I guess I'll start this show.
Submitted by ricklail on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 11:23am.
I guess I'll start this show. I was leaning towards the Steelers until I saw a report on Big Ben at a Dallas bar buying rounds for the crowd. To me this in not being focused. I am now going with the Packers. Haven't heard anything about them partying hardy during the week.
The NFL continues to prove that it sucks. How do you pick the 2 loudest mouths on TV pre-shows game, Dieon Sanders and Shannon Sharpe, over guys like Cris Carter, Charles Haley and Tim Brown for the Hall of Fame. Cris,Charles and Tim went about their business and didn't try to draw attention to themselves.
Just when in the hell are they going to put Ray Guy in the HOF? He has been named to a lot of other Halls of Fame. Why not not the big one? Frist and only punter EVER drafted in the first round. Played in 207 consecutive games. I could go on and on. The man deserve to be there.
If you think the weather in Dallas is terrible just wait until 2014 when it is played at Giants Satduim. Global warming is to blame for the unusal snow in Dallas. It will be the same story in NJ in 2014.
I know many of you don't follow college b-ball but it's DOOK-Carolina Wednesday night in that rat hole, Cameron Indoor Stadium. St. Johns exposed DOOK's weaknesses last week. I hope the Heels can exploit them.

As a diehard Brown's fan, I am for the Packers all the way. Anybody but the Steeler's is my motto, though it is tough to decide when it's the Steeler's vs the Ravens.
That said, the idiot lunkhead Roethlisberger having a couple drinks on Tuesday (heard on Rush Limbaugh on Friday??) doesn't phase me in the least. Ther are plenty of stories of some of the greats in history doing things before the big game that makes this episode look tame. One story new to me recently was Lawrence Taylor sending prostitutes to opposing team members the night before the game to wear them out and mess with their mindset. Doubt all the players refused the offers.
Plenty of time for Ben to get his game on without altering his mental or physical status. I would, however, recommend he refrain from barroom bathroom sex before the big game.
The Cluelessness of Modern Muslims
Submitted by Hunter12 on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 11:25am.
I have to laugh about this so I don't cry. Here's a comment made by a Muslim concerning a speech given by the British PM Cameron where he called for an end of the intolerance Islam has for other cultures. Here's the muslim response:
Mohammed Shafiq, of the Ramadhan Foundation - a British Muslim youth group - said in a statement following the speech that Cameron has risked angering Muslims by suggesting there was widespread intolerance within the religion.

But don't you just love the completely illogical response, don't accuse us of intolerance or we might get angry? What is it about this religion that it can't take a little illumination? Most religions flourish from exposure. This one is full of constraints, recent constraints from radicals. Don't depict our prophet. Note to Mulims: he's dead. It's not like someone will look at the picture and suddenly report that Muhammed was the guy who stole their ancestor's goat.

But I'm cheering for the Pack today. With Favre retiring for the 3rd time (or is it the 4th?), this is an ideal opportunity for GB to close the Book of Favre. Consider the season -- GB has been a high powered offense since Rodgers took over -- and Pitt has played sloppy, almost losing to Buffalo (I think) when a receiver dropped the game winning TD pass in an embarrassing performance for a Super Bowl team.
Steelers are lucky to be in Dallas today.

As much as I miss Urban, he burned out. I think he's doing a yeoman's job on ESPN, and my sincere hope is that he takes Desmond the Mouth's chair on GameDay. Unlike most, I still find Lee Corso to be amusing, if totally wrong when he dons "the head". He's such a homer, it makes me laugh. Desmond, however, just annoys me, and I'd love to see him go.

Super Bowl tainted this year
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 11:36am.
I was planning on watching the Super Bowl because I like to see what new commercials come out and etc. However, due to a couple of things, I don't think I will this time. I had said before I was going to watch it with cheddar brats and chili cheese fries, but that won't happen.
As the subject line says, I feel this year the Super Bowl is tainted, even if it is in Texas. For one thing, it has become a political thing thanks to the Chairman vis a vis Janet Nappy.
http://cnsnews.com/news/article/homeland-security-secretary-inspects-sup
The b!tch has screwed up everything for everyone when it comes to safety(as in no safety for US) and now it's going to happen at this once-popular American venue by doing the "see something, say something" nonsense. Apparently there are going to be patdowns too, and I can't help but think how problematic that will be because people will be coming in bundled up because it's still freezing and more snow predicted in Dallas. So like the airports, I wonder how the gropefest will occur for this event?
I wish there was a way that the people attending the games could protest against this gang of criminals making everyone feel like criminals. Instead, we see people happily accepting it.
I can't watch this game knowing that the enemy government has tainted this all-American event just like they have tainted everything else.

Don't let them win! In this case I'm talking about both the Islamist who created the heightened security or our intrusive government. They can search us, blame us or threaten us but they can't take away our pursuit of happiness. (If this is something that makes you happy)
That's the problem
Submitted by jon_torlin on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 12:07pm.
That's the problem, the fact that this is happening means they ARE winning. You know what the response would be, "if you don't want to get searched, don't go to the game." How long before they actually make it happen at grocery stores, which is in their plans, and other places?
This is no way to live in this country. They can't take away our pursuit of happiness, you are right, but they sure can make it difficult. And I'm not talking about a Superbowl Game either.
It never should have come to this.

However, that is the choice of those getting searched and you, you personally, have 364 days and 19.5 hours to express your views about the events surrounding the game. All I mean is if pursuing happiness means watching the game for you then do so and take the opportunity of the rest of the year to help make sure it doesn't happen again.

So I have plenty of picked chicken for enchiladas. With red sauce (h/t a certain bomber pilot of our aquaintance), a salsa verde, and a new sweet onion sauce, courtesy of yours truly (I love really carmelized onions).
I have 3 ripe avacados, just ready for smashing, and lots of lime and cilantro. I may even take a stab at making my own tortilla chips, as I have a bag and a half of MaSeCa, and the tortilla maker is already on the counter (it does wondrous things to grated potatoes in preparation of hash browns, the perfect water extraction device). Alton Brown says $4 worth of bagged chips can be made for about 15 cents. So I may give it a whirl.
Oh yeah, Go Pitt! M. Pouncey is going to be out due to his high ankle sprain (break, whatever, they don't seem to know)....but after a pro-bowl rookie season, I want my GATOR brethren to win another ring.

Pack 31, Stillers 14
Submitted by bkeyser on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 12:30pm.
Pack 31, Stillers 14. Yeah, I know that seems a bit strange given that everyone expects a tight game; and surely it could turn out to be one. But rarely does the Super Bowl go down to the wire; its usually pretty much determined by halftime. And as a Ravens fan, there's probably a lot of wishful thinking in that prediction.
As for the analysis- Pittsburgh is a great football team. Well coached, smart and athletic players, and they ALWAYS get the calls. Some will argue that they've been targeted by league officials for late hits and such, but they play hard and that often leads to a flagrant foul or two. My Ravens have been guilty of it as well. And ten grand here, 75 grand there really don't put much of a dent in the player's bank account. (For the record, I don't like the calls, don't like the silly new rules, or the fines; if the fouls are so agregious that they need to take a player's money, then make sure they're actually flagged during the game, and eject them after multiple occurances.) But back to Pittsburgh. They are suspect on the back end of the defense. Troy has been hurt, though with the extra week, he might be close to 100% for this game. On the flip side though, he might be prone to taking additional chances since there's no tomorrow, and he's guessed many more wrong than right this year. Still dynamic, but not nearly as much as in previous years. Their talented young center was placed on IR- so their makeshift O-line is even more patchwork today.
Green Bay has had a suspect run game all year, but you can't run on Pittsburgh with a great running game. This is to the Pack's advantage as they've had to develop their passing game from week one. If their O-line holds up and Rogers has time to throw, Pittsburgh goes into a hole early. That puts it on Ben. Clay Matthews will eat up Pittsburgh's poor O-line, and Ben will make mistakes -he's not Superman. I think the Pack gets to Ben early and often and has in the neighborhood of 6 sacks by game's end. Pittsburgh won't gain 50 yards on the ground.
I hate to be in agreement with Obama on this one but I've got to root for the Pack. (Barry doesn't want Ben in the White House in case his daughters might be there...)
So, it's Green Bay up 17-7 at the half, and they put it away in the third with Ben throwing a TD in garbage time, late in the 4th. Never really close. There, now you can focus on the commercials. ;-)
Or, maybe Pittsburgh wins a close one; you can never tell with these things...

We have seen too many so-called democratic uprisings go south. It happened in Russia, Cuba and Iran, and unless extraordinary measures are employed, it is going to happen in Egypt, too.

Here's my original Blog about that particular Mercedes....with links and everything about its history.
One of 5 in 1952....I don't know how many survived....that raced that year. The owner (the young, tall, good looking guy) was recreating the race, but he had the car on a trailer, the roads are now good, I can't imagine what they must have been like then. If you read the links, there were some pretty spectacular wrecks.
As I said in my original blog post, prolly a mill and a half.
But I almost fell off my chair when I saw that commercial, I freeze framed the commercial, then searched my blog....and the license number matched.
WHERE'S MY SILVER MERCEDES?

What a crappy halftime show. Here we are deep in the heart of Texas and that's the best they can do? Why not a little Bob Wills retrospective. Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel could do it. My gosh this is Texas. A little San Antonio Rose or Faded Love would be great. Or for that fact done a little Buddy Holly. He was a Texan too. Superbowl problems
Submitted by jon_torlin on Mon, 02/07/2011 - 12:35am.
Did you hear about how some 400 people weren't allowed to take their seats because the Arlington Fire Dept. declared them unsafe? Some of those tickets cost about $800 or more. That's not scalpers' price, that's TICKET price. Supposedly they are going to get refunds for 3 times the value. Some tried to put them in rooms with screens. Epic fail.
There's one story about a guy who brought his 80 year old dad out from out of the state for this event. Couldn't get those seats. He was quite and rightly so upset.
Watch for DuhOne and his dog Janet declare that the patdowns were a huge success at the game. I would expect them to say "since it was a success, we're going to do them everywhere!" The real truth is nothing happened IN SPITE of those patdowns. Just like the airports and the T&A scanners and the gropefests, which also caused delays in the lines of people trying to get their seats. Guess what, Janet, Texas is working on getting your arse-wipers(you do grab the asses and etc anyway) OUT of Texas. We don't want you and your kind around. (What kind is that? The communist/socialist types operating under a tyrant dictator)
I only watched bits and pieces of the game because there was a problem with the cable and some of the channels were frozen....literally frozen. I was watching the Ghost Hunter reruns and some other stuff. Half time show? RAW SUCKAGE!
Just my thoughts on it.
