49er David Akers Kicks NFL Record-Tying 63-Yard Field Goal

The San Francisco 49ers ended the first half of their game against the Packers in Green Bay Sunday with a record-tying 63-yard field goal by David Akers.

Kicking from the 49ers' 47 yard line, Akers drilled a ball that hit the crossbar of the goal post and bounced over.

Akers tied the mark initially set by New Orleans Saints' kicker Tom Dempsey in 1970. Denver Broncos' kicker Jason Elam tied it in October 1998 as did the Raiders' Sebastian Janikowski in September 2011.

The 49er kicker looked absolutely shocked by the result as he was surrounded by his exultant teammates.

The kick gave the Niners a 16 to 7 lead at halftime.

For those unfamiliar with Akers, he is a highly-religious man.

The bio at his Twitter account reads, "I have been blessed to play in the NFL for 13 years. I believe God put me on this platform to do His will... To glorify His kingdom by serving one another."

He also has a Facebook page David Akers Ministries.
