David Gregory: 'You Could Have a Permanent Democratic Majority'

November 21st, 2012 4:57 PM

NBC's David Gregory put forth on national television Tuesday every liberal media member's fantasy.

Appearing on the Tonight Show, the Meet the Press host said, "You could have a kind of permanent Democratic majority" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

JAY LENO, HOST: Hillary in 2016? What do you think?

DAVID GREGORY: You know, if you look at how President Obama won his re-election -- younger voters, women, African-Americans, Hispanics -- that coalition could be right there for Hillary Clinton.

LENO: Yeah.

GREGORY: I mean, she could be the first woman president, and that coalition could be there, and you could have a kind of permanent Democratic majority. So I'm sure if she looks at this now, that's a compelling argument for her to move forward. If she does, she has a silencing effect on anybody else in the party who may want to challenge her.

LENO: Hillary versus Chris Christie? What do you think?

GREGORY: I think Chris Christie, or it could be Jeb Bush.

LENO: A Bush-Clinton matchup there.

GREGORY: Right. And you could see Paul Ryan come back. What’s going to happen on the Republican side is pretty interesting.

LENO: Nah, that’s not going to happen.

GREGORY: You don’t think so?

LENO: Nah, that’s not going to happen.

If you recall, a lot of people on the left were saying this after Obama's victory in 2008 just two years before Republicans won an historic victory in the 2010 midterm elections.

As such, I'm reminded of the Jimi Hendrix classic, "Still Raining, Still Dreaming."
