Open Thread: Sweet Sixteen
Today's starter topic is of the non-political variety: the Sweet 16 men's NCAA basketball play starts tomorrow. What are your predictions for that round of the tournament play?
In political news, Mitt Romney won yesterday's Illinois primary. The congressional committee charged with estimating tax revenues asserted that the so-called "Buffett Rule" will do almost nothing to solve the deficits that President Obama has been racking up. Of course, this is something that conservatives have long said.

Is she a liberal congresswoman in the making or what?!? The only thing I can say is that she is way smarter than Sheila Jackson Lee or Maxine Waters. Unfortunately she be a "white girl" so she doesn't have a prayer unless she moves to CA or NY.
I certainly hope for the guy's sake that she can use her head for something besides actually thinking.

You know, I'm sure that girl's a real sweetheart, but when he said "think about the term miles per hour" and "you go 80 miles in an hour" and she virtually stomped her foot and said no to that, I thought "there ain't no way in hell that guy married her for her brains......"
Wow......just.....wow.
But then I realized, what the hell kind of guy is he that married her and posts a video of this nature to show the rest of the world how dumb his wife is? How dumb is that?

Anyone here a Glenn Beck listener?
Submitted by motherbelt on Wed, 03/21/2012 - 11:12am.
I generally don't listen, but I had the radio on right after the 10:00 news this am and he was on, talking to a Santorum supporter who did NOT like Romney, and he kept badgering her about "what she didn't like about him."
Every time she gave a reason for not liking Romney (the one I remember is that he was a "big government" guy), he kept insisting (paraphrasing) That's not it; I think there's another reason you don't like him, and he just wouldn't accept anything she said.
My point being that, and I admit I could be wrong, I think he was trying to get her to "admit" that she didn't like him because he's a Mormon.
Does anyone know if Beck is a Romney supporter, or is he pretty non-committal (at least publicly) about the Republican candidates?
This just seemed weird to me. And left the room right after that, so I don't know what he and his sidekick had to say about the caller afterward.
IIRC, Glen Beck is a Mormon

Yeah, I know Beck's a Mormon.
But why would he just assume that if someone doesn't like Romney, that's why? That's the way it seemed to me.
If he's just interested, like race-baiters, in painting everyone who doesn't like Romney as a bigot, then I have even less use for him than I had before.

Nomination had value — then came Mitt
...this guy wrote what I thought so...
Mitt Romney’s got this thing just about wrapped up, and yet how come nobody anywhere is excited?
He crushed Rick Santorum last night, and all anybody asks is, how much did Mitt outspend him by? Well, according to Politico, it was 7-1 in Illinois and 21-1 in the Chicago market.
Congratulations Mitt, you sure showed him.
Can anyone imagine what the mainstream media will do to Romney... Think of the video cuts they’ll be playing around the clock: the $10,000 bet with Perry, the “I like firing people,” the “Corporations are people,” the “Poor people will be taken care of.”
The sane people who voted for Obama are ripe for the picking,...
But you can’t tell the 2008 Obama voters how stupid they were. That’ll just get their backs up and convince them to vote for him again.
How will Mitt convince them? He’s won exactly one general election in his life — against Shannon O’Brien, in 2002. So Mitt’s got the nomination now. The only question is, with Mitt holding it, what exactly is it worth?
...let's keep hoping for that miracle Rmoney said Rick would need, I'll be praying for it for sure.

More NFL news:
Saints need a new head coach for 2012. Sean Payton has been suspended for a year following the bounty scandal. Their GM, Mickey Loomis, suspended for 6 months. The team is fined half a million and loses 2nd round picks for the next two years. Greg Williams, the D-coordinator who orchestrated the bounties- suspended indefinitely. He's currently the D-Co for the Rams.

I've been holding my say on what Elway has done to Timmy. I have tried to find a better word than a-hole to describe him. Roget's doesn't have one. I'll leave it at a sphincter muscle surrounded by a void for now. I fear that if Manning gets hit the wrong way he could be injured for the rest of his life. They are gambling 96 million on him over the next 5 years. Elway didn't like Timmy for one reason, that he is a Christian that doesn't hide his faith. I am hoping he goes to Jacksonville or Miami and the his first year there they play the Broncos in the playoffs. Timmy shines that day and the defense mops the field with Elway and his Broncos.

I did a real quick search and found this little gem, wasn't much to it, which was why it was easy to cut and paste. The US was just barely beginning little more than a visit from Columbus in 1492. These are the historical events of 1512:
Feb 5th - French troops under Gaston de Foix rescues Bologna
Feb 16th - Battle at Valeggio: French troops beat Venetianen
Feb 19th - French troops under Gaston de Foix occupy Brescia
Apr 10th - Pope Julius II opens 5th Council of Lateranen
Apr 11th - Battle at Ravenna: France under Gaston de Foix beat Spanish Army
May 3rd - 5th Lateran Council (18th ecumenical council) opens in Rome
May 3rd - Pope Julius II opens 5th Council of Lateranen
Aug 10th - Battle at Brest: English fleet beats France
Oct 19th - Martin Luther becomes a doctor of theology (Doctor in Biblia).
Oct 21st - Martin Luther joins the theological faculty of the University of Wittenberg.
Nov 1st - Michelangelo's paintings on ceiling of Sistine Chapel, 1st exhibited
Nov 7th - Medici's discharge Niccolo Machiavelli from Florence
Dec 27th - The Spanish Crown issues the Laws of Burgos, governing the conduct of settlers with regards to native Indians in the New World.
The above comes from a website called historyorb.com. If there's a better source, by all means cite it as the above includes "history" of things like James T Kirk being born in 2333.
