Open Thread: Super Tuesday
Today's real showdown in "Super Tuesday" was in Ohio where the poll results are still very close between Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney. Who do you think will win the state? Post your comments here about the race or the media coverage of it.

I'm not sure what the total numbers for turnout will be, but I didn't vote today for the first time since I was able to, in 1976. I know that the people working for Santorum and Gingrich dropped the ball, but I didn't like the state party changing the filing rules. I was also not able to do a write in vote.
Romney did win, but I drove by my polling place at noon and there was 3 cars there. I think those were the poll workers. There were no signs and no ads and I even missed those annoying robocalls. I'm not sure how much a "win" this is for Romney, other than the delegates.
I hope the left takes that as a lack of enthusiasm in Virginia. I had a pep talk with my wife and her family today. We will crawl across broken glass and metal shavings, on bloody stumps to vote for WHOEVER is running against the President.

I also vote in everything, but didn't even go to this one since I don't support either of these 2 in the primaries. A buddy was #179 at his polling place at 6:30pm. That's a terrible turnout for that particular precinct, even in a Primary.
I still have the occasional person who tells me they won't vote if it's Romney vs Obama, yet I think they will. And I make sure to tell them that that is simply a huge misunderstanding of the stakes. I tell them I my vote will be against Obama, not for Romney, period, but it WILL be a vote. I also ask them if they notice how powerful and activist the Supreme Court is, then make sure they understand that the next President could be replacing 2 or 3, and the Court is right now split right down the middle on MAJOR issues. Those next 2 or 3 will be good or will terrorize America for the next 25+ years. I tell them if they don't understand all the ins and outs of the dangers around Obama himself, vote to stop a runaway SCOTUS.

Very good point about SCOTUS, and I don't hear it enough. In all truth, we are voting to get rid of Obamacare and to keep the Supremes from becoming the Soviets.
I'm in Floyd County. For years we were solid red (not Commie Red). Within the last decade we've been invaded by northeastern, liberal, trust fund babies and retirees that have brought their voting habits (which ruined their home states) and are turning us. We went McCain last time, but it was closer than I'd have liked.
I'm with you on the vote. It won't necessarily be for the R, but it will be against the O.
I hear ya Phil

Nice out there in Floyd. McCain may have barely won, but 2008 was an odd election on many fronts.
Whoever is President must fight to repeal Obamacare. Romney says "I'll repeal it." BS, he needs to pick up a Constitution and realize he can't just repeal statutory law with his pen. We have someone now who thinks like that, we don't need another. He's no Obama (but who the heck is), but he needs to be schooled in things like that from those who know.
He can lead in the repeal effort, but he has no actual pen-to-paper authority whatsoever until it reaches his desk after getting through BOTH houses of Congress. Without both houses he simply says "oh well my hands are tied" and moves on, and down the road to serfdom we go. To lead the effort, he must have the mindset and realize it's importance.
For people who say they'll stay home, the SCOTUS piece is the easiest to get across. They can picture 1-2 Justices writing an opinion that could effect the rest of their lives. Obamacare is so big, so reaching, and not yet fully upon us, that people often can't wrap their arms around that and it may not motivate them. If you ask someone what about Obamacare they want repealed, many who call for its repeal couldn't actually tell you why............................just as many who "like" it, also can't tell you why, beyond "can't be denied coverage," "26 year old on parents policy," and "everyone can now be covered." Those are easy, big bullets, but it didn't take 2700 pages to just do those 3 things.

they won't vote if it's Romney vs Obama"
Why don't you believe them? In my area it's fully 30% of registered Republicans. I think they are dead serious and they detest Romney. They think he is a liar, little different than Obama. If Romney leads the ticket, this will KILL our congressional candidates.
The underlying issue more than anything is Obamacare. Most of these anti-Romney folks believe Romney is lying when he says he will repeal Obamacare. They base this upon his support for Romneycare. If Romney cannot change these attitudes, he will not win and he may take the whole party down with him.
I don't believe them....
Submitted by GregE on Wed, 03/07/2012 - 11:28pm.
..........because I remember how I felt in 2008 when McCain won. I said I wasn't going to vote for him, was going to vote for Bob Barr, then as the months passed, and Obama more revealed himself as the Marxist he is, I had to vote McCain. Some may not vote if Romney if he is the candidate, but that is a grave mistake that will hurt all of us. I believe Obama is one that people do not understand if they stay home.
Please don't overlook SCOTUS.

I have watched Santorum's lead shrink to under 1.5%, with 67% reporting.
Crap, and now it's tied.........78% reporting.
Ohio map looks like a Democrat / Republican matchup, where the Democrat wins 15% of the landmass and the Republican holds the entire rest of the state, yet it's tied. In this case, Santorum has 85% of the land mass.
I guess when you get more densely populated, you tend to be turn lib. :-)

They can't let the Conservatives go around ignoring the will of the GOP establishment now, can they? Even if Romney squeaks ahead, it's not a winner-take-all state, and after outspending Rick 12-to-1, that's a pretty bad performance.

Looking at the map, gonna make a prediction and hope I'm wrong. Romney will win. Currently 85% reporting, point-2% Santorum lead. Romney leading big in several high population counties that are not yet 70% reported. If their trend continues, Romney will pull ahead. Hope I'm dead wrong.
Few things-
Submitted by bkeyser on Wed, 03/07/2012 - 12:11am.
First, take a look at what's happened to Carbonite stock since they pulled their ads from Rush's show. According to the Daily Caller, where I first saw this, it's dropped 12%, or, 9-1/2 points over and above the NASDAQ losses during the same period.
Second, Britt Hume had an interesting analysis regarding a potential low turnout in Virgina. It touched partly on what Greg and Phil were discussing above -lot of Santorum and/or Newt supporters in the State- and thatRomney supporters would have no real reason to turn out since he was a lock for the win. THe mdeia will spin it as lack of enthusiasm, of course, but I think Britt is probably right. Today's turnout will have no bearing on November's.
Third, the Ohio vote has turned toward Romney as the Cleveland and Cinncinnati areas started reporting. It'll probably be close in the end and says a lot for Santorum given that it's likely most of the early voting was for Romney (before Santorum's rise in the polls) and the fact that Romney has outspent him there by several times, just as he did in Michigan. Clearly Romney running for President for 6 years has allowed him to outspend his competition by a long shot. That has to be playing a big role.

The person who beat Kookcinich is Marci Kaptur, another committed Leftist without Dennis' other worldly bent. She and Sherrod Brown are kindred spirits, so there really isn't any benefit to non-Leftist Ohioans. Joe The Plumber will be crushed in the general election. The ridiculous redistricted swath of land - from Cleveland to Toledo along the Lake Erie shore - is staunchly Democrat.
My rep Marcia Fudge (D-umb) is running unopposed. She has done nothing of worth since she replaced the deceased Stephanie Tubbs Jones. I can't win for losing when it comes to Congressional representatives.
My mother, a lifelong Democrat (old school), voted on the Republican ballot for the first time in her life.
In my county, voters have to feed their ballots into an optical scanner. The scanners are huge and look like an old standup Victrola. A nicely dressed 30-something woman asked which line to get into for the optical scanner. Figuring she was a Democrat - I do live in Democratville after all - I said one line was for Republicans and the other for Democrats, difference being the optical scanner for the Republicans was in reality a shredder. It took her a few seconds but then she laughed and said good. Had her pegged right.

Submitted by Blonde on Wed, 03/07/2012 - 1:36pm.
However, being the "glass half full" person that I am, let me point out the silver lining.
By dragging this thing out so long, and the "conservative alternative to Romney" still pulling half the votes or thereabouts, will ensure that Romney gets the message. I think he's finding himself in a Catch-22 over RomneyCare at this point. He should have disavowed it early on as a mistake, but he didn't, so now he's painted himself into a corner. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't eventually come out with "I was wrong, mea culpa".
I think he's going to be forced by the continued conservative support of Santorum and Gingrich to put a real conservative in the #2 spot, rather than a moderate like TPaws. It is my hope that we get Allen West. Who is the ONLY man for the job. Sorry Rick. I voted for you in the primary, but unless you get the nod, I'm one and done.
I do believe all of the candidates have agreed to support the eventual nominee. And I think the full slate of candidates backing Romney will go far to fix what's hurting right now. Also, they'll be credible surrogates.
Finally (and Romney's big appeal all along) is that he's attractive to the indies and the democrats who now loathe Obama.
Oh, second finally....his wife will be a fabulous First Lady. I saw her on Cavuto the other day, and as handsome and smart as Mitt is, the guy really outkicked his coverage. I'd vote for her in a heartbeat.

I think it'll be Romney, even though I prefer Santorum's integrity. Hopefully Mitt won't sell out.
I was listening to Beck while out earlier this morning and a caller from Mass was talking about Romney and how once he took the Governorship, he governed more conservatively than he campaigned. The thinking, I assume, is that a conservative couldn't be elected in Mass but that once in office, his conservative stripe -at least economically- surfaced for the betterment of the state. I didn't know it, but apparently he took over the "Big Dig" project and stopped the bleeding- even though there was nothing for him to gain politically and lots to lose. I also think he gets a bad rap on the number of liberal policies enacted under his leadership that were the result of veto over-rides. I guess he might have been able to put out some kind of executive statement abolishing those items, but we generally don't elect Caesars in the US.
RomneyCare is a problem. BUT, it's not as if his opponent is running to the right of him on that front. Essentially, Romney is 100x better than Obama on the issue in that he'll at least work to end it. Personally, I think the whole thing will come crashing down when SCOTUS gets ahold of it. If they strike down the mandate, Obama's not only in bigger trouble having his signature legislation deemed unconstitutional, they can't go at RomneyCare as "the same".
I know Dave's libertarian streak makes Romney seem really scary, but I also know he's not so far to the right that he'll accidentally slide into siding with Obama territory. Romeny is also not McCain; he's 99x better than that old fool. So, if the worst-case scenario unfolds for conservatives, it's still loads better than what's in place. And I'm pretty sure we'll be looking at a Romney/Some-Florida-Senator-or-Representative ticket. My guess is, Mitt won't ignore the vice of his VP the way Obama ignores Joe...
Okay, bad analogy. Mitt will surely find the advice of his VP valuable, and his VP will stand ready to hold his feet to the fire.

I suspect he'd LOVE to have Rubio as his #2, but I don't think Marco wants it. He might end up taking it, if offered, though.
I still prefer Allen West. Allen is a HARD CORE conservative, and is (as is his trademark signature) "steadfast and loyal". I think the conservative base would go even crazier than we did when McRino selected Sarah Palin.
West fills in Romney's lack of military experience, and even though Allen left as a relatively low ranking officer, trust me when I tell you, he knows ALL of the senior military players from the very informative lens of down the chain (I know you'll get what I'm saying). We need to sweep these Obama generals out of the Pentagon. I loathe political generals, and the crew in there now is the worst of that class (they are all somewhat political once they put on the star). We need warriors in the Stormin' Norman mold (read his bio sometime) to fight the politicians and political correctness that has run amok in the military.
Allen is having a Town Hall meeting next week, and I think I'll go. Any questions you'd like me to ask?

I don't really care that much for Romney ( though I don't have anything specific to say against him) because of the uncomfortable feeling that the "old guard" GOP has essentially decided he is the one; and I just don't trust them anymore.

To whom it may concern:
Due to your company's foolhardy decision to insert itself into the recent Limbaugh kerfuffle, I must ask you to please cancel my auto insurance policy, effective immediately.
I am aware that you were not one of his sponsors, yet you still felt the need to issue a statement distancing yourselves from Rush Limbaugh, thereby inserting yourselves into the debate and taking sides. This is most regrettable, as I have had no cause to be dissatisfied with the service your company provides. Unfortunately, I cannot abide hypocrisy, as I am aware that you advertise with various left wing outlets who have regularly defamed, slandered, and sexualized women. Apparently, if a woman is conservative she has it coming, according to the actions of both the institutionalized Left and it's boot-licking lackeys, of whom you are one.
Perhaps when Ms. Fluke is done agitating for totalitarian government control over private institutions and what their insurance policies MUST cover, transgender surgeries for example, http://thecollegepolitico.com/sandra-fluke-gender-reassignment-and-healt...
she might get around to thanking your company for coming so promptly to heel.

Santorum - Newt- Mitt the three amigos of destruction
Submitted by lrgon on Wed, 03/07/2012 - 5:50pm.
They are 3 peas in a pod.
The 3 amigos of the staus quo have embraced through their actions (very easily provable actions by the way) to grow the federal government and to not care about our nation's indebtedness and to blindly throw their support around a foreign policy run by elitists in Washignton to be a nation forever at war just for the sake of being at war!
The three peas in the rotten pod of establishment politics have sold their souls to the establishment just so that they can have a go at the White House.
Do they really love America? I doubt it. Newt once wrote a forward to a book by Alvin and Heidi Toffler in which the Tofflers invisioned US sovereignty and independence as an old fashioned concept that must die.
Newt was a nut back then and has had to tone down his big support for internationalism and "Future shock" Marxists. Ann Coulter exposed his connections to the marxists Tofflers.
Santorum never wrote forwards to books written by Marxists; he only supports their departments in Washington.
And Mitt, well no one really believes that nonsense about his change of heart on nationalized health care.
These three dummies see nothing UnChrist like to embrace a foreign policy of evil. Madeleine Albright described it thusly to Leslie Stahl when the liberal 60 Minutes asked Albright:
"We have heard that half a million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?"
Albright replied "we think the price is worth it."
The cost of destroying the lives of one half million kids via a war based UN embargo of medicine just to go after one man in power! Wow, talk about evil.
But that's how power mad liberals think and it's also how power mad neocons think.
The 3 amigos of perdition have forgotten that the middle eastern region once considered the US a friend. The Shah of Iran was our great ally and the ruler that made peace overtures to Israel. Could it be that the GOP has been following the foreign policy of Jimmy Carter? Carter deposed the Shah and made a mess of things and the GOP has stepped into what Carter created.
The only solution is to get back to the Constitution. Stop foreign aid, bring our troops home away from the abuses they suffer following UN directives. Build new bases at home and close the overseas ones and let Afghanistan, Iraq, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, et al, take care of their own defense budget. The cost of empire is not worth losing our liberties at home and destroying our economy over.
Send Rush, Hannity, Levine, Medved, Bill' O and the 3 amigos fight "over there." Give them a UN uniform since they are so gung ho war crazy. And anyone else war nutzo can join them.
You can try to dress your comments any way you like,
