Daily Kos Week in Review: Dancing on the (Debt) Ceiling

August 7th, 2011 9:56 PM

John Boehner said he got 98 percent of what he wanted from the debt deal. That sounds about right, since Kossacks apparently got roughly two percent of what they wanted, judging from their rage-filled blasts this past week at Republicans, conservatives, the Tea Party, and businessmen.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Kos: You could call Republicans terrorists...

...Washington is filled with idiots: Republicans who have embraced the role of economic terrorists, and Democrats who enable them...

Kaili Joy Gray: ...but it would be an understatement

...Republicans openly, blatantly, unapologetically threatened to crash the economy unless they got every single petulant demand met, no matter how unreasonable or harmful to the American people they pretend they care about. You know what? "Terrorist" is a polite word for what these people are...

Jon Stafford: Boehner, Cantor, et al are like ayatollahs...

...I seriously believe [Republicans] want an economic catastrophe, both because it would boost their chances to reclaim the White House (to which they believe only they are entitled), and because they think that in the ensuing chaos they can recreate the country in their image. Think Iran without the whimsy...

Mumon: ...who are worse than Communists

...[T]he Republican Party wishes to seize control of the mechanism of government with one goal in mind: to dismantle the effectiveness of government.  Infectious viruses seize control of the machinery of the cell in order to propagate the virus and destroy the cell.  One could say that tea-party conservative Republican ideas are infectious memes...

Since it has been  Republicans, with their policies, who wish to turn the United States into the Guatemala or El Salvador of the 1980s - whose murderous right-wing regimes they enthusiastically backed, I would say that it is time for a call for all good people to say it loud and often: the Republican Party of today is a threat to the Republic.

Much worse a threat than the Communists in the US ever were.

Hunter: Conservatism has gone from bad to worse

...[I]t's sure been a long time since I heard the phrase "compassionate conservatism." Now it's all about hurting people so that the rich can collect even more of that cash.

Danish Brethren: The Tea Party descends from barbarians

...Tea Party Jihadists...set out with the expressed intention of forcing a default of our government plunging not only the country, but the entire world into chaos and darkness. We used to call them Visigoths or in the ordinary man's vernacular, "Barbarians" and terrorists. Today we call them Republican freshman House members mostly.

Let there be no doubt, ever since this group of right wing nuts started up and began to gather, spitting on progressive members of our Black Caucus as they attempted to make their way to the floor to vote on Health Care reform, they have not only been threatening to destroy this great experiment in government that we called American Democracy, but actively attempting to do so...

...The Vandals were notorious for smashing the ceramic tiles out from a large mosaic in the center of Rome while they sacked that city in order to get at a naked woman trapped inside the image. They had no interest in construction, buildings or other aspects of civilization like literature, music or the arts. You might think of that culture as much like present day Republicanism in America...

Lefty Ninja: Murdering the rich would be futile

...The current economic system is unsustainable.  However, we have passed the point at which anything but a violent leftist revolution will solve anything.  That's not going to happen in America, period.  Americans as a whole are shockingly ignorant about what is actually left-wing and what is simply humane...

We need a sane philosophy with regard to corporate profits. As things stand now, killing off a bunch of CEOs will solve exactly nothing about the way business operates in this country. Killing off the investor class will just ensure that their investments get handed down to their entitled asshole descendants...
