ABC News Boss: Heck No to Couric as Evening News Sub

Deadline.com reports ABC News president Ben Sherwood gave a heck-no answer to the Television Critics Association on whether Katie Couric would do any fill-in work anchoring on ABC in the evening. “You’ll see her showcased in all kinds of different ways, but she’s done the anchoring thing in the evening,” he said.

“You’ll see her in the morning. You’ll see her all over the place.” After the TCA session, Sherwood went on defense about Couric’s demise in the CBS Evening News anchor chair. “I don’t think the viewers have rejected her,” he said. “It’s not about rejection. It’s about what she wants to do.”

Deadline also asked if George Stephanopoulos is being "spread too thin" with the GMA gig and the "This Week" gig. “George Stephanopoulos is a machine,” Sherwood said. “Left to his own devices, he would work seven days a week, nonstop. He is totally fired up by this challenge on Sunday morning. We are going to be very wise about making sure we don’t push it too far.”

Stephanopoulos is a political machine. The more control he can exercise over ABC's morning political spin, the more he'll assert.
