Olbermann: O'Reilly's 'A Danger to the Safety of Our Elected Leaders'

For the second night in a row, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann attacked Bill O'Reilly this time claiming the Fox News host is a danger to the safety of our elected leaders.

This followed Monday's classless call for the "O'Reilly Factor" host to stop "stroking" himself in front of the public.

On Tuesday, the "Countdown" host during his "Worst Person in the World" segment played a cherry-picked snippet of O'Reilly speaking to an audience in Westbury, New York, as part of his "Bold and Fresh" tour with Fox's Glenn Beck.

O'Reilly joked to the crowd about how if he was an adviser to President Obama, he would recommend House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) be kidnapped so that something could be accomplished on Capitol Hill.

This led Olbermann to hysterically conclude, "Bill O`Reilly is, at heart, a danger to the safety of elected leaders in this country" (video embedded below the fold with transcript):

KEITH OLBERMANN, HOST: But our winner, Bill-O, summoning his inner Bill-O. This is from a public appearance on Long Island, in which O`Reilly fantasizes about being the main adviser to President Obama and to make it easier for Republicans to achieve, quote, detente with Democrats, calling in the CIA director Mr. Panetta giving him a secret job to do.

BILL O`REILLY, FOX NEWS ANCHOR: You`ve got to kidnap Pelosi and Reid. Don`t hurt them. Don`t hurt them, OK? But take them to an undisclosed location. No water-boarding. Well, maybe with Nancy. So that`s what I would do, I`d kidnap Reid and Pelosi.

OLBERMANN: I know, every time I tell you about O`Reilly, somebody says, oh, it`s just posturing, you`re trying to get ratings, you`re obsessed with O`Reilly, you`re a less version of him. Then you hear a tape like that, from an unguarded moment, in an environment in which he thinks he`s among friends, and starts with the violence fantasies.
Just like the Tiller the Killer drum beat, Bill O`Reilly is, at heart, a danger to the safety of elected leaders in this country. Ha ha ha, how funny it is to joke about kidnapping the Speaker of the House and water- boarding her. He says it because he wants somebody to do it. When I call him on it, I don`t care if fewer people watch this show as a result. This man is dangerous year in, year out. He was dangerous to George Tiller. He is dangerous to Nancy Pelosi. And if you want to live in a country where people like Bill O`Reilly can encourage hatred and violence, just pretend this is a phony showbiz feud. It isn`t.

It does lead to an interesting question: at what point does such commentary on public airwave is no longer covered under the 1st amendment? There must be a point where a member of the press (and in Olbermann's case I use that term extremely loosely) crosses the line and must be held accountable legally. I know of precendents in regards to print media, but are there any precedents for national/international cable media outlets like MSNBC?

Call me a heretic, but I think NB should no longer dignify MSNBC and Olbermann with any coverage and analysis. These clowns serve red meat to a small base of rabid partisans. Because their bias is open and notorious, NB should generally ignore MSNBC.

Much more NB-worthy is reporting that still has a mainstream veneer like today's AP story -- carried for several hours as a Yahoo headline -- about Florida swindler Scott Rothstein. The AP notes: "It was a swift fall for Rothstein, who in the months before had hosted fundraisers or other events for state and national politicians including Florida GOP Gov. Charlie Crist and 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin." Then in the last paragraph, we learn that "the Florida Democratic Party returned $200,000 in contributions from Rothstein and his law firm, with the state GOP returning some $150,000." Now THAT's what I call mainstream media bias!

MSNBC does not deserve the quality of the time, effort, and attention that NB spends on it and its inmates. Nor is it appropriate to give it place among the other posting of other liberals and their peccadilloes. At some point bias mutates into a pathology. At that point it is appropriate that it is quarantined.

How about dedicating a special zone at the bottom of the two narrow columns on the right side of this web site where a few of the most recent symptoms of BDS / PDS / barking-mad liberal lunacy are merely documented for the record, but with minimum expenditure of effort and comment.

It is my belief that what we are seeing here is a stepping up of the attacks on FOX and those who have sent a message to Washington. Last week, the left acknowledged that the vote for Brown was a strong message to the President and the Dems to shape up or we'll vote you out. This week that is all forgotten. They have not only continued their track of demonizing those on the right, and FOX, they are doubling thier efforts. It is obvious to me that they still don't get it. They think they can continue their attempts at indimidation and character assassintion as if there have been no consequences from doing that in the past. They ARE the definition of insanity; Doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting different results. They will be their own undoing. It's a joy to see.

Maybe Conan did it too, but I recall this being done by Craig Kilborn. I do remember Alec Baldwin's rant against Henry Hyde. While Baldwin was simply playing to to audience, he was by far more vicious and less lighthearted, but somehow didn't attract the attention of law enforcement.

I was at that event in Westbury. I don't know how people were able to sneak audio recorders or cameras in. There was a security tent were we had to be screened and no recording devices or cameras were allowed. I don't even know why O'Reilly or Beck haters would spend money on a ticket if they don't even like either guy. I'd theorize that a far-left concern spotted them the money, but that probably wasn't the case.

The audio was posted on Media Matters, which was were Keith "Rip 'n Read" Olbermann got it from.

Assuming NBC is interested in making profits, I simply cannot understand why they continue to allow this fool to remain on both their pre-game NFL Sunday Night Football and MSLSD, especially the former where the viewers are supposedly normal. I refuse to watch those pre-game shows because of his presence. His ratings are lower than whale poop and his rants antagonize non-delusional people. Is he sleeping with some NBC VP ("male" no doubt)? Does NBC need to have some tax losses for accounting reasons? It's absolutely scary that a fool like him was actually granted an audience with The Anointed One and managed to lower my opinion of Obama, a feat I thought near impossible. Have I been transported to some bizarro world version of Earth and simply don't realize it?

Keith Olbermann once said that he wanted Senator Joe Lieberman to be killed. By Keith's own defition, this means that Keith is dangerous to Senator Lieberman. Keith Olbermann also said that he wanted to stab Bill O'Reilly. So this would also mean, by Keith's own defition, that Keith is dangerous to Bill. Both of these incidents would also qualify, by Keith's own defition, as "violence fantasies".
