For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: with the Democrat presidential nomination process now likely to run into June, things are getting uglier and uglier:

A day after Hillary Clinton regained her footing in the Democrats' presidential-nominating marathon, she and Barack Obama intensified their attacks on each other, geared up for messy rules fights and wooed the party leaders who could decide the race.

With Clinton's kitchen sink, scorched earth strategy having worked in Texas and Ohio, is Obama going to have to drop the nice guy facade and begin vociferously attacking back to save his campaign? How ugly do you think this is going to get?

Maybe more important, if he goes to the convention with a delegate and popular vote lead, but the Clintons use their influence to steal the victory from him, would he actually accept Hillary's offer to be vice president?

It's a win/win for the GOP.

The longer this thing goes on, the better. Now they will have to raise and spend millions upon millions attacking each other through May, and possibly June. Plus, there are going to be all kinds of manipulations and machinations by the Clinton campaign to steal the nomination away from Obama.

If Obama eventually does walk away with the nomination, he will be bloodied and brought down to earth by the Clinton Inc. He will no longer be "change and hope", but just another politician.

Well, this is awesome news

Well, this is awesome news for the Republicans.  Obama and Hillary need attack each other.  This will destroy their party.

Hillary is too proud to get out of the fight before the Democratic Convention.  I can already see a repeat of 1969 convention in Chicago.

Funny thing is that Obama is saying about the Clintons what Republicans have been saying about the Clintons all along.

and the Clintons are attacking Obama with the same ammunition and facts that Republicans have been using all along.

sorry Dan,

yes I ment the 1968 convention.  and shoot, obama supporters have sworn that they would riot if Hillary is nominated and I can guarantee you that Obama would lose most of Hillary supporters.

I have personally witness in my office the hate that Obama and Hillary supporters have for each other.  It is scary, it is almost, almost at the same level of hate that Liberals have for Bush.

I just think that is quite sad that Obama's main supporters are young college kids that when channel 9 news, here in Chicago, went out on Wednesday and asked Obama supporters why they supported him they all would laugh and simply say, "He stands for hope and change..."  when the reporter would ask them to name specifics they couldn't.

I will say this over and over again....Obama reminds me of Hugo Chavez in 1998.  Chavez had the same message of hope and change for Venezuelan voters, he had no specifics, other than...I am not your typical politician, I am for hope and change.  And i am sure we can all agree that Chavez hasn't been exactly a great leader for Venezuela.  Obama is no different, the man is a radical, listen to his wife, listen to his advisers and shoot look who his friends are, William Ayers!  God help the USA if this man gets elected.  Listen to the man Obama calls his mentor, the pastor of the "Christian" black separist Church Obama has belonged to for 20 years.

I thought I would never say this, but I pray every night that if a Democrat ends up in the White House in November, it is Hillary Clinton.

NASCAR is the worst organization to change rules not only in a season but sometimes in the middle of a race. It appears that the Dems are following NASCAR. From what I have been reading they are now talking about a redo of the primaries in FL and MI. Will this not really piss off the Obamantion supporters? As things go now he would have to have 77% of the remaining delegates to win the nomination-Hillary would need 94%. It seems that many of the superdelegates are leaning toward Obamination. I am like Rush. I want to see the Dems destroy themselves and keep this fight up between the Hildabeast and Obamantion. Well, I haven't changed

The party registration, so the state of Florida still does, but I have not decided how I'll vote in the fall. Or even whether I'll stay registered Republican -- something the Ron Paul groups all urge me to do, BTW.

And do any of the confident predictors of a Ron Paul 3rd party run want to admit they were wrong? I've seen lots of predictions 'round these parts, but so far 0 such admissions. Isn't it becoming obvious he's gonna be a Republican congressman for a couple more years? Why not admit I was right?? I just saw a great Aldous Huxley quote in Downsizer Dispatch today:
"Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." The fact is, even counting the '88 Libertarian run, Ron Paul is a hell of a lot more loyal to that party than it has been to him, or than I am.

The good news for your party, for the time being, is that laziness is on your side. Oh, and I took a sober look at my celebratory words from yesterday, and I stand by all of 'em. I read that story Sarc

I know well what happened in 1996. And that was conveniently after the 1988 libertarian fiasco.

Which followed (1974)

Ron Paul's early & continual support of the most-conservative candidate out there, another conservative named Ron, come to think of it, against Gerald Ford. But the Republican party chose differently, and we all know how well THAT went when they betrayed conservative principles.

Then, once Reagan finally got power, the size of big government (despite constant media lies) greatly increased! What, pray tell, should an ambitious, conservative politician have done in that situation? Who got betrayed, and who did the betraying, anyway? Think carefully about Republican Party history, and you'll see why I wasn't joking.

Anyway, and regardless of why, he ran as a Libertarian for President in 1988. In fact, he had the balls to be openly pro-life in a largely pro choice party. Dr. Paul ran against another cool guy named Russell Means, and he won* a tough Presidential primary honorably. But this is all ancient history, and it's probably boring everyone.

This is conveniently around 6 months from when the FED cut rates...

Homeless vets officially "Overstated"

VA Estimates Fewer Homeless Vets

Associated Press  |  March 06, 2008

WASHINGTON - The number of homeless veterans has declined to just over 150,000, the government says.

The Veterans Affairs Department estimates that on any given night last year, 154,000 veterans were homeless, about a 20 percent decrease from 195,827 in the agency's 2006 estimate.

The decrease comes even as Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are trickling into shelters. The VA has seen about 500 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans in homeless-specific programs, and the number is increasing as the pool of troops who fought in the wars grows, said Pete Dougherty, the VA's director of homeless programs.

VA and community programs targeting homelessness, a decline in the number of living World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans, and an improvement in the way the annual estimate was taken so fewer people were counted more than once were all credited as reasons behind the overall decline.
