'Just Shut Up': Scarborough Shouts Down RNC Chairman's Words On Weiner

June 13th, 2011 7:43 AM

When on today's Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski tried to report the comments of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus on Weinergate, Joe Scarborough shut her down and shut the comments out.  "It's just stupid.  Just shut up," said Scarborough of Priebus.

Joe's point was that both parties hypocritically seek to exploit sex scandals in which their opponents become involved.  But Morning Joe had already aired the comments of several Dems [and one Republican, Paul Ryan], including DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz . Didn't fairness call for giving Wasserman-Schultz's counterpart his due, then criticizing him if that's what Scarborough wanted to do?

Chalk Scarborough's outburst to the same kind of grandstanding that led Morning Joe to entirely black out any first half-hour mention of the scandal the morning after Weiner's epic news conference admitting his actions and lies.

Watch Scarborough decide he wouldn't tolerate airing of the comments of the RNC Chairman.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: So in a heated debate on Meet The Press, the heads of the Republican and Democratic parties argued over the handling of the Weiner scandal.  RNC Chair Reince Priebus accused the Democratic leadership of --

JOE SCARBOROUGH: -- OK, let's just not even go there. That's just so stupid.

BRZEZINSKI: Yeah, it was dumb of him, he should --

SCARBOROUGH: It's just stupid.  Seriously, just shut up.

BRZEZINSKI: He should just be quiet about this, honestly. Because unless he's going to do the same thing on -- it's wasting time.

SCARBOROUGH: Exactly. That's what I hate about the coverage of these scandals: how politicians jump up and down and party spokesmen jump up and down.  Whether they're trying to exploit Ensign or whether they're trying to exploit Weiner, whether they're trying to exploit Spitzer or whether they're trying to exploit Sanford. I mean, seriously --

BRZEZINSKI: -- This is for the Democratic party to deal with. It's obviously something sad, it's obviously going downhill.  Wouldn't you, if you were a Republican leader now, just back off and let that train keep going?

SCARBOROUGH: You would think, you would think so. But the fact is, it's not happened.  There was a stupid exchange over the weekend, especially when you had Nancy Pelosi, and Steny Hoyer --

BRZEZINSKI: All of them doing the right thing.

SCARBOROUGH: And Debbie Wasserman, all of them saying. Anyway.

Note: In a subsequent discussion of the media's Palin email witch-hunt, Scarborough did observe that the episode proved just how biased against Palin the MSM is.
