'Homeland' Star Makes Muslim Joke To Obama

After what Damian Lewis inscribed on Barack Obama's DVD box set of Showtime's hit series Homeland, the President might no longer be such a fan of the show.

On the British program The Jonathan Ross Show Saturday, the Emmy-winner said he wrote a Muslim joke to Obama on the gift (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Lewis told Ross that the program "became an even bigger hit when the President said it's his favorite show."

As a result, he was invited to the White House for dinner getting seated at the same table as Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

At the end of the evening, Teamsters for Obama asked him to sign a box set of Homeland DVDs to give to the President.

"[Co-star] Claire Danes had written something really lovely and sweet saying, 'I was a fan of yours long before you were a fan of ours,'" Lewis said. "I thought, 'That's really stylish.'"

So he needed to "think of something really great, something classy" himself, and finally settled on, "'From one Muslim to another,' in an indelible Sharpie. I couldn't take it back."

"I was then writing emails for the whole of the next week going, 'I do hope he understands irony," Lewis humorously added.

For those not getting the joke, on the program, Lewis plays Nicholas Brody, a Marine Sergeant that was rescued by Delta Force after being held by al Qaeda as a prisoner of war for eight years. He's now a devout Muslim.
