Daily Kos: Hope Osama's Ghost Haunts Cheney's House

May 4th, 2011 7:53 AM

Even the radical leftists at the Daily Kos like Barack Obama enough to offer him credit for the takedown of Osama bin Laden. In his regular "Cheers and Jeers" feature, "Bill in Portland Maine" is forwarding his usual "boogers of change," cheering Obama and then moving on to the hope that Osama's ghost haunts Dick Cheney's house:

CHEERS to boffo reviews.  "Classic."  "Brilliant."  "Textbook operation."  "Clean hit."  "Deftly handled."  "One for the books."  Those are some of the terms used to describe "Operation Geronimo," which sent Osama bin Laden into the hereafter, thanks to Navy SEALs given the green light by President Obama.

I kinda hope Osama's spirit somehow ends up getting stuck in Cheney's house, where he spends his time as a really clumsy ghost who keeps knocking over lamps and playing piano with his butt.  That'd be like hell for all of them, and thus a satisfying coda to the saga.

But beyond the whooping and flag-waving, there's the stark reminder that OBL wasn't really in charge of much anymore (as evidenced by the fresh shuffleboard scores on his patio chalkboard and New York Times crosswords piled up next to the cat's litter box.)  There are still lots of lunatics out there, and as Chris Matthews said last night on Hardball: "You can’t just kill terrorists, you have to kill the reason they want to be terrorists."  Great---so when do we leave Iraq and Afghanistan?

That might leave the impression that Matthews disapprove of the Osama takedown, which he in fact celebrated. But Scott Whitlock took down what Matthews said that Bill was quoting:

MATTHEWS: You know, I keep thinking about this, the -- the kid, the guy who`s 20 years old now as a terrorist, thug or brainpower behind it or whatever, 10 years ago was a 10-year-old kid.

TYLER DRUMHELLER: Yes.

MATTHEWS: And 9/11 was 10 years ago. You know, I keep saying to people, you can`t kill all terrorists. You have to kill the reason they want to be terrorists, is a big part of this.

DRUMHELLER: That`s right. And I think the big issue now in the Middle East is, for a while, after 9/11, bin Laden represented the poor people of the Middle East railing against these corrupt regimes...

MATTHEWS: Who hated their parents.

DRUMHELLER: And hated their parents, right.

MATTHEWS: Right.

DRUMHELLER: Now these people are in demonstrations against the dictators...

MATTHEWS: Oh, I agree. I root for them.

Earth to Chris: What if the "reason they want to be terrorists" is because they hate the United States and all its disgusting Christianity? (See the 75 percent approval rating for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.) Should that be reason be "killed"?

PS: Bill also celebrated hard-left folksinger Pete Seeger's 92nd birthday with this utterly typical PBS clip.
