The Plan
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 10:29 ET by slickwillie2001At The Corner yesterday, Ponnuru put together a nice paragraph describing the 'President's' plan:
"In the primaries, Obama distinguished himself from Clinton on health care by opposing an individual mandate. In the general election, he distinguished himself from McCain by opposing taxes on health benefits. So now he is trying to pass bills with both an individual mandate and taxes on health benefits — and his supporters are saying that Congress should go along because he won the election."

How much more of this outrage are you going to accept before you say STOP? When do we all get up and say stop? I have a godawful feeling that November 2, 2010 will be too late.
What's next for US to do? They no longer listen to us. The dems get away with murder, lying, and cheating...yet the GOP says or does nothing.
My prediction...this won't be settled at a ballot box. They have to be defeated in the streets. It's the only way. If we get up at once, and tell them to stop, right in their face...they will stop. You don't need to be armed. They're cowards.
Awake the sleeping giant...and that giant is WE THE PEOPLE!

Sat, 11/21/2009 - 22:52 ET by KJ_sezAn estimated 3% of the population of the 13 colonies took an active role during the American Revolution; 3% of the current U.S. population would be roughly 9 million. I'm certain there were far more than 9 million in attendance at the numerous TEA party events around the country in the last six months.
They (we) assembled peacefully, unarmed, and stood up to say NO! to that den of thieves, liars, whores, and spineless wonders that is Congress.
They ignored us. And taunted us, belittled us, told us we are of no consequence. They called us ignorant, provincial, "astro turf", racists, hatemongers, uncivil, and any number of denigrations have been heaped on us by these ignorant, arrogant fools and their accomplices.
Then they have the audacity to slap all of us across the face with their Imperious Edict that will steal from us what little remains of our rights, freedom, and property.
The peaceful, lawful options have been tried, and have been found lacking. Short of organizing a nation-wide general strike or occupation of every (and I mean every) congressthing's local and DC offices on the same day - and good luck organizing anything on that scale - there are precious few options left to the people for redress of grievances.
I know what I'm prepared to do to preserve freedom - what are you prepared to do?
HarryCare must die, and it MUST DIE TODAY!
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 10:57 ET by R D HelmI know most of us are going to be watching football today, and I am no exception here, but please keep sending those emails and placing those calls. We have to keep the pressure up, even though most of our congress-critters are apparently deaf as a post.
If HarryCare is voted out onto the Senate floor tonight, I have a sick feeling it will ultimately pass in some form.
Once it is folded into PelosiCare, it will then become CommieCare, and America as we know it will be finished fer good.
Understand, there will be no "fixing" this in 2013.

Sat, 11/21/2009 - 11:54 ET by StarAZThis concept of oh, well, just vote for something and we can ix it is POISON, the worst sort of lie...Fixing things is hard or impossible once they gain momentum--and this nonsense will be zipped off the board until 2013, by which time the reg writers will have done their worst. Is your sub to the Federal Register up to date? Are you going to be commenting on every stupid or insidious regulation they crank out--like how the IRS decides you get a subsidy, or who will decide which studies determine which tests or treatments will be reimbursable or even which "policies" are acceptable--or even what "affordable" is. Maybe they think everyone surely has $500 a mo for this... But I do go on. We are so effed.

Unfortunately with Landrieu
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 11:32 ET by MassConservativeUnfortunately with Landrieu leaning yes after the $100 million payoff from her John (I mean Harry) the only question that remains is Lincoln tired of being a Senator because the polls show that a yes vote pretty much ends her political career.

RINOs' Vote For Sale
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 14:55 ET by celatorMC...I suspect her "people" are talking with Reid's "people" about how much cash it would take to buy her vote.
That's the thing that stands out with the RINO's (Snowe, Collins, McCain, etc, we know the list) and the "moderates": they are all for sale to the highest bidder. They pretend to be "thoughtful" and "considering all options", but they are political streetwalkers. Repulsive people and a disgrace to the nation.
They may as well hang a sign around their necks that reads: "Sign Up Here To Buy My Vote"

Sat, 11/21/2009 - 15:24 ET by celatorJon, yep, just now heard that on the radio.
Here's a story that illustrates the miracle of our current healthcare delivery system--the one Obama, Pelosi and Reid are trying with all their might to destroy.
This morning I visited a friend in the hospital. He's a year older than me, 69. 48 hours ago, he went to his doctor's office to have his pacemaker checked out--he thought it was acting up. His doc gave him an EKG, didn't like what he saw, did some other tests and told my friend, basically, "I'm scheduling you for surgery right now."
Turns out, my friend had to have two stints put in. That was done yesterday. Today, he's sitting up in bed, feels pretty good and will go home soon. 48 hours after he walked into his doctor's office.
This is exactly what is NOT going to happen with the Obama/Pelosi/Reid healthcare bill.
No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

It's not the gender that is the problem
Sun, 11/22/2009 - 17:51 ET by ChristianRebelIt's the idea's in the individual's head. The idea of the nanny state, health care, gun control, PC, current education, etc. and the individual people behind them male or female are the problem.
By the way I, a female, once gave a speech in school about why gun control is an absurd idea and got flak from a boy in the class as well as the female teacher. And I've never been one for PC nonsense. Although I will agree that FEMMINISM is a bit of a problem but that's a different rant altogether.
Oh and by the way it's just hard to discern sarcasm in texted. Can't catch voice tone and body language.

When Reid and Pelosi are
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 12:36 ET by SlyrrWhen Reid and Pelosi are using blackmail, bribery and graft to bully or buy the votes they need, then what hope is there for the people besides rebellion against this law once they pass it against our will?
Their use of dirty tricks to buy votes may be 'business as usual' in politics, but this is no game - this is no backdoor deal for a senator to get a library named after him, or get a few million in kickbacks from a business in his district.
This is an open power grab against the will of the people, and against freedom and liberty. Over 1/6 of the entire US economy is at stake - literally trillions of dollars - and also government mandates against our freedom and liberty on a scale unseen at any point in the country's entire history. And also taxes which dwarf what ol' King George did to tip the colonists into armed revolution.
This is unlike anything this country has ever seen before. And liberal senators don't even see it.
A government seizure of health care has been a liberal wet dream for decades. And now they think it's finally in their clutches. To illustrate how bad they want it, it could be compared to a teenager who's been waiting to get his first porno magazine. Now he's got it - right there in his hands, and the only thing that's preventing him from running to the bathroom with it is this vote in Congress. So naturally, he'd say or do anything to clear the path.
Want 100 million for your vote? Want slush funds? Abortions? Anything you want - just get out the way and let me take that porno mag into the bathroom!
It's hard to be optimistic in the face of this level of corruption, bribery and cronyism. They're not even really trying to hide it anymore, and they don't even seem to care about the outrage of the people.
I've been calling my reps every week to re-emphasize my outrage and demands that they stop this, but what can they do against a machine of corruption that has all the votes and is using OUR taxpayer dollars as slush fund money to buy what they can't get legally?
don't care

Re D.C.
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 14:50 ET by slickwillie2001Yep, Princess Nan knows that she will likely lose a few dozen of her courtiers in 2010, and she will lose them whether this passes or not. The economy, unemployment and a dozen other of the Bamster's screwups will be enough. She might lose the house; I say 50/50. The Senate is safe.
They are counting on the fact that if and when it passes, nothing drastic happens until 2013. That way, in 2010 they can say -"see now, that wasn't so bad, was it?" -to voters. People forget, the frog gets cooked, and new issues come up. By the election of 2010, it might be the Bamster's brownshirt/basij Civilian Corps that is the hot issue, or amnesty.
Anyway, those House and Senate members that go down in flames because of their healthcare votes can get cushy jobs running some of the 112 committees that will run government healthcare.

Sat, 11/21/2009 - 20:58 ET by GregEWell, he got holdouts to agree to the debate, because those holdouts, though they may not like parts of the bill, DO want most of the bill, so they simply think they can get what they want added or removed in the floor debate. If they don't and nothing changes, they say they'll vote against it in the final full Senate floor vote. I think they're not so sure themselves. You can be sure that their messiah will be making a trip to Capitol Hill again, just as he did the day of the full House vote, and lay down some Chicago-style strongarm (or maybe its leg-break) tactics to get them to vote yes. I'm sure the bribe money is all on the table, because in a bill that's nearly $1 trillion, what's the big deal to them if they give one of the holdouts some massive amount of money for something in their state? What's a couple billion dollars in the grand scheme to these Unconstituional idiots?

Sat, 11/21/2009 - 21:17 ET by GregENo, you're right, this cannot continue forever. If 2010 rolls around and Democrats don't get their collective arses handed to them, it will send them one of the strongest messages in our history, and that message will be that the majority of America doesn't care what those idiots do. And if that happens, what they have been doing will be paltry once they get a voter confirmation that we, the voters, will do nothing. I pray that it doesn't play out like that, but if 2010 is not a huge swing against them, my fear is that it will.
2010 is much larger than most people think, because to those politicians, confirmation of their deeds, will only have them ramping things up like never before.

Sun, 11/22/2009 - 00:08 ET by balboaThat part does. But what institutions? Catholic ones, or all institutions?
And, "George and other signers backed off from specifically defining what civil disobedience may entail. Wuerl's office played down the civil disobedience wording, saying he wasn't urging Catholics to "do anything specific," his spokeswoman Susan Gibbs told The Washington Post. "That wasn't something we had talked about.""
Sounds like they're all for civil disobedience, unless someone's actually thinking of doing it.

Sun, 11/22/2009 - 02:59 ET by JerDon't bother with the slippery slope. The plain language of the manifesto is so overbroad and overreaching that any widespread observance and application of its provisions would most likely engender a backlash of sympathy and support for the very activities it seeks to proscribe.
If the signatories and adherents are prepared to accept the legal and predictable yet unintended social consequences of their conduct, they are free to proceed.

Scenario: a homosexual
Sun, 11/22/2009 - 00:28 ET by KJ_sezScenario: a homosexual couple in Massachussets want to be married in a Catholic ceremony at a particular parish. The priest denies their request; the couple sues and wins, in accordance with state law. The priest is ordered by the court to perform the ceremony.
If the priest complies with the court order, he violates his avowed personal beliefs and faces removal from his position and excommunication by the church (not to mention the consequences to his soul for violating God's law when he knew better).
If he does not comply, he can be fined, imprisoned for contempt of court, or both, i.e., the government uses force or the threat of force to make him comply.
So, Bal, what should the priest do in this very plausible scenario?

A book
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 22:48 ET by GregEA book recommendation.
I'm now reading "New Deal or Raw Deal" by Burton Folsom, and I would HIGHLY recommend it as it explains much of the disaster what was FDR. FDR is considered one of the "greatest" presidents because of WWII. If not for WWII covering his disastrous ways and ideas, he could be one of the worst. He certainly, without a doubt, was one of the most desirous of a dictatorial way of governing, and didn't give a rats arse about the Constitution. We all know that many of his programs continue today, but aside from those tangibles, he changed the way Americans viewed their independence, freedom, and individuality. He began the handing out of money, from the federal govt in the form of "relief," (formerly was a state/local/charity function) and politicized it HEAVILY, most of which lives today, to the detriment of our nation.

Let me throw in one
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 23:26 ET by GregEI did the library for this one, after all, I'm paying for that copy already. ;-)
Let me throw in one example, because, well, I just gotta!
Soon after taking office, the dictatorship begins. National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) of 1933, later shortened to NRA. (symbol was the Blue Eagle ... http://www.gooznersolar.com/20071016decathlon/nra_eagle_we_do_our_part.j...). He brings the big players of industry to Washington to set prices. Example.....Goodyear, Firestone, Goodrich, decide on tire prices and that's what the prices are. If you signed on to it (must have been other benefits that were hard to refuse....Henry Ford refused), had a local or regional mom/pop shop and did great where you lived and sold at a lower price...........too bad, you had to sell at a higher price as decided by that group, so people now would buy from nationally known companies instead since it was a better advertised product. Same prices. Crap like that. Oh, business owners who didn't comply, went to jail. Yep, jail.
Supreme Court got a case two years into this disastrous Act, a man selling live chickens........one of the NRA prosecutors told the SCOTUS that this man had the audacity give people their choice of chicken, when he should have been making them reach into the coop and take the first one they put their hands on. Supreme Court laughed at the nonsense................and in the end, by a NINE to ZERO vote, ruled the National Recovery Act unConstitutional, in 1935. How many jobs were lost and businesses closed in those 2 years it was "law?"
There's a taste for ya! :-)
Wow...sounds very familiar
Sat, 11/21/2009 - 23:35 ET by bigtimerWow...sounds very familiar today...an attempted repeat...so far, only they are extending it as well now to where we cannot undo it with OCare if this passes with one toe in the door.

Sat, 11/21/2009 - 23:55 ET by matthewdeanThe sob got elected four, count 'em, four, times.
Almost eighty years ago, now.
To this day, we have brain dead morons who are not only able to, but do, vote. (Witness the current pos in office)
Who are these voters, you ask?
Why, they are mostly the CPWSUGHs'.
What, pray tell, does that mean?
Couch Potatoes Who Suck Up Government Handouts.
Where are they?
Everywhere, apparently.
When do they show up?
Every time the Nanny State provides something the Couchers do not have to pay for.
How is this possible?

Sun, 11/22/2009 - 00:13 ET by GregEAnd they're looking to arrange for some more.
Millions of people who never voted in their lives, came out in 2008 and really don't give a rats arse about voting. The were "just there." Now they're registered and can vote if someone drags them out. Registration is no longer their inconvenient hurdle. Voting is a "right," but the Constitution stops there, so most people do also. People have that right, but take no responsibility to be informed. They know nothing, they just vote because they're told to. Very sad state of affairs, for a nation that is supposed to be the greatest on earth. We are, still.........but the gap between us and others is closing slowly. It's been closing for decades, due to other nations moving forward, but very much because of the big government ways that our government does to take us down a notch to help close the gap.
Yep---
Sun, 11/22/2009 - 00:54 ET by matthewdeanIt astounds me that more is not made of the fact that this Health Care Reform/Health Insurance Reform fiasco is really nothing more than additional Welfare.
People with means, taxpayers, shall provide the money required to provide for (more) medical coverage for people who find themselves without same(for whatever reason).
I live in the biggest County, square mile wise, in the U.S. (So. Cal.) This County pays out more Welfare, in total dollar amount, and at a higher rate, than 11 states do.
Indigents and ne'er-do-wells flock here, especially just before cold weather sets in. County says, "Whoa, we can't afford this. If you desire Welfare assistance, you must establish and meet a six month residency requirement."
An unelected Federal judge says, "Whoa yourself there, County. By establishing a timeline residency requirement, you are violating these peoples' civil rights. That is unconstitutional."
Forty years ago, I bitched because I had to support a do-nothing family on Welfare.
Wonder how many worthless "citizens" my individual taxes take care of today.

I was reading an article on Politico, and a poster had written
Sun, 11/22/2009 - 02:25 ET by Rush Fanthat political commentator Ben Stein had said at one time that invading Iraq was a huge mistake, and that Saddam Hussein should have remained in power.
Since I have a lot of respect for Ben Stein, I couldn't believe he would say such a dumb statement. Sadly, a search turned up this NewsMax article where Newsmax confirmed that Ben Stein said the decision to invade Iraq was a huge mistake and the U.S. was better off with Saddam Hussein in charge of the country. Stein also said the following on the Mike Gallagher Radio Show in 2006:
Boy, Ben Stein was really off the mark on the Iraq war, which has so far been fairly successful. However, Stein was able to reclaim my favorable opinion of him with the article he wrote in July in the American Spectator titled We've Figured Him Out. Here are excerpts from that piece:
