Chris Wallace Thinks NYT’s Hit Piece Could Help McCain

Count Fox News's Chris Wallace in the group that believes the New York Times recent hit piece about John McCain might end up helping the GOP presidential candidate woo disgruntled conservatives in time for this November's elections.

Wouldn't it be just exquisitely delicious irony if it turned out the Times spent 3,000 words to diminish McCain's candidacy only to end up furthering it?

According to Wallace, who was interviewed Thursday by WOR radio's Steve Malzberg, such is definitely possible (11-minute audio available here):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

If there is one thing that is going to convince conservatives that maybe John McCain is one of them it's the fact that he's getting trashed by the New York Times. In fact, one of the things, and I don't have to tell you this, that conservatives held against McCain, is that they felt that he was too chummy with the mainstream media. He was too close to the networks, and the New York Times, and in fact people used to say that his identification should be instead of "R-Arizona" should be "R-Media." That, that the media, the mainstream media was his real constituency. So, I think that this in a funny way could end up helping not hurting John McCain.

Heeheehee. Earlier, Wallace rendered his opinion about the article in question:

My take on it is, and I've been an investigative reporter for most of my career, is that, that it's thin. I mean, there are stories you read and you say, "Man, they have got it. They have got it cold." And there's stories you read that you say, "There's not much there." And there sure doesn't seem to be enough here to be a front-page story in the New York Times, or any place else.

First of all, we're talking about a story that happened nine years ago in 1999 when McCain was running for president the first time. It says that his staff was concerned about the fact that he was hanging out a lot with this very attractive, at least from the pictures, young lobbyist named Vicki Iseman, and that they told him and her to stay away from each other. You know, I don't know that that's much of a story there...It just is a thin story.

At this point, this seems to be the consensus view of most journalists willing to be impartial on the subject.

On an unrelated note, as the interview progressed, Malzberg asked Wallace about all the media fawning over Fidel Castro. With that in mind, readers are highly encouraged to fast-forward to minute 9:00 where they'll be treated to a marvelous story about Castro visiting the United Nations about ten or fifteen years ago.

A press luncheon was held for the Cuban dictator at which all matter of media member were in attendance including Wallace's father Mike. At one point, Mike asked Castro a question about education policy. Fidel rambled on for 40 minutes. So, Wallace just left the event before it concluded.

Later, father told son, "He's the biggest windbag I ever saw in my life. I mean, he's the biggest bore."

Chris marvelously finished: "The Wallaces have never drunk the Kool-Aid on Fidel Castro!"

Delicious.

Think Again, Chris

I continue to marvel at the MSM's belief that Conservatives will rally to McCain's side because he was attacked by the NYT.

Not this Conservative, Mr. Wallace.

Frankly, the whole idea is insulting.  I oppose McCain because he has repeatedly and viciously attacked the political principles I stand for.

Because I'm a loyal Republican and because President Obama would be a political catastrophe, I will almost certainly break down and vote for McCain in November.

But the NYT will have NOTHING to do with my decision.

zee... I couldn't agree

zee...

I couldn't agree more.

You are not alone, I am sick of hearing how this is going to make conservatives rally to McCain, it is not.

I despise the NYT's, I also despise McCain.

Seems to me we have not choice though if we want to keep Obam/Hill out...which at the rate Obama is going I don't think there is anyway to stop him unless something short of a miracle happens before Nov.

What a predicament we are in.

BT

BT,

O how ye have little faith.

You're ready to call this election eight months out? Wasn't Hillary the inevitable candidate eight months ago? You haven't learned anything from these polls lately, namely, that the only thing you can count on is them being wrong?

The general election hasn't even begun, and so many on my side are throwing in the towel. Do you think that might be part of the media strategy -- continue to discuss how inevitable Obama is so that conservatives don't go to the polls in November?

Honestly, if folks on the right continue to buy into the fact that this race is over, it will be. And, the idea that so many folks that participate at a website devoted to exposing how much of the media meme is to create a self-fulfilling prophecy is amazing to me.

So, let me get this straight: you don't believe anything the MSM tells you EXCEPT that Obama is a shoo in to take this election?

If you don't believe anything else they report, why believe this?

As I'm sure you know, all questions and statements made with due respect and esteem. ns

Good Morning NoeL... I

Good Morning NoeL...

I don't need what the msm says to tell me what is happening at the moment right in front of my face regarding Obama, I have never seen anything like this in my life with this guy...

As you know I am usually a very optimistic person, but this time I am not when it comes to the msm and who we have for a candidate, the msm will do everything to have Obama elected, protection and spin included, they will be more so with this guy IMHO...mre importantly though Noel look at the following he has, have you ever witnessed anything like this in politics?

I read your post to MC and I loved your last words there...I almost posted to you then just regarding that portion but you weren't addressing me, you used the word guarantee...you do not know how much I hope you are right.

Last time we debated on this subject to an extent you know I posted about we have a long way to go yet, that the msm will anger so many of us by the election we will most likely vote for the guy some of us despise, for me he will have to pick a conservative, but I will vote, I always do.

I don't let the msm tell me anything to believe...I think for myself and form my own opinions, I also have said that there can be a lot of surprises, twists and turns down the long road yet in other posts...believe me I am terrified of these two critters who are nothing but total socialists and that is putting it nicely.

Now I am rambling on...anyway, I will never ever like McCain , but unfortuanately he may end up being the lesser of three evils for me.

Plus of course the House and Senate is of utmost importance also...I just know how I felt in '06 and I was wrong, I hope I am wrong now regarding Obama being on a run-away train and the msm will aid and abet with glee getting him to his final destination, they will spin spin spin, socialism is becoming the way of life expected by the masses, cradle to grave, the people are being raised to think this is an owed birth right...the dems have been working on this all my life, it seems to be coming to fruition in my lifetime with what I have seen in my lifetime... it is a crying shame, downright spooky for this country.

I pray your optimism is proved correct Noel, I really do, I also think there will be more to come out about McCain...

For me it will take a real miracle for something to happen to change the path this election is on...and miracles do happen.

Btw...Noel, You really

Btw...Noel,

You really ought to consider running for office of some kind, I meant to say that the other night when we all were debating and such, I kept meaning to go back and adding that on towards the end, so I am now.

I mean that in the highest regard, you have done well to get some here to see things your way...more to come I am sure...you have a way with words, that is for sure...lol.

I am just bidding my time and will see what happens on down the road...and of course I will vote...but nothing and I mean nothing will change my opinion of McCain...I did say opinion...lol.

The GOP "leaders" are counting on the sheeple

The GOP "leaders" are acting just like the Democratic "leaders" in assuming that in the end all Conservatives will pull the letter or push the button for the person with the "R" initial after their name. Somehow I think that they will be disappointed.

The down side is that it means we will probably have to weather at least 4 years of a Democratic administration likely with slim majorities in both the House and the Senate. It might be a rough 4 years, but maybe it means that the silent majority of the conservatives in the GOP can take it back from the populist usurpers. If not, then there might actually be an environment where a 3rd party can get a foothold and thrive.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

the new spin

Since the attack on McCain fizzled out, they're now going to pump him up as embracing the far right.

Chris Wallace is in the tank for McCain

I got so sick of watching Wall-ass that I actually sent an email to him through fox.com telling him I could no longer watch his puff piece interviews with McPain. Fox and Wallace have been in the tank for McPain and made it very obvious.

Personally, if I were running for President and Wallace asked whether I had sex with my wife before marriage like he did Romney....that little smarmy look would have been knocked off his face. I notice no other candidates were asked questions of that type.

I will note vote for a Demonrat from either party no matter how hard the MSN tries to persuade me.
