Nina Totenberg: 'Conservatives Want To Take a Knife To Hillary Clinton's Throat'

February 2nd, 2013 12:51 PM

Remember all that talk about civility in political discourse after the shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords?

NPR's Nina Totenberg apparently doesn't, for on PBS's Inside Washington Friday, she said of Hillary Clinton, "Any time conservatives can they want to take a knife to her throat" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

NINA TOTENBERG, NPR: I want to say a word about Hillary Clinton. Every time, you see how great her presence has really been, what a successful Secretary of State she’s been, by the fact that any time conservatives can they want to take a knife to her throat. And guess what? She always turns it back on them. She has really emerged into an incredible force. I don’t know what she does with it. I hope she does what’s best for her and for us.

I understand why liberal media members are so in love with Hillary Clinton. I really do.

However, can any of them explain what she accomplished as Secretary of State to be worthy of such praise?

With the exception of the assassination of Osama bin Laden, what are the foreign policy accomplishments of the Obama administration?

There have been eight U.S. embassies/consulates attacked in the last four years with one involving the murder of our Libyan ambassador.

Iran is far closer to a nuclear weapon than it was prior to January 2009, and Israel is closer to attacking it than ever before.

Egypt is in turmoil, as are Libya and Syria.

Al Qaeda is on the rise throughout Northern Africa.

Our relations with Russia are likely the worst they've been since the end of the Cold War.

Yet Totenberg and virtually all media members view Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State as being hugely successful.

Based on what? Her simply being a female Democrat?
