Actor Kirk Cameron stars in a new video for the National Organization for Marriage in which he maintains marriage is between a man and a woman: “The same God that designed the universe designed marriage.”
The gay left is angry. The so-called Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation attacked Cameron with this pretend want ad: “Seeking Glamorous Non-Cognitive Elites: Are you an artist, athlete, writer, beauty queen or other non-intellectual glamorous celebrity? Help wanted ASAP!”
GLAAD was mocking a confidential NOM strategy document that was presented to a court in Maine which explained the potential of celebrity endorsers: “the disproportionate potential impact of proactively seeking to gather and connect a community of artists, athletes, writers, beauty queens and other glamorous non-cognitive elites across national boundaries.”
That may be inartful, but certainly, gay activists like GLAAD are not exactly shy about pushing celebrities in their promotional campaigns, knowing that their fame and glamour may be more persuasive than the language that they use.
This is the kind of speech that somehow qualifies as “defamation” in the NOM video:
"If we want a great future in this world, we have to take God at his word and God makes it really clear that society and civilization is held together by the glue of families. This is where the next generation of human beings are incubated and nurtured and matured -- in homes, in families,” Cameron says.
“We want that to be a place of health and happiness, a place of joy and forgiveness. it needs to be a home filled with faith. And in order to have that kind of a home, marriages need to be strong... And so when a man and a woman come together and they say I do, they are committing for a lifetime to love each other, and to model what love is."
