Dem Ed Rendell on PA Losses: 'Voters Don’t Always Vote On Logical Reasons'

By Nicholas Ballasy | November 23, 2010 | 19:51

A  A

Governor Ed Rendell (D-Pa.) said that Pennsylvania Democrats lost key House and Senate races in the midterm election because “voters don’t always vote on logical reasons,” adding that Democrats “understand” the reason for voters’ “anger” and “it’s pretty hard to quarrel with.” His comments were made while participating in a conference call sponsored by the Center for American Progress (CAP) about the need for Congress to extend unemployment benefits.

CNSNews.com asked Rendell, “Since many of these issues are likely to come up in the next Congress, I’m interested to hear why you think so many key races in the House and Senate were lost by Pennsylvania Democrats this past election?”

Rendell responded, “Well, because people don’t always vote on logical reasons. Emotion drives voters particularly when they have reason to be angry and frustrated. If you lost your job or lost your house or lost your 401k, you had every reason to be angry and frustrated and when you are, you have a tendency to blame the people who are in office and that’s true whether it’s a Republican incumbent or a Democratic incumbent.”

He continued, “In Pennsylvania, most of our incumbents were Democrats; we control the Congressional delegation 13 to 6 and a number of those were Democratic pickups in districts that were Republican registration and so it’s very difficult to hold in the atmosphere that exists today and again, although it’s frustrating to us as Democrats who believe in the things we’re doing, we understand the reason for that anger and it’s pretty hard to quarrel with.”

Pennsylvania Democrats lost

Submitted by motherbelt on Tue, 11/23/2010 - 9:15pm.

Pennsylvania Democrats lost key House and Senate races in the midterm election because “voters don’t always vote on logical reasons,”   Let's see, where have we heard that before???

Oh Yeah....from Dear Leader:

"People out there are still hurting very badly, and they are still scared. And so part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now, and facts and science and argument does not seem to be winning the day all the time, is because we're hard-wired not to always think clearly when we're scared,"
Nice to see you're singing from the same page...

Where does the anger come from?

Submitted by KC Mulville on Tue, 11/23/2010 - 9:24pm.

The party ling argument is that people are just scared because the economy's bad. Take a look at this video. Remember when this was going on all across the country, against  the Democrats? Remember that the Democrats had to stop going to town halls because voters were demanding they read the bills and, well, do their jobs?

That anger isn't "misplaced anxiety" from voters who can't see things logically. This anger isn't a flaw in the people. This is a direct reaction to Democrat arrogance and stupidity.

You're right, KC...it comes

Submitted by motherbelt on Tue, 11/23/2010 - 10:10pm.

You're right, KC...it comes as a response to Specter, and to Charlie Rangel telling Jason Mattera "Why don't you mind your g-d business!" and Rep.  Etheridge manhandling a questioner, and all the other acts of arrogance from these elites who think we have some nerve questioning our betters!

This guy Rendell is so

Submitted by Barack_must_go..... on Wed, 11/24/2010 - 10:34am.

This guy Rendell is so blindingly partisan even if he had personally  witnessed one of Obama's infamous, private orgies at the White House with the likes of Jeff Imelt, George Soros, Andy Stern, and various MSNBC, WaPo and NY Times reporters and he'd still blame the American people for the utter failure that is the Obama Socialist regime along with the democrat party of today.

More sour grapes from Democrats

Earth to Fast Eddie:

You Democrats lost big time because of your arrogance!  You guys are nothing more than crybaby sore losers!  Between Ears, Mrs. Pelosi, Dingy Harry, Gaffe Master Biden and you, the Democratic Party has become a big bad joke.   And if you think 2010 was bad, wait until 2012...
