Actress Kate Walsh: Americans Who Support Offshore Drilling Are ‘Misinformed’
Actress Kate Walsh of ABC’s “Private Practice” told CNSNews.com that drilling offshore will not reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil and Americans who support domestic drilling are “misinformed.”
Walsh was on Capitol Hill with the nonprofit organization Oceana speaking at an event held to mark the one year anniversary of the BP gulf oil spill.
CNSNews.com asked Walsh about a recent CNN poll showing that the majority of Americans support more domestic drilling given the rising cost of gasoline.
“That’s surprising to me but not surprising in that I think that people are misinformed largely. I think that people are under the impression that if we drill offshore that we’ll reduce our dependence on foreign oil because that’s the messaging because the big oil companies have a lot of money. They have a lot of money to lobby and do advertising and tell a story which is actually untrue and that story is that if we drill offshore and eventually we will reduce our dependence on foreign oil,” she told CNSNews.com after the event.
“So, if there’s a tsunami that’s happening or if there’s a conflict in Libya or anywhere in the middle east where our oil comes from, that somehow we will be protected and ensured no matter what or that our people believe also which is fallacious that the gas prices will be reduced significantly if we expand our drilling and the truth of the matter is that there are studies have been shown it will not. It will take until literally the year 2030 to see any decrease in gas prices at the pump and that would be about 3 cents a gallon.”
Walsh was also asked which she thinks is better for the country – high or low gas prices.
“I don’t think that’s the question. I think the real issue is that we have to absolutely move away from petroleum use. Obviously, look, petroleum is in everything that we use. It’s in plastics. It’s not just in gasoline. It’s not just in heating our homes but we need to start looking at other resources and they are out there. I mean, it’s just evolution,” she told CNSNews.com.
“That’s the great thing about being an American is that we can come up with different ideas and different plans but what bothers me is that what drilling offshore is about is about profit for oil companies. It’s not about what’s good for America. It’s not about what’s good for the most people. It’s good for about, you know, one percent of people who make a lot of money off of drilling here in the United States offshore. It has nothing to do with what’s good for the American people, what’s good for the future, what’s good for our economy.”

No, Kate, it is those like you who oppose off-shore drilling and oil and gas exploration in general who always are proven to be the most misinformed.

Your TV show? "It has nothing to do with what’s good for the American people, what’s good for the future, what’s good for our economy.”

but an actress and her acting is mediocre at best.
What makes her, or anyone else, think she has any pertinent knowledge regarding drilling - on of off the coast?
She's doing what all lib actors do at one time or another; try to use political statements to get some attention for themselves and their shows.
Who dat?

I guess I am missinformed, I didn't know who she was, never heard of her before today. Checked her imdb, that explains it, she's in shows I don't watch.

-edit: one of my part time workers(female) apparently watches Grey's Anatomy that she's supposedly on, said "you don't know who she is??" I said "nope. I don't watch Grey Anatomy, why would I want to watch a show about the brain?"(tweaking her) She said "no, GREY'S Anatomy. It's about Dr. Grey." I said "Oh, ok so they did one on Dr. White and Dr. Black, now they got one in between?" She just rolled her eyes and said I didn't get it. Thank God.
She seems to think alot

So we just leave the oil there and let China or some other country get it?
How did she get to the event, walk?
She's the one who is misinformed but Hollywood never seems to let that get in the way!
Who is Kate Walsh, and why should I care what she thinks...

...about anything?
$6/gal gas (or higher) may not be a problem for Kate Walsh, but it will be causing a lot of problems for many of us little people.
She is one of the reasons why I don't believe the BS that libs care about the regular Joe's out there having to do without just to put gas in their vehicles to get back and forth to work - those Joe's lucky enough to still have jobs.
They couldn't care less.
The really sad part about all this is that it isn't necessary, and wouldn't be happening if we didn't have a rogue POTUS hell-bent on destroying our economy.
Rising energy prices will help him do it, and he knows it.

I tried to watch the video. Had to stop it less than two minutes in. Sheesh, Kate; take a breath. I thought reading run-on sentences was bad. She was speaking non-stop run-on sentences.
I understand why she chose acting. She needs someone to write down what she's supposed to say so she doesn't sound, well, like she sounded here.
Ooooo. Kate used that really big word, "fallacious." She worked really hard to get that one in there, too.
DR KATE...

The criticism of Dr Kate is fallacious. Damn it, she's a doctor!
And, I have it on good authority that the night before, she stayed at a Holiday Inn....

Then Walsh's hero Obama must have been seriously misinformed when he gave Brazil $2 billion to conduct offshore drilling. Maybe she missed that story ;+}

No offense, but when a Hollywood actress says that people who support off-shore drilling are "misinformed", it kind of catches me off guard. First of all, a typical Hollywood liberal would claim that those who support something counter to liberalism must be a Nazi, if not downright evil. Frankly, I'm surprised how restrained Ms. Walsh's comments are. Perhaps the insanity of Hollywood is beginning to make a turn towards, how should I say it, "less insanity."
Kate, honey, you know I love

Kate, honey, you know I love ya cuz yer pretty but I have to tell you, and I say this with love in my heart, you're kind of stupid. You don't honestly think you got your acting gig based on your intellect, do you? And your acting gig is the only reason anybody cares, at all, what you might have to say. You do know that, don't you sweetie?
Here, let me help you out: the question is not WHETHER there's going to be off-shore drilling, the question is, WHO is going to do the off-shore drilling. I assure you, dear Kate, that oil is not going to sit there untouched. It's just not. It's either going to be removed by an American company, earning all profit they're entitled to. Or it's going to be removed by a foreign company and they'll receive the profit. Now Kate honey, think hard for just a moment and ask yourself, "who do I have more control over with regard to safety and environmental precautions, an American company, or the Chinese?". If you are truly interested in protecting the environment, and I know just by looking at that near topless photo of you in More magazine that you truly do, then you should be insisting that American oil companies get there before the Cubans, Venezuelans and the Chinese.
