Daily Kos Enters Keith Olbermann's Twilight Zone

September 13th, 2006 10:39 AM

Keith Olbermann used the solemn occasion of the fifth anniversary of 9/11 to launch a no-holds-barred political attack on President Bush, as you can see in this September 11 Countdown video. Olbermann also added to the poor taste of his bad timing with this quote from an episode of the Twilight Zone called The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street:

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts... attitudes... prejudices. To be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and the thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to The Twilight Zone.

Sorry, Keith, but the former World Trade Center, in the background of your ratings plea disguised as a Countdown report, is NOT the quiet suburban Maple Street. It is the scene of a REAL attack by REAL terrorists. They used airplanes filled with living people as bombs. It wasn't prejudices and suspicions on our part, as suggested by Olbermann, that destroyed the World Trade Center. However, this has not kept the leftwing blogosphere in general and The Daily Kos in particular from buying into Keith Olbermann's completely misplaced Twilight Zone analogy. As if to prove that they live in an alternate reality Twilight Zone, the Daily Kos Kossacks not only bought into Olbermann's poor taste The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street analogy but have added other Twilight Zone episodes in their attempts to attack Bush and Republicans in a thread titled, Are We Stuck In The Twilight Zone?. The extreme twisting of those episodes to attack the right would be funny if it were not so pathetic. One example of this thematic pretzel twisting is It's A Good Life episode of the Twilight Zone:

This story has been seen as a metaphor for political leaders who rule out of ignorance & can't stand to be told that they're wrong, and the people who acquiesce to their wishes...

Of course, a pic of the monster kid is placed next to that of George W. Bush right over this "observation." You can see even more of the Daily Kos extremely stretched Twilight Zone fantasies at the DUmmie FUnnies.

Update 11:06 by Matthew Sheffield. Olbermann Watch has a great smackdown of the many factual errors in the MSNBC anchor's latest attempt at rational thought.
