and being twice elected governor of our nation's second most populated state a "thin résumé?"
If it is, our current president's curriculum vitae is emaciated by comparison:
- U.S. Senator 2005 through 2008
- Illinois State Senator 1997 through 2004
- Lectured at University of Chicago Law School 1991 through 2004
- Harvard Law School graduate 1991
- Community organizer 1985 through 1988
- Graduated with a BA from Columbia University in 1983
As it pertains to the highest office in the land, which résumé looks thinner to you?

And I wonder where ol Donkeyface would place Hussein Soetoro's 'resume'..................since it is so thin that it is 'transparent'??? Well, I can't really use that word, because the majority of his so-called 'resume' has been hidden, or revised, or re-calibrated.........

Let's take a look at Bush's resume: fighter pilot in Texas Air Nat'l Guard, business owner, governor of Texas, Bachelor's and Master's degree from Ivy League universities, with a decent GPA.
Now, let's take a look at Obama's resume:
And, what was in Clinton's resume? Rhodes Scholar, draft dodger, governor of Arkansas.
The last Democrat with a decent resume was Dhimmi Cahtuh (Annapolis, degree in Nuclear Engineering, service in USN, Governor of Georgia), and he was dumb as a fence post when it came to practical matters.

Obama claims to be a law professor, but was a guest lecturer. He claims to have been a state senator, when he mostly voted present. He claims to have been a US Senator, when 2/3 of his term was abandoned. He claims to be a citizen, but we have no proof. He claims to have graduated from college, yet we have no transcripts or other documentation.

There is almost no real documentation of anything involving Obama's college career...No record of his being accepted to Columbia, no transcripts, no financials of how he paid for it, and much the same can be said of his time at Harvard, except there is some documentation of his being editor of the Harvard Law Review, in the form of some articles he supposedly wrote. I've seen these online. It is interesting though, that just about no one else who was there at the same time, outside of a few people who are buddies/supporters of his, remember him from Harvard, and I find that very strange. With all the suspicion surrounding this man and his past, you would think in the interest of laying all this to rest, he would have eagerly released every bit of documentation that he has that proves where he went to school, what his grades were (since he's supposed to be so brilliant), his writings, how he paid for his schooling, etc. But, so far, nothing...And that just fuels the doubts and speculation(s) about him, with good reason, I believe.

That's the part I find to be so bizarre. I truly suspect that the reason all of his college information has been kept under wraps is because he applied as a foreigner, perhaps with a scholarship for the foreign born. So either he's lying about his citizenship, or he lied to get preferential treatment to get into college, which is fraud. Either way, he's in trouble.
We know he's fake. I am so sick of his lecturing. Blah, blah, blah. Particularly when he knows less than a five year old about economics, it makes me crazy to listen to him blather. I think we should invent an "Obama off" button for the remote, at the first tone of his voice it would automatically turn the TV off. I can't even stand to listen to him for however long it takes to find the remote.
But the lefties like Maher continue to bash Bush, go figure.

As we all know, getting accepted into an Ivy League like Columbia ain't easy...There's lots of competition, and very high standards...Did he get in as a result of affirmative action? Was it as a result of what you suggested? It must have been some back door way, because it sure doesn't look like it was as a result of his stellar character or his grades. Everything about this man is smoke and mirrors bs, and the fact that he actually managed to con the American people into voting for him still just stuns me.

Let's see, GW Bush was a successful and popular governor of one of the largest most economically diverse states in the country. Obama was a part-time Senator at the state level before winning a US Senate seat, upon which he immediately started running for president. Other than this, most of his claim to fame appears to be as a professional rabble rouser. He never led anything before being elected president. His academic background is sealed tighter than a drum and his birth record is murky at best. Really, by any reasonable standards, Sarah Palin had a stronger resume than B.O. in 2008. This is all about the "D" after Obama's name...oh and probably has a little something to do with his race as well. He has apparently forgotten that President Bush had been a very successful, effective and popular two term governor (the first consecutive, two term governor in Texas history)...In addition, he had also run an oil business, and had co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team.
What had Obama done? He'd very briefly worked as a lawer, as a non-tenured, adjunct professor, as a "community organizer", and spent a few years, mostly voting present, in the Illinois state senate...How that surpasses what Bush had accomplished prior to becoming president, only Maher's unhinged liberal mind could understand. MAKING OF A CANDIDATE - Obama knows his way around a ballot - chicagotribune.com. April 3, 2007,
And they [Obama] kept challenging petitions until every one of Obama's four Democratic primary rivals was forced off the ballot.
Fresh from his work as a civil rights lawyer and head of a voter registration project that expanded access to the ballot box,
But in that initial bid for political office, Obama quickly mastered the bare-knuckle arts of Chicago electoral politics. His overwhelming legal onslaught signaled his impatience to gain office, even if that meant elbowing aside an elder stateswoman like Palmer.
A close examination of Obama's first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career: The man now running for president on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it.
Imagine, if Bush would have had Obama's experience going into the fall 2000 election against Al Gore, he could have simply run unopposed -- by getting Gore kicked off the ballot first!
Then, we wouldn't have had to go through all of the trauma of watching Al Gore trying to steal the election away from the man who won, President George W Bush.

The many posts prior to mine have said it well. If anyone wants to compare resumes then they had better not be an Obama supporter. Liberals may blow off the importance of business experience but should not be so quick. Running the country has many similarities to running a business. The "experience" factor also should be looked at those selected under the president. Bush had some experienced heavy weights under him when it came to their management history. Obama has many "activists" under him that do not have business or managerial experience. That is a big mistake.
Having degrees and experience with social causes does not prepare someone for fiscal planning and decisions, national security, or managing crisis. Americans want people in power who can make tough decisions based on their priciples and not change direction based on polls. I'll take a former business executive any day for president or cabinet position.

Anytime the Democrats fail to produce proof, it's usually because there isn't any. In Obama's case, I believe he used a foreign passport to help him either get in or get funding from Occidental. Either he's avoiding it because his citizenship was from Indonesia, or he just said that to take advantage of some financing. As far as grade transcripts go, they pulled the same thing with BUsh and then, once the transcripts came out and Gore didn't look so good, that all stopped.
Hopefully, in 2012, we'll have a candidate willing to ask those questions and a press willing to look for the answers..........................Nah, but there's still Fox News.

Barack Obama was NOT a "law professor" at the University of Chicago.
Obama was a sometimes "lecturer" or some sort at the University of Chicago. I think he "taught" a "course" on something like the inherent racism of the United States and "typical white people".
Obama was not only NOT a "professor". Obama NEVER published a damn thing about any legal issue in any scholarly publication (e.g., a law review).

Obama was, briefly, a non-tenured, adjunct "professor" which is roughly similar to a guest lecturer. I have actually seen him referred to as both, so who knows what the truth is...It seems to change based on who is writing the article or who is doing the talking. He did, supposedly, write something for the Harvard Law Review, but this appears to be the only thing he did write for that publication (or just about any other one). Impressive, huh? Not.

The only surprise here is that Obama actually has a resume with writing on it. He's spent his entire adult life as a theoritician, a pseudo-academic and a quasi-intellectual who is nothing more than an affirmative action. He has never done anything, never had a real job, never had to prove that he had a real intellect, or earn a living.
Bill Maher went off the rails after being booted from ABC. He and Obama's combined IQ is negative based on Obama's "resume" and every idiot thing he has said for the last 10 years.

I'm sick and tired of the New Atheists, who, every time there's an article about muslim violence, answer it with posts condeming Christianity.
And Yes, I'm especially sick and tired of the muslim promoter in the White House.

Hey Bill Maher, compared to Obama, Bush only had to list 3 items on his resume (eliminating education history) to be more qualified and that is the simple story. Its obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about, you are just another sand lot, butt licking Liberal trying to impress someone...sorry, you have failed also.

1975 or 1976 — ice cream scooper, Baskin-Robbins — Honolulu — Obama claims to have lost his taste for ice cream during this, his first job, the duration of which is not publicly known.
Date unknown — deli counter clerk, business name unknown — Honolulu — Obama had a summer job at a deli counter in Hawaii, making sandwiches, his spokesman said during the presidential campaign.
1980 — gift shop sales clerk, business name unknown — Honolulu — Obama worked at a gift shop in Hawaii selling island souvenirs the summer after his freshman year at Occidental College in California.
Sometime between 1981-1983 — construction worker, business name unknown — New York — Obama cleared a construction site for a summer on Manhattan's Upper West Side while attending Columbia University

The Obama phenomenon is that the MSM has never even been curious about the claims of Obama and his supporters. I think it's because that once they latched on to him, they didn't want to discover information that might call their judgement into question.
However, over the past year, we have seen a few signs of buyer's remorse in the MSM.

I'd like to have seen that petulant fag show up on any one of the construction sites I've been on. Construction workers are pretty straightforward and they all have to produce something in order to keep their jobs and get paid (well, I've never been in a union, so I don't know how those jobsites go - but I know that they have a job to do also.) Plus, I don't think too many blue collar veterans have much patience of bulls**t, especially if it were coming from a wet-behind-the-ears rookie greenhorn who felt like he was ABOVE having to work...............
As for the other supposed 'jobs'..............rumor has it that Boy Barry was some kind of a 'scooper', although I'm not sure if it was in an ice cream parlor..............

. . . and it never will. The Left and the MSM have so successfully created the negative image of Bush, that merely uttering his name is enough to get their point across.
And this is Maher's schtick. In front of his low-wattage audience, he routinely throws out references to Bush for the reflexive cheers and applause, not unlike a preacher stirring the congregation with call-and-response. The audience knows its role and gleefully obliges.

The left does this to
Submitted by Smartypants on Sun, 03/06/2011 - 3:54pm.
The left does this to Republicans all the time; they create empty accusations and then repeat them endlessly until the message sticks. Most people are not paying attention, so all they remember is what they have been trained to remember, "Bush lied, people died" Nobody really knows what that means, because it is meaningless. It doesn't matter though.
The left lives in a land of make believe. History, facts and reason do not matter. If something doesn't fit their agenda, they just alter it as needed. How much evidence is there that tax cuts actually increase revenue to the Treasury? It happened under Kennedy, Reagan and GW Bush. Yet, liberals will still insist that a tax cut is going to "cost" money. How much evidence is there that a policy of appeasing aggression actually leads to more aggression? Yet, liberals still insist on appeasement as a standard operating procedure when dealing with any nefarious government and/or dictator.
Reality has no place in the land of liberalism.

Submitted by cwize on Sun, 03/06/2011 - 3:27pm.
This guy has the luxury of stating something completely false (The 'thinnest resume') by any measure and getting away with it because "it's his show."
Bush beat an entrenched incumbent liberal hero (Ann Richards) to become Governor of Texas. Never mind anything else he ever did - that alone dwarfs all accomplishments of our current President. The one, by the way, who has hidden his so-called "achievements" from public scrutiny.
Maybe Bush wasn't the second coming of Abraham Lincoln or Ronald Reagan, but he played the hand he was dealt and led with authority.
Our identity-shifting, name-changing, religion-hopping, dubiously eligible current Community Organizer in Chief has done nothing but weaken America's influence abroad, cause internal turmoil, increase our dependence on foreign oil (and finance) -- the list goes on. It would be refreshing, but highly unlikely, if Bill Maher would call out this empty suit for being the puppet of Leftist masters that he is.
When the objective histories
Submitted by BD on Sun, 03/06/2011 - 3:48pm.
When the objective histories are written on these two presidents in fifty years time the conclusions will be obvious.
Bush was a president who entered politics late based on family whims and then took big swings at challenges ranging from Islamic terrorism to reform of social security. Sadly he was a president who could not say no to foolish policies regarding the economy, but his policies were largely self correcting.
Obama will be shown to have been a quota king (Dearth of evidence he ever accomplished ANYTHING while in college or as a COmmunity agitator) who was ill prepared for the challenges he undertook as president. Nor did he have any desire to defend what he saw as a racist/classist country sadly dependant on capitalism. HIs socialist attempts will require 15 years to recover from and require hard work. But socialism in the end will be rendered low by his efforts. Oh, and he threw a bunch of parties....
For all the talk of whether
Submitted by Smartypants on Sun, 03/06/2011 - 4:06pm.
For all the talk of whether GW Bush was qualified to be president, it is now a specious argument. GW Bush was president for eight years. He governed during some of the most tumultuous times in modern history, with unprecedented events that would have challenged the most skilled leaders. Overall, I believe history will show GW Bush to have handled those challenges pretty decently. After 9/11, the entire world was watching Bush to see how he would respond to the vicious attacks. His response was indeed measured and well reasoned. In terms of Iraq, for all of the bellyaching about that war from the left and right, to this day it remains a very reasonable action under the circumstances. The events on 9/11 were devastating and it was Bush's job to make sure nothing like that ever happened again on our soil. Given this, and the available Intel, he made a reasoned decision that it was time for Saddam Hussein to go. This was something that members of both parties acknowledged had to be done eventually; however, Bush was the only occupant of the Oval Office on 9/11; and it was the events of that day that triggered the need for action in Iraq. Let's also not forget it was the Bush tax cuts that helped keep the economy humming for years after the 9/11 attacks, which so many people thought would bring economic ruin. In fact, I'll still take the "Bush economy" of 2002-2007 over anything we've got going now.
Sure, Bush was soft on immigration and some other things, but no president is perfect. In the end, he was the right man for the job at the proper time. Had Al Gore been president on 9/11 we may have a bigger mess on our hands right now. That's right, whenever anyone questions the Bush presidency, they need to be reminded the alternatives were Gore or John Kerry. Nobody in their right mind believes those guys were or are fit for the job.

As of 2000, previous presidents's executive experience included:
Cinton: 4-term governor of Arkansas (32nd in US population)
Bush 41: Chairman of First International Bank of Houston; professor of Administrative Science at Rice University; founded Bush-Overby Oil Development; founding president of Zapata Offshore Company; chairman of the RNC; Director of the CIA; Navy officer
Reagan: 2-term governor of California (1st in US population); SAG union president; Army officer
Carter: 1-term governor of Georgia (24th in US population); owned and ran family peanut business; Navy officer
Ford: Navy officer
Nixon: Senior law partner; Navy officer
Johnson: Navy officer
Kennedy; Navy officer
Eisenhower: Career Army officer
Truman: Missouri's director for the Federal Re-Employment progra; opened and ran a haberdashery; Army officer
FDR: 1-term governor of NY (3rd in US population); Assistant Secretary of the Navy
As noted by others, Bush 43 was 2-term governor of Texas (2nd in US population), founder and chairman of Arbusto Energy/Bush Exploration, managing general partner of the Texas Rangers baseball franchise.
So, as usual, it can be factually proven that Maher does not know what he's talking about. In terms of years of executive experience, the Bushes had the thickest resumes since Eishenhower, and only W was a state governor.
