Bret Baier Quotes NewsBusters Sheppard on Chris Matthews Applauding Hurricane Sandy

As NewsBusters previously reported, MSNBC's Chris Matthews, in response to Barack Obama's re-election victory, said Tuesday, "I'm so glad we had that storm last week."

Fox News's Bret Baier covered Matthews' pathetic comment on Special Report Wednesday while quoting NewsBusters associate editor Noel Sheppard (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BRET BAIER: Hardball anchor Chris Matthews’ closing thoughts from election night - well, they were a little unusual. He was as usual praising President Obama and the people who re-elected him. And then he said this: "I'm so glad we had that storm last week because I think the storm was one of those things. No, politically I should say, not in terms of hurting people. The storm brought in possibilities for good politics.”

NewsBusters’ Noel Sheppard writes: “Sandy will go down as one of the worst storms to ever hit America. Millions are still without power and are battling freezing temperatures. The lives of tens of thousands of our citizens might never be the same, but to Chris Matthews, that’s okay because the object of his affection was re-elected.”

Matthews apologized on tonight's program for two minutes saying in part: “I said something not just stupid but wrong. I said something that suggested ends justify means, something I have never believed in my life, and even thinking that way I think is an immoral way to live your life.”

Something else interesting about Matthews' apology was that it led one to think he reads NewsBusters.

"I said something not just stupid but wrong," he acknowledged Wednesday. "I said something that suggested ends justify means."

Sheppard began his commentary on this matter Wednesday, "This is the Machiavellian mind of a liberal media member today."

Coincidence?

Maybe, but after Obama's atrocious performance in the first presidential debate last month, Matthews encouraged the object of his affection to watch MSNBC to better understand liberal talking points.

It certainly seems possible the Hardball host is following his own advice by monitoring the only website in the nation consistently holding his feet to the fire.
