Open Thread: Mitt Romney Releases Tax Records
Today's starter topic: After a long delay, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney released some of his tax records today. Even though they failed to adequately look at the background of President Obama, expect the media to be over these records like white on rice.
Will the records help Newt Gingrich intensify his attacks on Romney's venture capitalist background though? Will we keep complaints about Romney's wealth from the liberal media even though John Kerry's net worth is greater and that didn't seem to bother them? Or will the media move on to something else?

A blow gun with a poison tipped dart would have been better, but, barring that, perfect. :-)
The last time I saw a movie in a theater, a 20-something juvenile answered her cell phone and proceeded to relay what was happening on the screen. There were a dozen people in the theater and everyone gave her a look but she ignored all and kept talking. That was about 12 years ago.

Will NewsBusters be doing a chat room for the State of the Union tonight? I think it would a fun time for us all to get together and mock President Downgrade.
Maybe we can have a drinking game, just don't have it based on the word "I", we would all be plastered and under the table 10 minutes into the speech.
And if NewsBusters does not do a chat room I have one that I can make available to everyone.
Yes, we'll be having one

Personal Question (on conservatism) Trips Romney
Submitted by vrwc13 on Tue, 01/24/2012 - 11:26am.
Personal Question Trips Romney
It was a simple personal question, not Newt Gingrich, that exposed Mitt Romney's most glaring weakness during Monday night's debate.
Moderator Brian Williams, calling the election a battle for "the soul" of the GOP, asked the ex-Bay State governor what he had done to further the conservative movement.
Romney didn't offer a compelling answer.
"Well, number one, I've raised a family," he said. "And I've -- I've -- with my wife, we've raised five wonderful sons, and we have 16 wonderful grandkids."
...it ends with
The Gingrich campaign certainly reveled in his answer. Minutes after the debate ended, it sent an e-mail headlined "Mitt Romney's Top Conservative Achievements."
It was blank.
Romney may not be a RINO, but certainly a CINO

Disaster
Submitted by grapids38 on Tue, 01/24/2012 - 11:30am.
This is going to be a disaster for the next few months. The MSM is going to nit pick every figure and every punctuation mark on the tax return. Clinton made over 75 million in speaking fees since leaving office in 2001 according to CNN. I don't remember hearing anything on John Kerry's return in 2004. This is going to be a typical smear campaign in the media. Yuck!
You know grapids, candidates
Submitted by Scuba Dude on Tue, 01/24/2012 - 11:43am.
You know grapids, candidates tax returns are not as important to me as things like school transcripts and other documentation.
Clinton is a private citizen now (thank goodness), though I would like to know where he is getting his speaking fees from and how much they influence Hillary.
John Kerry married into money since he would fail if he ever had to be the sole provider. Has he ever had a job in his life?
I still would like to see President Downgrades school records. How good of a student was he? What were his grades? How did he pay for Columbia and Harvard? Where is his thesis?
There is a plethora of documentation that is missing from his life due to him having it under lock and key.

Is turning to milquetoast before our eyes. Please GOP candidate's stop doing what the left want you to do. Should have turned it around and said. I will show my tax returns when the President shows his college transcripts, birth certificate, student loan application etc. etc. etc. Although I consider myself a a "nice" guy. This race is not for nice guys. Don't let the opposition define how this race is going to be run. We are going to be polite, good sport losers in that case.

From now until Nov 6th, how about a compiling a score sheet of racist/sexist/class warfare accusations, nebulous "codeword" allegations, and comments taken out of context.
Points could be given based who makes the comment and how often they are repeated. There could be different categories (and subcategories):
An elected official on camera in primetime
With or without a teleprompter
Political party consultants speaking in spin rooms
Network anchors or morning show hosts
Weekday or Sunday morning
Rushlike media montage
Not bad, Buff

Caveman A goes hunting and brings back two 12 point bucks. His neighbor Caveman B comes over and looks at them. He asked how he did it. Caveman A tells B that he went out and found just the perfect peice of flynt to made his spearheads. He spent days making the spears. For days he practiced throwing his spears in preparation for the hunt. He then spent several hours stalking his prey. Caveman B said that sounds like a lot of work. I don't want to do that. You have so much. You have a bigger cave with paintings on the walls than I have so you need to share one of those bucks with me.
Nice...
Submitted by MightyMouth on Tue, 01/24/2012 - 12:08pm.
...but let's finish the story... Caveman B forms a union and forces Caveman A to work for Caveman B. Since Caveman B works for A, everything he has belongs to B. Including his wife. A cannot deal with this situation so he quits. He gets 99 weeks of free money and eventually finds another wife. This cycle is actually a pretty good deal for A, never out of money or new wives... Win win!!

Dave, that's why I've been calling myself a neo-racist conservative because anything that disagrees with Soetoro is considered racist. You might as well call yourself a neo-racist because the old definition of racist doesn't apply. That is the new(neo) definition that's being used these days, and I'm proud to call myself that.
I add on the neo because it gives you the advantage rather than the lib-msm calling you a racist wouldn't fit. So you come out ahead by beating them at their own game and you know they would hate it.

all I want to know is, what are the new tax rates -top to bottom- Obama proposes, and how soon after they are passed will the federal deficit be erased? The Republican Base Simply Does Not Like Mitt Romney & Why The Press Rarely Reports It
The Republican base does not trust Mitt Romney. Because they do not trust him, they do not like him as a candidate. His campaign, all too clever to try to sit on an ephemeral lead that any outside observer could see was more vaporware than reality, has decided to go fully negative now against Gingrich.
...and this will do nothing but hurt the GOP and McRomney doesn't care, because he is in it for himself.
