Daily Kos Week in Review: Pursuing the Murdoch Monster

July 17th, 2011 9:16 PM

While Kossack bloggers certainly didn't neglect the debt-limit talks, they also pounced on the week's other developing mega-story, the News Corp. phone-hacking scandal, no doubt with visions of a Rupert Murdoch perp walk dancing in their heads.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Vyan: Murdoch's 'criminal enterprise' is crumbling

...With the current head of the Murdoch's Wall Street Journal caught directly in this scandal - it won't be long before they start shedding those assets as well, and yes, Fox News too - as it's been obvious for a long time they are a Criminal Enterprise just like the rest of his media empire. Possibly one of the worst since Murdoch didn't buy them as an existing enterprise - He built it from the Ground Up, which means the rot has always been part of it's core...

Hunter: Only liberal media conglomerates allowed

...Regardless of whether the allegations of wrongdoing headed by Murdoch himself turn out to be true (and I think we all have, ahem, our suspicions on that one), a rather more alarming question is why we continue to allow single media companies to have enough power to single-handedly bend the news to their will...

Mark Sumner: Republican leaders are like Jack the Ripper...

There is no fiscal crisis. Everyone should be clear on that.

...There is nothing wrong.

Nothing except that the Republican Party is prepared to slice the nation's throat to get its way...

JBtakenote: ...and the rank and file are 'cult-like automotons' [sic]

...[Republicans'] manufactured debt-ceiling crisis...plays to the cult-like automotons in their base (that's what 30 years of having your own propagandists, your own news outlets, your own schools, your own churches, and coordinated messaging will do for you)...

Ray Pensador: Give GOP neo-fascists credit for ingenuity

...The extreme Right set the stage to create a crisis environment that would put the middle class enabling infrastructure in jeopardy, and then with incredible chutzpah, they manipulated a naive president into doing their bidding.

These people (the extreme neo-fascist right wing) are brilliant!...

DarkSyde: Stomp Republicans while they're down...

Now is the time for Democrats to cripple the GOP and pre-sweep 2012. Opportunities like this come rarely. The Republican budget plan to kill Medicare is wildly unpopular. Americans overwhelmingly favor raising taxes on the super rich conservative creeps who fund the most reactionary wing, the nuttiest of the wingnuts, in the Republican Party...

...The leading wingnut primary contenders are a guy social conservatives consider a flip-flopping cult member and an unlectable flaked out harpy...

This is the time when Democrats, metaphorically, politically, stomp these assholes into the dirt and light the bloody mush on fire...

Troubadour: ...and before they become more violent and crazy

...Call it the vestigial shadow of patriotism (or at least overriding cowardice), but for all [Republicans'] Satanic fetishes they still haven't found the iron within themselves to exercise power in the ways their international counterparts often do...

...That's the whole point of their chipping away at the legal system, taking away Americans' access to recourse against injustice - outside of law, everything is decided either by money or violence, and they would overwhelmingly dominate both.  Republicans can't wait until they can act like their Russian, Mexican, or Brazilian oligarch counterparts - it's their version of the American Dream, to no longer be anything resembling Americans.

But right now, they're still afraid.  Right now, their organized crime has become disorganized. Right now, the psycho teabagger brownshirts who may some day be massacring people in the streets at the urging of Rwanda-style media still believe they can subjugate this country while maintaining a veneer of legitimacy...

Rest assured, their doubled-down fury and destructive resurgence is guaranteed to happen eventually.  They want what they cannot have, and could not have even if every man, woman, and child in America were their willing slaves - they want things that don't even make logical sense in our universe, and would strain even the credulity of a Lewis Carroll character...
