For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: McCain now ahead of Obama and Clinton (paragraph breaks eliminated):
As he emerges from a sometimes- bitter primary campaign, presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain poses a stiff challenge to either of his potential Democratic opponents in the general election, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found. The findings underscore the difficulties ahead for Democrats as they hope to retake the White House during a time of war, with voters giving McCain far higher marks when it comes to experience, fighting terrorism and dealing with the situation in Iraq...In head-to-head contests, the poll found, McCain leads Clinton by 6 percentage points (46% to 40%) and Obama by 2 points (44% to 42%).
Is this an indication of just how absurd it is, with eight months to go before Election Day, for anyone to predict with certainty what's going to happen in November?

Since there are many unanswered questions and gaps in his proposal, when the dust settles, NJ will probably sue for bankruptcy.
Remember, this budget is presented AFTER his proposal to borrow money, which should have been BEFORE he made his dire predictions - unfortuneatly, the pubs in our state haven't made a proposal of their own, thereby looking like they don't have any idea. February 27, 2008 - 10:19 ET by JayTeeIf the MSM is pushing the early Polls that Obama (now) is unbeatable by Hillary, then you (hopefully) get air time for those Polls that show the Dems are behind of the Republicans.
Otherwise it's just one way propaganda. If the MSM Agenda is Early polls, Hillary is a winner......like in November...it was an uphill battle for Obama.
Makes you wonder why the MSM even pushes these numbers out there....unless they want to show Obama as having to play "catch up"...another underdog storyline is building for the Prophet. Where is Rome when you need them ?

February 27, 2008 - 10:30 ET by shawn228I do not see how it is absurd. In 2004 rarely did they say the John Kerry had the momentum and rarely showed him in front of GWB.
That is purpose of polls, to show how people are feeling at the moment. Yes they got it wrong in NH and some got it wrong in California, it does not change the fact that they said McCain had the momentum because he is pretty much mathmatically the nominee 2 months later right?
This article by the NB staff have people giving McCain high marks for the WOT, but almost every poll shows Obama in front in a General Election.
With so many GOP voters staying home "if people on this site can be used as a cluster sample" Does it really surprise you the Obama is in the lead in almost every single poll?
Prove it.

I mean, you see a link like that every once in a while here on NB, from-me, but do you ever see any reference to this gaming marketplace elsewhere? McCain can beat Hussein in a Landslide
February 27, 2008 - 11:25 ET by PopularTechThe fact is all those polls are useless and will be until the Dem nomination is sealed. McCain can win in a landslide if he simply makes a contract with conservatives.
McCain needs to sign the following:
1. I will not raise any Taxes
2. I will not implement a Cap and Trade system, Carbon Taxes or any other global warming regulation to cripple the economy
3. I will not sign any Amnesty or Comprehensive Immigration reform legislation
4. I will build the Border Fence and secure the border
5. I will only appoint Strict Constructionist Judges
6. I will not close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp or move any detainees to the United States where they can receive legal representation from groups like the ACLU.
Just like Hussein is driving out the black vote he will also drive out the MUCH larger racial vote.
Hussein is the GOP dream candidate to run against, it is their election to lose. Conservatives need to keep saying in these polls that they will vote for Hussein over McCain until he gets the message and agrees to a compromise.

One thing, market based proof of the antilibertarian media bias I've been continually-busting for longer than most of you have even been here, is not the same as a hallucinated claim that Ron Paul was going to win, which (despite the hallucination I quoted) I have never said. No, I said that *markets* say
February 27, 2008 - 15:25 ET by sarcasmoThat Ron Paul had a better chance than the media said, and I used that as free-market proof of media bias (and thanks for digging up confirmation that -- shockingly-enough -- I'm right about me, it saved me the trouble).
When you backtrack all the way to "insinuated," it's basically an admission that -- just as I said -- I never-said-that. Fred Thompson fans "insinuated" he'd win here, too, if anything even more vociferously, and we saw where THAT went. Go find all 55 quotes if you want to, but you will not find me confirming the hallucination about me that I quoted. That was my only point. Here's the scoop on the
February 27, 2008 - 10:34 ET by dscottHere's the scoop on the bitter primaries: The NYT’s stock price has been in decline since W took office in 2001. Why? Because liberalism’s shrill voice grates on the American Public. No one likes to listen to angry people rant all the time about how bad everything is without any hint of good news or solutions with positive outcomes. Negative gossip and salacious stories must be balanced by positive outcomes and the knowledge that despite everything all will turn out well in the end. The NYT had that balance when Clinton was in power because they could at least propagandize “for” the Clinton admin even while covering “problems”. During the last 7 years with W, the NYT had no one to really propagandize for in government so they were left with only negatives.
Human nature is to turn away from hearing a continual stream of negatives when you are not personally involved in the outcome. Doom and gloom sells for the short term but it does not sell for the long term, people tune out. The NYT and the rest of the MSM’s only hope for survival is a Democrat President in the WH to propagandize for in a positive manner to balance off the doom and gloom.
Now on to McCaingate: The reason for the NYT hit piece on McCain is the liberal principle of “false moral equivalence”. We already know the Clinton’s scandal ridden history, Obama with virtually no record, a blank slate if you will, gave the Dems something to latch onto and propagandize without the baggage of the Clintons. The problem is the Clintons are not ready to go along with the program, they want 8 more years and are willing to sacrifice the Dem party future if necessary. The Clintons believe that the Dems will vote for anyone with D behind their name because of pride, so in their mind no matter how ugly the primary is and how sleazy they act, they will get votes in any event. The Clinton opposition research has dug up so much dirt on Obama that once all released, Obama will be no better than the Clintons.
The Dems were left with a problem, both of their candidates have major baggage which can not be swept back under the rug because we nasty Repubs won’t let them play the revisionist game without challenging it. So out comes the NYT hit piece on McCain to lower him to the same level of disrepute as Clinton and Obama. Once the public buys into the “all politicians are the same” premise then the negatives of Obama get cancelled out for the general election. The NYT fell on it’s sword in the hope that their actions would tip the balance enough that a Dem would win in 2008 and thus set the stage for financial recovery of the paper. Yes folks, the NYT made a crass financial gamble. If McCain wins in November the NYT is going belly up in 2009 or Sulzberger and the editors will be sacked to save the paper

Ben Shapiro at townhall.com
February 27, 2008 - 10:39 ET by motherbeltBen Shapiro at townhall.com has some advice for John McCain on How to Beat Barack Obama.
The tactic: attack his message of "change."
Money quote:
His focus on change means he despises this country the way it is. His wife, Michelle, is crystal clear on this. "Our souls are broken in this nation," she said this month at UCLA. "That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this race who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls."
(Aside: Just what is it that is wrong with our souls and how will electing her husband fix them?)
I agree. It's one thing to claim that certain things in this country need changing is one thing. To imply that we are all sick souls in need of a healer is both condescending and arrogant. Especially when someone then gets into trouble for criticizing that message of sainthood that can heal the masses.

February 27, 2008 - 11:28 ET by BDThe funniest thing is that here in Sierra Vista Arizona we have a guy who stands on the main street corner in town with a sign that says "Jesus saves." Starting two weeks ago he was joined by a wild haired guy with a "Ron Paul revolution" sign with the "evol" portion painted in a different color to emphasise what, "Backward Love"????
What is particularly intersting is that when you observe the proselytizing christian, he seems to be generally horrified at the antics of the Ron Paul supporter who has taken the christians actions and amplified them five fold. It is almost the equivalent of watching a hippy dance in the mud at Woodstock.

February 27, 2008 - 11:56 ET by BDIs that it clearly horrifies you & the others here so much, despite the fact that Paul has even less chance of getting the Republican nomination than McCain has of winning the general election. More whines on NB will not change that, either.

Go look it up instead of whining like a little girl about some irrelevant & hopeless supporter. I met a Fred Thompson supporter once who smelled bad, but somehow I was able to avoid whining about it on NB. Think about it...

And even though you've progressed to copy-and-paste...
and told him to Google. You could've politely answered his question or provide a link to the proper answer (there's a lot of garbage on Google, y'know). But nooooooo, you had to be rude and insulting. Here's a free clue: that's no way to woo people over to your side.

February 27, 2008 - 16:46 ET by sarcasmoBD was rude first, so I responded in kind. And you apparently don't know much about BD to say that he could possibly be "wooed" by a Constitituionalist/noninterventionist choice which I've already repeatedly-said was rejected for McCain. No point in not being direct with him if (like you...) he's going to try to hallucinate about what I've clearly-said.

It just does not get any more overtly anti-American than that. We probably need to hunt down whoever wore an orange ribbon and fly them the hell out of here fast. They can not be trusted, and will sell our country out in a New York minute. They are the American version of Vichy.

February 27, 2008 - 12:30 ET by DCC1McCain appologizes for a conservative refering to Obama by his middle name.
http://ap.google.com...
"McCain wasn't on stage or, he says, in the building when Cunningham
made the comments, but he quickly distanced himself from the radio talk
show host after finishing his speech. McCain spoke to a couple hundred
people at Memorial Hall in downtown Cincinnati.
"I apologize for
it," McCain told reporters, addressing the issue before they had a
chance to ask the Arizona senator about Cunningham's comments."
How can he be this weak? Does Hillary or Hussein say they are sorry when someone slams McCain? NO they say they have nothing to do with it, and that person can say what they want.
Why is Hussein off limits anyway? It IS his middle name!
Let me get this straight, things off limits to talk about Obama:
His Name
His background growing up
Drug use
His political votes while a state politician
Possible Ties to Al Qaeda donors
Corruption ties to donors
His Patriotism
His stance on radical Islam
ect...
McCain WAKE UP! We Americans have things called rights, and free speach, you don't have to apologize for things others said! Besides that, maybe you should ask some of these questions yourself!
Things we can talk about:
Change
Hope
Terrorists want change too

We Have a Few
February 27, 2008 - 15:25 ET by Del DolemonteNew Hampshire only has 18 miles of seacoast, but we do have a couple of nice beaches. Unfortunately, the northern Atlantic is so fricking cold it's an adventure in cardiac arrest just to go swimming, even in August. We do have some nice sandy beaches on a few of our inland lakes, but those are also few and far between, as much of the lake shoreline is rocky (if you've ever seen the Hepburn/Fonda movie "On Golden Pond" you'll know what I mean).
I was actually lucky enough to grow up a mile from Kailua Beach, which is #3 on the list. It regularly ranks in the top 10 worldwide, not just in the US. Everyone should try and get there at least once.

February 27, 2008 - 16:48 ET by bigtimerAs I ended up back here by coincidence I wanted to add that I just heard a report about Obama on CNN with Wolf where they were seeming anyway to look into Obama and the Trinity Church, his old minister who retired a year ago or so and attempted to get hold of Farrakhan to see how he felt being denounced by Obama last night...they had no luck anywhere contacting all of them...
I will say I hope this doesn't end anytime soon...and I do hope others are following this...

All I can say after seeing
February 27, 2008 - 17:16 ET by motherbeltAll I can say after seeing that is Wow! He is one ticked-off man! I agree 100% with his saying that McCain needs to start attacking Democrats instead of his supporters.
But the middle and Democrat appeasement syndrome is so ingrained he just reflexively kicks his own guys to the curb in order to pander to the Democrats. Doesn't he realize that as soon as the primaries are over, they will go over to the Democrat side, no matter what he does? There aren't enough "moderates" in the country to make up for the conservative base if he loses them. But he is acting like the Clintons, who have taken the black vote for granted for years, assuming they will fall in line behind him just because he says it's important that they do. But it's the libs who bite the bullet and fall in behind their candidate...conservatives are not known for doing that, and he'd better realize that.

This is what we(my husband and me) watched together that I was talking about after all of this BS yesterday with McCain...as I posted elsewhere I know...

We will vote in other area's ect...I just hope McCain doesn't make it through some kind of divine intervention...he is no friend to us...never has been in my view.
