Star Wars's Mark Hamill: Obama Is Obi-Wan Kenobi

October 11th, 2012 10:51 AM

After Barack Obama's absolutely horrible performance in last week's presidential debate, would you compare him to the famed "Star Wars" character Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Luke Skywalker aka Mark Hamill actually did on Current's Young Turks Wednesday (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CENK UYGUR: So, let’s have a little fun here with "Star Wars." I'm going to name you a politician, and you tell me which character in “Star Wars" they might be. We’re going to start out incredibly easy. Dick Cheney.

MARK HAMILL: Well, of course, I don’t think it's fair to compare Dick Cheney to Darth Vader – it’s unfair to Vader, because Vader was redeemed, he saw the evil of his ways and redeemed himself. So far that hasn’t happened with the former Vice President.

UYGUR: Alright, now, that one was fairly easy. We thought he was Vader as well. So we had that ready to go. Now I'm going to give you a tough one. Joe Biden.

HAMILL: Oh, Joe Biden, probably Uncle Owen.

UYGUR: I don't even remember Uncle Owen.

HAMILL: Uncle Owen who was my surrogate father when you first saw me on the farm. He was supportive, he was a little bit surly, but certainly somebody that you felt comfortable with and was very supportive.

UYGUR: Well that's funny because we went with Chewbacca actually because he's enthusiastic, passionate, and he runs his mouth. He’s a loyal sidekick.

HAMILL: Okay, gotcha. Everybody loves a Wookie, and I mean, I don’t know, again, I'm not talking with the people from NewsBusters, but everybody loves Joe Biden. I know I do.

That was the second time Hamill mentioned NewsBusters to Uygur. It appears our articles about him have gotten under his skin. Good!

UYGUR: Alright, how about Obama?

HAMILL: Well he's very wise. He’s got a sort of probably a cross between Obi Wan and Yoda. Gosh. I so revere him I’m going to have to with the Sir Alec Guinness character Obi Wan.

UYGUR: Well, you know, I respect him as well, so we decided he was actually Luke Skywalker.

HAMILL: Oh my gosh. No, no, no, no. Way out of my league.

UYGUR: Well, the guy whose team was going to heal the planets, right?

HAMILL: That's right, and which is mocked by the right side. What’s so terrible healing the planet?

UYGUR: It would be great if we healed the planet. It would be terrific.

Healed the planet? At this point he better heal himself or he's going to be heading back to Chicago in January.
