Agree shawn. The warning
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 13:13 ET by QueenMumAgree shawn. The warning involved computers issued for work-related
purposes. That means it could ostensibly be used outside working hours.
I don't see anything wrong with a government entity warning its
employees about potential security risks, especially a U.S. Attorney's office. I personally don't find
Drudge to be all-out right wing. He just makes sure that people are
aware of pertinent news that the MsM may have "overlooked". Unless and
until it can be proven that Drudge was targeted and there were no
warnings regarding other sites, I don't see this as some sort of
censorship.

Sun, 05/17/2009 - 15:03 ET by shawn228Would be okay because it did not contain any suspected virus's.. The article also specificially says it is a web ad advertisement that they had a problem with, and your also deliberately not mentioning that they found suspicious activity on ESPN. I'm addressing how a Virus spreads. The Basis of their REASON of not going to Drudge is BOGUS.
I'm training to be a Network System Admin ( MCSA, MCSE ) and I can easily check what PC went to what Website at ANY time.
It is a simple process to block websites that a company does not want employees to visit.
What I see is Politically motivated.

Sun, 05/17/2009 - 17:35 ET by shawn228Like I said to Cool Arrow, if they do not allow Drudge, but allow Newsbusters, RedState and Hot Air, I hardly call that censorship. It is your opinion it is politically motivated, that might be the case, but it can't be censorship when you can't visit a political website on the employers dime.

"Tracy Schmaler, a Justice
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 18:22 ET by QueenMum"Tracy Schmaler, a Justice Department spokeswoman, said it was because
“a malicious code was found contained in a Web ad on Drudge.”'
Ster:
This statement is vague as to whether or not the code in question was
executable. The phrase "contained in a Web ad" could apply to an add that had to
be clicked on in order to expose the PC. No?
The article also referred to "government-issued computers". These could include laptops that employees are permitted to take home with them. Evidently it's expected that employees might use these computers for purposes other than work. My husband is a retired Network Security Admin. who worked for a defense contractor. Believe me, employees are often blase' about security warnings. Even with the best monitoring, things slip through. And when you're talking government networks, the blowback can be very serious.
I think the claim of censorship in this case is overreaching. JMO

TREK 2009: IMPRESSIVE, BUT
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 20:20 ET by reelman46TREK 2009: IMPRESSIVE, BUT
As
one sci-fi fan that has seen all the original Star Treks 3x and most of
the STTNG this 2009 version had high standards to meet for “two thumbs
up” from me. Without divulging the plots, here are some comments from
viewing it today (May 17):
Overall I give it a B+ and that was thought impossible when I walked in the theater.
Some very clever and interesting plots and pulling the few main concepts together seemed very well done.
On the goofy or PC-lib-ism side…they just had to have the
“compulsory” half dozen unneeded profanities…ditto for the short
underwear scene and highly illogical interracial kisses on the
Spockster.
Minor PC-lib-ism was the baddies all looked like skinheads just out
of the tattoo parlor and young JTK was a bit over-dirtied up as was
Bones.
Considering how wacko Hollyweird has been this generation…it was a pleasant surprise…opinions will vary.
(They can still come out with a no profanity- no underwear show scene
version for ALL the age groups to enjoy for generations…hint, hint)

Sun, 05/17/2009 - 22:13 ET by stratmanYou've not seen the original Star Trek? Stop reading books and working hard and go watch some TV!
Kissing is a display of emotion, something Vulcans are abhorred to express. The rituals and emotions of mating have been established by ST canon as undergoing Pon Farr every 7 years after reaching puberty.
I also believe that puberty is usually reached at a later age for Vulcans than for humans since Spock didn't have his first Pom Farr until he was somewhere in his 30's according to the original Star Trek show.
Ahhh. But didn't Spock have

Mon, 05/18/2009 - 13:33 ET by stratmanAll Vulcans have emotions. They learned to control them or else risk killing each other.
Spock was the first Vulcan-Human hybrid, so no one knew what would happen. Spock did have an occasion of emotional display upon seeing Kirk, whom he thought was dead. Quickly he got his emotion in check and suffered a little jab by Bones or Kirk.
I am discounting the emotional displays by Spock in response to external forces beyond his control, like the time he was sent back in time or when he was sprayed with a chemical by a plant or under mind control.

It looks like the Liberals
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 11:00 ET by BDIt looks like the Liberals in Colorado have firmly decided to throw Rick "Duncan" Strandloff under a bus, but have him firmly padded and protected in the "mental patient guise".
Standloff had spent the last couple of years msquerading as a wounded combat veteran at Liberal political events and had even spoken at an Obama rally in which he railed against the Bush Administration policies in Iraq.
This is of course just my generations start to the "Stolen Valor" issue that plagued the Vietnam veterans upon their return home. For those who are unfamiliar with this particular syndrome I encourage you to get the book ...
Stolen Valor
How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of Its Heroes and Its History"
B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley
and give it a read. In it you will see what we can expect in the next forty years extending from celebrities who claim to be GWOT vets to bogus claims to claims by people such as Strandloff who use this claim for political reasons.
And we can expect to see the VA swamped in 10 years, not by actual veterans but by people using it as a hotel.
Perhaps a fund could be started to send each newspaper and TV station a copy of this book.
This ain't Hell blog covers it pretty good.

I would like to see the video of him speaking at an Obama event.
Real vets tend not to speak out so much against all teh wars. Because they know a) It is their job to fight in said wars b) their fellow vets are currently fighting in theatre of said wars c) most vets signed up voluntarily hoping to get some. Why speak out after some has been got.

Sun, 05/17/2009 - 18:30 ET by BDJust checking the AP, I find a story by Robert H. Reid, entitled "Army fights stigma of mental care" which has as a subhead "A military culture that values strength and a “can do” spirit is discouraging thousands of soldiers from seeking help to heal the emotional scars of war in Iraq and Afghanistan, despite top-level efforts to overcome the stigma, commanders and veterans say."
The key thing that makes this story interesting from a biam point of view is that it has attached as its photo illustration the photo of Sgt. John M. Russell who hot and killed a five fellow soldiers at the Camp Liberty mental health clinic. Two key points:
But the AP will run the story as groundless as it is.

Stupidus Erectus
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 11:29 ET by CrashYet another week of self-loathing from lefty (D)etards. I was reminded of this during my recent visit to the grocery store. I bought a bag of sugar which had the seal of approval - "CARBON FREE" - sure to please any liberal who needs a fix brought about by one too many tokes. Which by the way (sugar) could be subject to taxation under The Czar of the Untied States of America; in an attempt to chip away at more of our personal liberties. Hey isn't that why our countrymen fought the British Crown back in the day (I digress)? For one I wasn't aware that sugar was grown, harvested, milled and cooked without employing a single carbon atom. Where there's life there's carbon. I am made up of 99% carbon, whereas those on the left were created in the image of their maker ... poop! Now we know why hippies smell. Secondly, I'm quite certain that table sugar is made up of twelve carbon atoms.
Now, if Obama can attack Cheerios for their "false claims" on lowering cholesterol, why can't we make claims to the contrary when it comes to snake oil salesman who pitch a product stamped "organic" or "green" as defined by crazy assed environmentalists, the UN and that embarrassment at NASA. Now there's a criteria of attention deficit that lives up to the Al's "living breathing document", going from "global warming" to "climate change" in less time than Michael J. Fox can spit out sentence. Instead of attacking junk food why don't politicians (who are known for every control with the exception of self-control, spending tax payer money or balancing a budget) challenge junk science?
Of course we already know the answer ... follow the money.
Notre Dame University is closer to Stalin than Christ
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 11:23 ET by c5thenNotre Dame has shown itself to be utterly and completely compromised by Satan and it's actions this week show it to be ideologically closer to Joseph Stalin than Yahushua (Jesus Christ) the Messiah.
I am waiting for the Catholic Church's reaction to see if it too has been compromised or whether it will discipline it's offspring in an effort to teach it the errors it has made and give it an opportunity to repent.
I honestly hold out little hope that faith and integrity will prevail here and fully expect misdirection and a quick sweeping under the rug of the whole scandal.

They pretty much ignored Rahm Emanuel when he said that the US keeping Iran's nuclear threat in check might depend on Israel agreeing to a Palestinian state. Now they are pushing the line that Netanyahu might agree, even
Mr. Netanyahu's "linkage is, 'I won't do anything on Arab-Israeli peace

Re Wash Times article
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 15:24 ET by slickwillie2001Not a bad article, but even this contains some 'push' opinions from the writers. The polling figures used on page 3 are selected to show favor for the Bamster plan, when there is very little. Look at other polls on giving back Jerusalem or demolishing settlements or taking down the wall; they are all no-go.
And this nonsense quote: "Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk said Mr. Netanyahu worries that if Iran gets nuclear weapons, he 'can't afford to make any territorial concessions, because wherever the Arabs agree to, if Iran gets nuclear weapons they will all scurry under Iran's umbrella, and it will put Iran on all (of Israel's) borders.'"
That's so much horse hockey. Arabs don't need to be shielded from Israel; they know that as long as they don't attack Israel they are safe, as they have been for fifty years. Arabs are more likely to 'scurry under' an Israeli umbrella. Arabs are far more afraid of Iran than Israel. If and when Israel attacks Iran, I suspect their route will be through downtown Soddy Arabia, and the Soddy's will say 'airplanes, what airplanes?'
(It will 'put Iran on Israel's borders' via Hezbollah-Lebanon and Gaza-Hamas, but they are already there.)
It's sad when opinions from otherwise intelligent commentators on critical foreign policy issues are distorted by blind adherence to what they think are the Bamster's methods and perceived objectives.
Obama's military
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 13:05 ET by ricklailYesterday I missed the air show at Cherry Point due to off and on rain. I got to wondering. Will this be the last air show there? I mean will this massive slashing of defense spending by Chairman Mao-Boma cause the military to use their money to keep the regular planes flying?
My son-in-law was planning on re-enlisting in the Marines this fall while deployed to Afganistan. He would be getting $82,000 to do so for 4 more years based on his MOS. He was told last week that Obama was cutting recruitment and retention bonuses.
What is the military going to look like under Chairman Mao-Boma? I remember being in the guard when Jimma was president. We did not have the fuel for our carriers to train so we sit around BSing most of the time when we should have been training. We used the sub-caliber device, shot a .22 short round, for our M-16s to practice and qualify. Things were awful. That is one reason I got out. Do any of you guys who served feel like we will go back to them days?
Semper suprene nitens
Absolutely
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 14:11 ET by doug1950Do you know of a quicker way to cut down on reenlistments than to cut the incintives and bonuses. The fly-wheel effect of that move alone would be felt immediately as those who might have made the military a career begin to leave in droves. Then those who were still on their enlistments would be over burdened further, longer and more frequent deployments. The officer ranks would quickly become populated by shitbirds who could not or would not be hired elsewhere in the civilian sectors (airlines, etc.). This further exaserbates the problem because poor leaders tend to also drive out the enlisted. This happened right after Vietnam (downsizing) and during the Carter admin. It was a complete cluster ****. Huge shortages in everything, including personnel, AWOLs were rampant, drug use skyrocketed, racial tensions, etc. I dang near left myself but was able to turn chicken**** into chicken salad at the last minute and stuck it out until Ronald Reagan turned it all around.

Sun, 05/17/2009 - 18:36 ET by BDMembers of the left in congress passed a bill that was intended to lure service members from active duty to go to college using VA funding. This was done largely to hamper the DOD in its highly successful retention policies that had re-enlistments at all time highs.
Personnally, I preferred my plan which called for all Ivy league schools to ONLY allow Vets in the 2009 freshmen class and for them to pay for this plan which would include free tuition, room, and board using the university's endowments. That I could support. It would get the Ivy's back in synch with the rest of society at large.

I am so disappointed in Notre Dame...
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 16:23 ET by PrairieSkySitting here and watching this farce unfold at Notre Dame (which at times seemed more like an Obama campaign rally than a university commencement), I am so disappointed in this university, and in some in the Catholic faith who supported this, as well. As a Christian who happens to be Catholic, I am sick and tired of those on the left self-righteously demanding that those on the right and the believers in a Christian (in this Catholic) faith must be more "tolerant", and must be more "accepting" of those who don't necessarily agree with them. We must disregard our beliefs and our teachings to be more open and accepting.
And now, we even have the largest Catholic university in the country invite, welcome and honor with a degree, a president who has been the most vocal supporter of just about every piece of pro-abortion legislation that has ever come down the pike. Those that have spoken out against this have been described as being wrong, hateful, closed-minded, and intolerant. We are expected to compromise our faith and beliefs...We are the ones who are expected to "evolve" (a progressive codeword for change, that was used today by one of the speakers who is a member of the ND administration).
I have always admired Notre Dame University as a beacon of Catholic education, but if some of what I heard today from the speakers at it's commencement is indicative of the thinking that is going on there, it is well on it's way to becoming virtually unrecognizable as a Catholic university.

By the way, that blond sitting a few rows behind him on the right side of him on the screen has a permanent scowl on her face looking outward to the audience, it was constant....if that woman ever tried to smile, it would be a feat in-itself.

bt...Disgusted is right...
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 16:52 ET by PrairieSkyAlso, did you notice the man that was right behind "O" for most of the presentation, who never clapped or smiled through the whole thing? He clearly didn't seem happy at all about the proceedings...Must have been either a professor or a member of the administration who was "required" to be in attendance, but was not in support of "O" being there.
This whole thing just made me ill...There is no place that one can escape the politcally correct bulls$#t, not even at a Catholic university graduation.

Sky...yes I did notice him
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 16:59 ET by bigtimerSky...yes I did notice him also...and my sentiments are the same as your summation.
Btw, the blond I am mentioning is because she liked O alright, she was scowling at any trouble that may be coming from the protests from the audience, she kept looking in the same direction before there were any, so she must have had an idea where they were seated, or there abouts.

Sun, 05/17/2009 - 17:10 ET by PrairieSkymay have been the dean of UND's law school...She is apparently a huge Obamaton, so if that was her, you're likely right that she was looking out for any "troublemakers".

Georgia Girl...Sad it is...
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 17:59 ET by PrairieSkyYou know, the faithful and those of us on the right always seem to be expected to compromise what we believe, and to "accept" the ideas, beliefs, and practices of others that are contrary to our ideas, beliefs and practices...We are supposed to "give", and then "give" a little more, and then a little more...Where does this end? Eventually, if we "give" enough, there will be virtually nothing left of our beliefs, which is exactly what I think many non-believers and those on the left want.
Where (and when) do we draw the line in the sand, and say "No More!!"???

SNL Cowards
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 22:23 ET by stratmanWatched the season finale of Saturday Night Live last night. Since they had Will Ferrell as guest host, I knew there would be the obligatory Bush impersonation. There was - a skit about Bush blackmailing Cheney to shut up in public.
Funny thing is, I don't recall them mentioning Pelosi's name at all in the skit, a skit which was satirizing Cheney for talking out about EIT's and waterboarding, something Pelosi is obviously in the news for this past week.
In fact, SNL made ZERO mention of Pelosi! Come on!! San Fran Nan was such an ovious target of SNL satire this week. Pelosi even wrote most of the lines for the SNL writers:
For pete's sake, all they had to add was "Landshark" or some other goofy line and the skit would have been completed.
SNL writers are a bunch of spineless cowards who'd rather drudge up lame and old Bush jokes than write something fresh and provacative like the old writers used to do when the show was young.
strat... Right you are. I
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 22:27 ET by bigtimerstrat...
Right you are.
I quit watching it after Hartman died...with exceptions now and then during the political season at their opening of the show, and that was iffy after I got the computer.

I thought last night's show
Mon, 05/18/2009 - 00:24 ET by stratmanI thought last night's show was on the lame side in general. There were a couple skits that fell flat despite the comic "genius' of Ferrell. I guess Will is not that smart, just like our President.
Ba-dum-bum!
Amy Poehler rejoined the news skit and she and the other one insulted and riffed on Arizona State University for not giving The One an honorary degree. It was a direct rip-off of the screed that a news (?) or gossip (?) program did recently. Now we know that SNL is not above pulling a Carlos Mencia and stealing other people's routines.
Green Day, the musical guest, sang two songs, both anti-war. Shocking. The second song did have good musicality and a catchy hook, so I'm sure we'll hear it on the radio till our ear's bleed.

I guess he's working to create new jobs and spend more of our money needlessly, since now a new bunker will need to be built somewhere else.

Yeah, saw it yesterday here etc. but I am glad it is here again for others who may not have.
Of course this has remained silent from the msm, can you imagine if VP Cheney had ever done this and the msm got wind of it...OMG...Matthews and Olbie would die from a heart-attack before they could get it broadcast on their shows they would be so excited.
What hypocrites they all are.

Sun, 05/17/2009 - 23:33 ET by GregEYep, bunch of idiots. Cheney wouldn't have ever done it anyway. He actually understands the importance and seriousness of the threat, and isn't a big grandstander like the Gaffe Machine and the Messiah are. GregE...Joe Biden is such an idiot!
Mon, 05/18/2009 - 01:09 ET by PrairieSkySeriously...I really think he is just plain stupid.
Biden is one of those people who is so busy trying to seem glib and impressive while conversing with people, that he doesn't think through what he's saying before he says it. He doesn't seem to have the sense to think before he talks, and is completely lacking any ability to censor himself...Ol Joe's got a bad case of diarrhea of the mouth. He really is the gift that keeps on giving, except this time, his gaffe has potentially jeopardized himself and his wife, and as you pointed out, now a new bunker may need to be built.
What an idiot!
