Al Gore on Friday called MSNBC's Chris Hayes "this generation's Edward R. Murrow":

Why was Hayes bestowed such an "honor" Friday?

Because he spent an hour talking about how a naturally occurring, vital to life gas known as carbon dioxide is destroying the planet.

As such, and not surprisingly, in Gore's view, a man presenting junk science on television is the new Edward R. Murrow.

Just how poor was the "science" Hayes presented?

To begin with, like so many of his colleagues in the media, he failed to actually explain what the theory of anthropogenic global warming is.

For instance, when did this so-called warming start, how much hotter has it gotten, and how much has atmospheric carbon dioxide actually risen during that period?

Hayes did mention that we currently have about 400 parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere.

However, he failed to inform his viewers that roughly three percent of that 400 ppm is manmade. The rest is naturally produced.

As AGW theory maintains that global temperatures have risen by about 3/4 of a degree Celsius since 1850, and CO2 levels then were about 285 ppm, this means that 103 ppm of the 115 ppm increase - or roughly 90 percent - were naturally produced.

Even without man's contribution to CO2 in the past 163 years, there would still be 388 ppm in the atmosphere.

Not surprisingly, this didn't come up Friday.

Nor did the fact that there have been periods in this planet's 4.5 billion year history when CO2 was as high as 8,000 ppm and ice ages when such levels were far higher than they are today.

In fact, put in its proper historical context, atmospheric CO2 levels are actually very low right now.

Not surprisingly, this didn't come up Friday either.

And how would it? Not one scientist skeptical of the AGW theory was invited on the program.

Instead, Hayes trotted out alarmist after alarmist to make the case that America has to immediately wean itself of all fossil fuels or we're doomed.

For this Gore believes Hayes is Edward R. Murrow.

Fortunately, precious few people likely saw Hayes's one-sided discussion on AGW.

What Gore fails to realize is his new Edward R. Murrow has one of the least-watched shows on cable news, and is regularly blamed for MSNBC's tanking ratings.

Some Edward R. Murrow, huh?
