It's cold
December 22, 2008 - 10:18 ET by 10ksnookerIn normally balmy South Florida, and that makes everyone cranky.
Sarah Palin is the future for the GOP, but she is going to need help. Now is the time for her to start building a supporting organization. Maybe even structure herself to use it to criticize the one and his crackpot looney toons. One of the best things the GOP can do is set up a loyal opposition in depth and in talent.
Cold here too
December 22, 2008 - 12:56 ET by ricklailIt is cold here in eastern NC too. But things are about to change. The low tonight is forecast to be about 20. Tomorrow a warm up begins. It is supposed to be in the lower to mid 70's on Christmas Day. I am heading west towards the hills where it going to be about 15-20 degrees cooler.

December 22, 2008 - 10:25 ET by Prester JohnBaghdad celebrates first public Christmas
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- From a distance, it looks like an apparition: a huge multi-colored hot-air balloon floating in the Baghdad sky, bearing a large poster of Jesus Christ. Below it, an Iraqi flag.
Welcome to the first-ever public Christmas celebration in Baghdad, held Saturday and sponsored by the Iraqi Interior Ministry. Once thought to be infiltrated by death squads, the Ministry now is trying to root out sectarian violence -- as well as improve its P.R. image.
The event takes place in a public park in eastern Baghdad, ringed with security checkpoints. Interior Ministry forces deployed on surrounding rooftops peer down at the scene: a Christmas tree decorated with ornaments and tinsel; a red-costumed Santa Claus waving to the crowd, an Iraqi flag draped over his shoulders; a red-and-black-uniformed military band playing stirring martial music, not Christmas carols.

It turned out Ann never received any communication from the DA until it was too late.

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them.
That is our bottom line." President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998-Truth!
This was a quote from President Clinton during a presentation at the Pentagon defending a decision to conduct military strikes against Iraq.
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear.
We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998-Truth!
Bill Clinton went to the Pentagon on this occasion to be briefed by top military officials about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction.
His remarks followed that briefing.
"Iraq is a long way from USA but, what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998-Truth!
This is a quote from Albright during an appearance at Ohio State University by Albright, who was Secretary of State for Bill Clinton.
"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998-Truth!
This was at the same Ohio State University appearance as Madeline Albright.
"We urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S.Constitution and Laws, to take necessary actions, (including, if appropriate,
air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction
programs."
Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others Oct. 9, 1998-Truth!
According to the U.S. Senate website, the text of this letter was signed by several Senators, both Democrat and Republican, including Senator John McCain and Joseph Lieberman.
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998-Truth!
The text of this statement by Nancy Pelosi is posted on her congressional website.
"Hussein has .. chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999-Truth!
This was from an appearance Albright made in Chicago.
She was addressing the embargo of Iraq that was in effect at the time and criticism that it may have prevented needed medical supplies from getting into the country. Albright said, "There has never been an embargo against food and medicine. It's just that Hussein has just not chosen to spend his money on that. Instead, he has chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction, and palaces for his cronies."
"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has invigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs
continue a pace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, December 5, 2001Truth!
The only letter with this quote from December 5, 2001 that we could find did not include the participation of Senator Bob Graham, but it was signed nine other senators including Democrat Joe Lieberman.
It urged President Bush to take quicker action against Iraq.
"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandated of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002-Truth!
These were remarks from Senator Levin to a Senate committee on that date.
"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002-Truth!
This and the quote below was part of prepared remarks for a speech in San Francisco to The Commonwealth Club.
"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002-Truth!
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002-Truth!
Part of a speech he gave at Johns Hopkins.
"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998.
We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities.
Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002-Truth!
On the floor of the Senate during debate over the resolution that would authorize using force against Iraq.
He was urging caution about going to war and commented that even though there was confidence about the weapons in Iraq, there had not been the need to take military action for a number of years and he asked why there would be the need at that point.
"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force-- if necessary-- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002-Truth!
Senator Kerry's comments were made to the Senate as part of the same debate over the resolution to use force against Saddam Hussein.
"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated
the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002-Truth!
Senator Rockefeller's statements were a part of the debate over using force against Saddam Hussein.
"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his
chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002-Truth!
Senator Waxman's contribution to the Senate debate over going to war.
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological
weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program.
He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002-Truth!
Senator Clinton acknowledged the threat of Saddam Hussein but said she did not feel that using force at that time was a good option.
"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime He presents a
particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his
continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction
So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ..."
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan.23.2003-Truth!
In a speech to Georgetown University.

December 22, 2008 - 16:38 ET by Scuba DudeLook, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S.
Joe Biden
Jobs is a three-letter-word, according to Biden speaking about John McCain's economic policies at a US presidential election rally, October 2008
If you want to know where Al Qaeda lives, you want to know where Bin Laden is, come back to Afghanistan with me. Come back to the area where my helicopter was forced down, with a three-star general and three senators at 10,500 feet in the middle of those mountains. I can tell you where they are.
Joe Biden
Addressing National Guard, Baltimore, September 2008, about time his helicopter had to make a landing not because of Al Qaeda but due to a sudden snowstorm.
When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, "look, here's what happened."
Joe Biden
In interview with CBS News, September 2008. However, Roosevelt wasn't president in 1929 and televisions were still experimental.
Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.
Joe Biden
Gaffe-prone Biden predicted an international crisis during first six months of Obama’s Presidency, at fund-raising gathering in Seattle in October 2008.
Uh, uh, Chuck Graham, state senator, is here. Stand up, Chuck, let ‘em see you. Oh, God love you. What am I talking about.

December 22, 2008 - 11:38 ET by ricklailI am not the best person to predict the future. I can't even pick winners in football. But, I do predict that Obama's newness will wear off. He is not going to be able to fulfill all the promises he has made. The money is not going to be there. The Democrat congress will have made such a big mess of things that come the mid term elections in 2010 we are going to see them slide.
The press is going to stay on Sarah constantly. Just look at how they have covered her church burning or the story about her daughter's mother-in-law. They have yet to cover Obama's radical picks in his cabinet. They want to bury her before 2012 because they know that Obama will be such a flop by 2012 she could walk right in and win.

December 22, 2008 - 10:42 ET by nofateLMAO! Coulter's filet knife is as sharp as ever. Like her or not, she can cut to the heart of a matter:
" In fact, I can’t think of a better place to put someone you wanted to keep away from the White House than on a ticket with McCain.
Palin was a kick in the pants, she energized conservatives, and she made liberal heads explode. Other than his brave military service, introducing Sarah Palin to Americans is the greatest thing John McCain ever did for his country."
And I'd be surprised if we've heard the last of Sarah. The woman conservative voters have called by her first name since she was announced. There is love here. Politicians connive their whole lives to get a little piece of what she exudes from her very being. Paraphrasing the famous words of the idiot rino governator: "She'll be back!".

Obama Pleased the Obama Team finds Obama untouched by Blago scandal
Looking poised and in control, the magnificently physiqued President elect, graciously spoke to the the assembled throng of awe-struck journalists.
Commenting on the findings of his unbiased, self-appointed commission, President Elect Obama stated that: "I never had any doubt that the team I appointed to investigate me would reach this fair conclusion. I will now take my usual one follow-up question... Chris, Chris Matthews..."
"Thank you Mr President elect, long-time fan... I know you have a busy schedule but could, could I just ask you this... and I'm sure I speak for most journalists, but .. could I blow you?"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it ridiculous that the AP continues to put out stories saying Obama and Emanuel are 'clean' in the Blago incident based on findings by their OWN team. Is this indicative of the kind of internal investigations the Obama administration will have.

Oil price???
December 22, 2008 - 11:24 ET by ThisnThatWhat's the real price of oil these days? On Friday, it was $33/barrel. Today, it's $42/barrel, down $0.07.
Does this make sense to anyone? Or does it tell you the price is set by speculators, so that suckers like us pay through the nose?

December 22, 2008 - 14:04 ET by choselife3xI believe a lot of posters would agree that President Bush has been far too liberal in his spending. Not to mention illegal immigration, bailouts...
Responsibility for the current economic state rests on Democrats affirmative action housing policies, RINO gutlessness, greedy lenders, and foolish consumers.
If Bush had steadfastly toed a fiscally conservative line I believe we'd be in much better shape than we are now.
In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.
I don't think anyone...
December 22, 2008 - 14:23 ET by Wilbur747could have said it better.
I voted for GWB twice, but on the second occasion, I was reduced to voting for the lesser of two evils.
Funny how the MSM never gives Dems the credit for the massive overspending that helped create the situation we're in. Bush got blamed for rising gas prices, but not credit for lower prices.
Don't even get me started on the officially sanctioned racist policy of Affirmative Action! Don't get me started on illegal immigration either! I live on the battle fornt in AZ and our great governor, Nepoli-Reno is slated for HS. May God help us!
For the life of me I can't figure out what happened to Bush. Did he think his reputation would falter if he stuck to conservative principals? Why did he feel the need to cater to the Dems?
We elect our Prez based on our ideals and beliefs. Such Prez should stick to those ideals and not waiver for the sake of "reaching across the isle".
It was the Dems who made it possible for low income folks to get into unaffordable housing (as well as their foolishness). I realize that we strive for the American Dream, but if you can't afford it, don't buy it.
I dream for another conservative like Reagan.
choselife3x
December 22, 2008 - 17:32 ET by shawn228I am not holding the democrats blameless for all our economic crises, but there is plenty of blame to go around. Don't forget that the GOP had control of the the Presidency and both chambers of congress for over two years and that was a disaster.

choselife3x
December 22, 2008 - 18:59 ET by shawn228In 2004 even before Bush was re-elected when congress was run by the republicans, the federal budget raised over 2 trillion and the deficit to over 500 billion.
It just got worse after that, our national debt raised to over 8 trillion, Yes I know the msm is bias against the GOP, but there is no denying that 06 was a disaster for the GOP right.?
I am not going to include Tom Delay or Bill Frist, because there was no conviction or proof or ethics violations, but
Yes, I know about William Jefferson and fridge money and the double standard, but your question was why those two years was a disaster right?
Those two years also included the bridge to nowhere, out of control federal spending and when it came to earmarks, the GOP was no different than their Democrat counterparts.
I know as a Christian you will disagree with the euthanasia or you might even consider the word murder of Teri Shiavo, but I would be surprised for you to disagree with the fact that Politicians getting involved with that case backfired on them for votes.
The result was a thumpin' in 06
Fast forward to today, Obviously Bush is not responsible for everything, but he will leave his post with unprecedented national debt, an official recession and the one of the lowest approval ratings of any President since polling was created. It is actually quite sad how no one wanted to be seen with him during the 08 election.

December 22, 2008 - 20:50 ET by shawn228Your original question was how was a disaster for the Republicans those two years, and I told you.

That was my point
December 22, 2008 - 21:15 ET by choselife3xThe Republicans as a whole did not hold to core principles of small government, personal responsibility, and moral integrity. The reason they f'd up is they sold out. All the issues you raised would not have existed if they had acted like real fiscal/social conservatives.
All the disasters you referred to are attributable to their failure to act according to conservative standards.
In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.
and my point is choselife3x
December 22, 2008 - 21:31 ET by shawn228All parties think they way is better than the others. Sure the GOP could have brought down the debt, and made our national prosperous if not for a few bad apples, just like how everyone could have free health care and illegal immigrants can live with us and none of us ever have to work again, if it was not for William Jefferson and Blogojevich.
Every party has its flaws and bad apples, it is how a party comes together in a whole that is important. The Repubican congress was a miserable failure just as much as the Democratic congress has been a failure for the last two.
Now that the Dems have control of everything, there is no excuses if they fail, but I am giving them the benifit of the doubt right now and hope for the best, because I believe in America, not a party.

I agree that the GOP congress did a horrible job at being conservatives.
If they had maintained the integrity of the conservative ideals of fiscal and moral responsibility we would not be having this conversation.
Basically your beef with them (and mine) is they've been acting like Democrats.

December 22, 2008 - 22:31 ET by shawn228It comes down to the person, I thought Reagan was a great President, I also thought Bill Clinton was a great President.
I have asked this question of quite a few people, are we better off than we were 8 years ago?

That depends on Obama. A President usually has little to do with these things. If Obama does stuff that WILL make things worse, like higher taxes, like cap and trade, like nationalized health care, like killing the coal industry, like restricting oil drilling, like spending an additional trillion dollars on top of our already out of control spending, then yes, you can believe we won't give him a pass.
As President, you can do the right things, and bad things will still happen despite doing the right things. But if you do things that are guaranteed to kill the economy, then you are to blame when that happens.

Shawn, there is a lot there. Bush definitely had little to do with the collapse of the economy- that was accomplished by Carter, Clinton, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick et. al. via the pushing of unviable loans. The debt I would have trouble defending due to the massive spending programs- but don't think for a second that conservatives supported those spending programs. Rinos and country clubbers did, but not conservatives.
As for forgiving Obama because "he has little to do with these things", you are comparing apples to oranges. Obama is going to be responsible for the most massive transfer of wealth in history, destroy property rights, allow aliens free flow across the border, pack the courts- upper and lower- with leftist judges, encourage the reinstatement by bureaucratic fiat of the fairness doctrine, raise taxes as soon as he thinks he can get away with it, and probably sign off on the confiscation of our IRA's. And that's just for starters. If none of this happens, I'll be surprised. Forgive that? Nope.

surprised. Forgive that? Nope."
Well as far as I know, Obama has not done any of these things yet and is yet be sworn in. I wish I could stare into a crystal ball and know whats going to happen, but I do not and neither do you.
Yes Obama might have ideas you disagree with and your right he could screw up badly, but I honestly don't see how much worse he could be than our current leadership

BREAKING NEWS The big
December 22, 2008 - 14:23 ET by Jack BauerBREAKING NEWS
The big political rumor in New York today is that Gov. Patterson is indeed inclined to appoint Caroline Kennedy as Senator.
Apparently, he thinks she's black! And no one has the guts to tell him the truth.

Joseph Farah rips Rick Warren for accepting PEBO's offer.
December 22, 2008 - 15:27 ET by R D HelmJoseph Farah is the HDIC over at WorldNetDaily, and is none to pleased with Rick Warren's decision to accept PEBO's offer of delivering the invocation at the anointing, I mean the inauguration of The One.
The more I have thought about it since the news first broke, the more I agree with Mr. Farrah.
Wow, I just love it when people don't mince words. :-)

My husband and I have been
December 22, 2008 - 15:44 ET by sherylsimsMy husband and I have been arguing about RW's acceptance since we heard about it. He feels it is important to let "our side" be heard at every opportunity and I feel like Rick Warren is a sellout. I was so happy to read Joseph Farrah's open letter to Rick Warren, because he worded for me my exact sentiments. Not wanting to be judgemental, just to be discerning. And he is right, I can't picture Jesus accepting that particular "opportunity".
Jesus not allowed in a Mississippi government school.
December 22, 2008 - 15:40 ET by R D HelmSome idiot "teacher" in a government school reduces a student's grade for mentioning the name "Jesus" in a poem.
Why is it I think if the student had written a poem about a child-molesting murderer named Mohammed that this idiot teacher would have had no problem with it?

Let me take this occasion
December 22, 2008 - 15:42 ET by ricklailLet me take this occasion to wish all my fellow NBer's a Merry Christmas. I have to work a few hours in the morning and then I am taking off for the western part of NC. You may not hear from me again until late Friday. Because my daugther and her family are in Indiana we won't have our get together until Friday lunch.
This will probably be our last Christmas together for a few years. Both son-in-law, the Marine and the Navy Corpsman are to deploy this summer to Afganistan. One of my sons is moving his family to Clearwater FL. Don't know when I will see them again. By the way that is 4 kids and 9 grand youngens.

NYT duped by letter from the "Mayor" of Paris
December 22, 2008 - 17:22 ET by R D HelmIt seems the New York Times published a letter to the editor that was rather critical of Caroline Kennedy's senate bid. The letter came to the NYT in the form of an email, and was signed with the name Bertrand Delanoe, the current Mayor of Paris.
Only problem was, it wasn't an email from the good Mayor at all, but the NYT published it anyway without first taking the rather simple step of verifying its authenticity.
LOL-That's not embarrassing, now, is it?
Real "on the ball" bunch, those NYTers. :-)

I could say a lot more, but more words aren't needed.
Thank you for keeping those of us who have cared a lot updated.
Bless you all and may peace come eventually to all who love her.

December 22, 2008 - 19:47 ET by RukusRight now she has that beautiful smile on her face as she enjoys her place in paradise. I'm sure our Lord is asking her for patience in greeting us there. One day, one day... Have a blessed Christmas.

December 22, 2008 - 23:49 ET by JerRukus... I was unaware of Brianna's loss until this evening. Her life on earth, all too brief, a precious memory...but you know that "beautiful smile" now lights the streets of Heaven and warms the heart of a loving God who will hold her close forever.
Bless you and all of Brianna's family.

December 22, 2008 - 20:13 ET by RukusI hope justice will indeed be served. Now comes the hard part, getting him convicted and then getting throught the appeals. At least he's where he belongs right now. And jail and/or execution will be the easy part for him, he stills has to answer to a higher power at some point. Have a blessed Christmas Shawn.

Tomorrow Is Brit Hume's Last Day,
December 22, 2008 - 23:49 ET by Asian Conif I heard correctly, as host of Special Report. He'll be on a X-Mas break and when he returns, he said, he'll be doing commentary on FNC. I think this means we'll get to hear more of his personal opinions. I don't know if he'll get another show. Any guesses on his replacement? My guess is probably Brett Baier. He fills in most of the time and I think he does an adequate job. He covers the news objectively and professionally.
After the elections I got burned out on cable news and haven't watched much, as of late. Special Report was the only show on FNC that I tuned in to watch on a consistent basis. Well, that and Red Eye. I can tolerate O'Reilly, even though he's a pompous blowhard and never lets anyone get a word in edgewise, because he goes after the MSM and liberal loonies. Hannity & Colmes is mostly a screaming session and I'll be glad when Colmes is gone! I think they should replace him with Kirsten Powers. She's fair, reasonable, smart and nice to look at. Looking forward to Glenn Beck but, sometimes he's a little too doom and gloom for me. What do you guys think?
One more thing. Brit Hume would've made a great replacement for Russert on MTP. David Gregory?! Who wants to look at that for an hour? He is going to run MTP into the ground!!!
