MSNBC's "Morning Joe" spent a good deal of time Tuesday discussing Teamsters president James Hoffa Jr.'s disgraceful Labor Day comments about the Tea Party and his political rivals.
After playing a clip of Hoffa's remarks as well as President Obama calling for civility months ago, Scarborough pointed out, "There seems to be a rule here which is don’t say really mean things that coarsen the debate, could encourage violence, unless you’re a Democrat...If you support [Obama], you can say, 'We’re going to take people out'" (video follows with partial transcript and commentary):
JOE SCARBOROUGH: It just seems though, John Heilemann, there seems to be a rule here which is don’t say really mean things that coarsen the debate, could encourage violence, unless you’re a Democrat and then it’s okay.
JOHN HEILEMANN, NEW YORK MAGAZINE: Unless it drives up…
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Take them out line was bad.
SCARBOROUGH: If you support me, you can say, “We’re going to take people out.”
HEILEMANN: Unless there’s a chance that it will drive up Democratic turnout in 2012, in which case, you know, we have to make an exception for that, too.
SCARBOROUGH: There’s an exception.
BRZEZINSKI: Okay, alright, but the bigger picture is jobs, right? Right?
BRZEZINSKI: Well, that was the language I think was…
HEILEMANN: Take those sons of b---ches out. That’s, you know, hard to really justify that.
BRZEZINSKI: No, there aren’t a lot of, there, there aren’t a lot of interpretations.
No, there aren't.
Kudos to "Morning Joe" for exposing the President's hypocrisy.
