Lindsay Lohan appeared on the CBS Late Show Tuesday and besides being rather contrite was also willing to joke about her problems as well as her next stint in rehab.

At one point she took a drink out of host David Letterman’s coffee mug and said, “I thought this was going to be vodka.”

Toward the end of the interview, Letterman asked her if she was going to make the scheduled May 2 appointment at rehab and who was going to take her.

“Jimmy Fallon,” she joked. “And you.”

“Jimmy and I will drive her to rehab,” Letterman responded before laughing.

“And Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels,” Lohan added. After a pause, she said, “I don't want people to think I'm making a joke of that. I'm not.”

“You shouldn’t make a joke of that because this could be good for you,” Letterman replied. “It will be good for you.”

“It will,” she agreed. “It's not like a joking matter."

“What in life can't we make light of, honestly?” Letterman asked.

“No, I'm fine with making light of myself,” answered Lohan.

“We never thought we'd see you again honestly, you know, because of the jokes and stuff,” Letterman continued, “but yet you have enough spine, enough sense of yourself, enough poise to come out here and talk to me.”

That evoked applause from the crowd bringing a tear to Lohan’s eye.

At that point, Lohan grabbed Letterman’s coffee mug, took a drink, and said, “Oh, I thought this was going to be vodka.”

“Oh,” said Letterman with a smile as Lohan laughed.

“Shucks,” she added as she snapped her fingers.

After the laughter died down, Letterman said, “You gotta stop drinking. They don't let you drink in rehab.”

“It was a joke!” she replied.

“I know,” Letterman said.

As the two of them laughed together, Lohan said, “I love seeing you.”

“I love seeing you,” he replied. “Honestly.” Then Letterman pointed out the tears in her eyes. “Oh, she’s tearing up a little. God bless you.”

Someone from the crowd yelled, “We love you Lindsay.”

She turned to the audience and said choked up, “I love you, too.”

“There you go,” added Letterman.
