Today's topic is a bit of surprising news from the Washington Times: In the GOP presidential race, it seems that Rick Santorum is actually the one doing the best at attracting votes from Democrats. This goes against a lot of the conventional wisdom that candidates like Ron Paul or Mitt Romney might have greater crossover appeal:

The night’s key contest was Ohio, where Mr. Romney edged Mr. Santorum 38 percent to 37 percent, or about 12,000 votes out or nearly 1.2 million cast.

But Mr. Santorum benefited from his effort to get Democrats to take part in the Republican primary. Subtracting self-identified Democrats, Mr. Romney won by more than 22,000 votes, or better than 2 percentage points, according to a Times analysis of the networks’ exit polls.

That trend held true throughout the night.

In the three states where exit polling was able to break out Democratic voters, Mr. Santorum won 41 percent of them, compared with Mr. Romney, who won just 23 percent, despite being portrayed by Mr. Santorum and others in the field as the least-conservative potential nominee.

Is there something to this development or is the phenomenon merely mischevious liberals trying to extend the primary process similar to "Operation Chaos" in 2008?

The left is trying to do it

Submitted by ricklail on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 11:08am.

The left is trying to do it again. They voted for McLame knowing he couldn't beat Obama. So they are voting for Santorium for the same reason. He has no appeal to the Commiecrats. They don't want Rummy because he is a threat to Obama.

But Santorum is picking up a lot of Protestant Evangelical voters. If Santorum would be the GOP candidate you can expect to see attacks, mostly un-civil, some violent from the left. They see Santorum as their party stopper. That could back-fire on Obama. Especially if he does not back down from the Mandate, and there are no indications that this will happen. He is out to break the Church to his will.

You're spot on, ricklail

Submitted by Galvanic on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 11:51am.

That's exactly what they are doing. Santorum is painted as an extremist who will turn back women's rights 50 years. They will bombard him with social issue challenges in order to keep the focus off unemployment and the economy. He is the guy they prefer to run against over Romney and even Gingrich.

If the Dems can help Santorum win the GOP nomination, it makes Obama's job much easier.

Even if their efforts merely prolong the primary process, it will cause Santorum and Romney to spend more campaign $$$.

It's an inexpensive win-win situation for the Democrats.

Who said I'm against Santorum?

Submitted by Galvanic on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 4:56pm.

I'm telling you why the Democrats prefer him over Romney. The more conservative the GOP candidate, the easier it is for the Dems to paint Obama as the moderate. They'll settle for Romney because his nomination would take Obamacare completely off the table. But they prefer Santorum (they know Paul can't possibly win).

Being a conservative but not a Republican, there isn't a GOP candidate running now that I will vote for. McCain, Bush-43, and Dole were bad, too. I want to see OBama lose, but this GOP selection is looking real weak. I hope something shakes out at the GOP to beat Obama.

I haven't voted for a Democrat or a Republican since 1972, and that won't likely change in 2012. These two major parties have handed us a $15 trillion dollar debt, and that ain't anything to be proud about.

Submitted by Soldat44 on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 11:10am.

I truly believe that there are a great number of people out there who just want this Obama, socialist, anything-goes, church busting attitude to stop. I think we have reached a tipping point concerning the way the obviously, left-leaning media has hammered the GOP candidates. It was 'ok' for a while, but now they have crossed the line with this HHS Mandate and the vicious personal attacks on Rick Santorum and his family. Just my opinion.

I agree. We are in a very dangerous political era, a tipping point. If Obama does't get voted out in November, the constitutional republic which has been the light of the world all these years may not survive. More and more democrats are realizing this, I believe.

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 11:22am.

Panetta should have been arrested right then and there.  Impeachment charges should be drawn up against DuhOne.

What will happen:  NOTHING.

That's Congress for you.  They have abdicated their duties by their lack of action on their part even though they were required by law to take action in light of this damning statement.

That's all, folks, the United States is dead and we're just waiting for the jackals to come by and round up the gristle that are free Americans who still believe in the Constitution!

I'm pretty sure that the GOP establishment keeps the manly congresspeople (because there are women with bigger gonads than a lot of men) on the outside, in 'rookie' status............until they have proven that they will sell-out their reasons for coming to DC and become good little members of the second worse party in the country.

I guess I'm not surprised anymore by what comes out of the mouth of administration. They have been dropping bunkerbusters on the US Constitution since the day Obama, the lefty radical, was sworn in as POTUS. We need to put an end to this in Nov. And we will.

Forget it at this point

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 11:39am.

I'd say forget about it at this point and here's the reason why:  You said it yourself, the bogus potus and his ilk have dropped bunker busters on the Constitution, and yes, that's definitely a huge problem, which makes him a dictator.  But the bigger problem is that Congress is not taking any kind of action, not even symbolically.    An end is needed NOW, and we're not going to see it.

In fact, I would bet dollars to donuts at this point that we're not going to have any kind of election except in a symbolic sense in that DuhOne is declared the unanimous winner and becomes king for life.  Why do I think that?  Again because of what you said, the bunker busters on the Constitution.  And we've already heard from several Congressman saying that the Constitution doesn't matter even though they swore an oath to defend it and this country.  What's to stop DuhOne from doing anything else, he's got nothing to oppose him.

I have not seen ONE shred of proof that we're going to get to the election.  Unless Congress takes action as required...Nay, make that DEMANDED by the Constitution, nothing matters at this point because we're in a dictatorship now.  That's not pessimism speaking, that's just the cold hard facts.

Seems someone did a study on films and their success regarding certain values.

Faith Films win Box Office wars

This should be no surprise to us conservatives, how many liberal laden films have flopped at the box office but at the same time, movies that have more conservative values would make more money because people want to see them instead?

The above link lists a few examples and I think some of you might agree with them.

So take that, liberals.

Calling Mrs. Obama! Pink Slime Alert!!!

Submitted by motherbelt on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 1:15pm.

Government....yes, the OBAMA administration....buys 7 million pounds of "pink slime" for school lunch program!!

If you didn't see the Jamie Oliver series (I did) you HAVE TO WATCH THE VIDEO!!

Warning: Major Barf Alert!

I also saw what he showed a bunch of school kids about "chicken nuggets" yes, the vaunted  chicken nuggets that a teacher FORCED on a kid instead of a turkey sandwich!

Again, MBA!!

Scary part: the kids all raised their hands when asked if they would eat the finished product!  I think they thought that's what was expected of them.  So what do you think a kid will do when a TEACHER says "this is better for you"?

Anyway, back to the beef.....up to 15% of meat products used in schools can be this "pink slime."

It's so gross that McDonalds and Burger King...those eeevil  poisoners of children.....no longer use it.  But it's still in school lunches.

Money Quote:

Word of the USDA’s plan to purchase 7 million pounds (that’s 3,500 tons) of pink slime comes on the heels of the government’s release of its new guidelines for more healthful school lunches. First Lady Michelle Obama announced the new standards along with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on January 29, proclaiming:

First Lady Michelle Obama announced the new standards along with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on January 29, proclaiming:

"When we send our kids to school, we expect that they won’t be eating the kind of fatty, salty, sugary foods that we try to keep them from eating at home."

She’s right. Pink slime is available only for institutional sale. Kids will not be eating it at home.

Good grief

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 5:20pm.

What happened to the agent who did this?  I thought it was someone other than a teacher that did this, and if I remember right, they wouldn't fess up to that it was someone other than a teacher either.

Either way, it's still disturbing that it happened at all and they are trying to confuse the whole thing to make it look like a misunderstanding.

Submitted by killa37 on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 2:23pm.

I posted this yesterday on a thread that wasn't really the topic, but I was listening to Boy BlahBlah's 'answers' and statements yesterday with regards to oil, energy, gas, etc................and I also too notice of his statement that 'oil is the fuel of the pastl'.
I guess we'll be seeing him and Moooooooooooooochelle flying solar-powered Air Force One and Two, huh??? And his motorcade will be comprised of Volts, Prius', and other 'green vehicles' too, right??? Yeah.........................sure.

And the 'green energy' business is certainly climbing up the charts of success within the REGIME also, right??? Yeah...........
sure, unless you count big salaries and big kick-backs to the REGIME as 'success'.

And I read today that Boy Blight is lobbying Democrat Congressmen to 'get his back' on shutting down the Keystone Pipeline.

Can we do any WORSE than this guy??? I'd like somebody to give me ANY example of ANYTHING that this steaming pile of Kenyan Kow Krap has done to make this country a bettter place, or anything that he PROPOSES to do, either!!! I"ll be waiting to read some answers later on when I come home from work......................yes, I actually have a job!!! And it's private sector also!!
And I feel fortunate to have it - given the economic conditions these days.
