Open Thread: Rev. Al Sharpton in the Red?
The New York Post reported over the weekend that Rev. Al Sharpton's nonprofit company held $1.6 million in debt, and Sharpton's entire empire, which also includes the National Action Network and two for-profit companies, held a combined debt of $5.3 million. The National Action Network's debt stemmed mostly from nearly $1 million in unpaid federal payroll taxes, interest, penalties, and settlements for the unpaid bills. Sharpton himself, who earned a $241,732 salary from his nonprofit, reportedly owes the IRS $2.6 million in income taxes and almost $900,000 in state taxes.
Earlier this year, Sharpton advocated raising taxes on the rich to reach a debt ceiling deal. Do you think the media will pick up on Sharpton's taxation hypocrisy?
The Post went on to break down precisely how much money Sharpton owes to the state and federal government, in addition to private organizations:
The defunct Rev-Al Communications Inc. owes the state almost $176,000, and Bo-Spanky is $3,500 behind on state-tax liens.
Sharpton has said he is on a repayment plan with state and federal-tax authorities.
NAN last year took in more than $3 million in donations, which allowed it to chip away at its tax burden.
This year, its board of directors voted to resolve the tax issues and paid all back state taxes, said Executive Director Tamika Mallory The civil-rights group is also addressing the $883,503 it owes in federal payroll taxes, she added.
And it is close to finished repaying the Peabody Hotel in Memphis $106,981 owed since 2008, when NAN skipped out on its bill after its annual convention, according to its 2010 audited financial statements.
Do you think a conservative pundit in Sharpton's situation would receive the same media pass?

Maybe Al and Jon and others contributed too much to the Won's PACs?
UPDATE: Regulators know where MF GLOBAL funds went... it will be interesting to see what they found out.

What can we say about a guy who curses the "Top 1%" for not paying their 'fair share' of taxes, when he himself hasn't paid them?
Look at prominent Democrats who were in arrears when Obama took office. Geithner still got the Treasury job. Daschle backed out of the HHS nomination, and Sebilius had to pay back taxes to accept it. They practically had to wrestle Rangel away from his Chairmanship of the House Ways & Means Committee after his tax cheating was certified, and he had the gall to ask Pelosi to give him the job back.
It's not that they don't get it. It's that they don't care what we really think of them.
Yup.

Victorious Tebow would unleash Mosque-burning, gay bashing...

I suppose it was inevitable....
My Tebow Problem
(all bolds are mine)
I want to root for the guy, but I’m afraid of what will happen if the hulky Denver Bronco quarterback continues to pull off what is fast becoming the Greatest Gridiron Story Ever Told.
It's really deplorable. He starts off by casting this weekend's Bronco's/Patriots game in terms of religion, and even anti-Semitism.
Next Sunday, the Broncos host the New England Patriots in a game coveted so much by the networks that NBC and CBS sparred in unprecedented fashion over who would get to broadcast it. And why not? While the Patriots are adored by their fans (myself included), to many nationwide they are regarded as the Sons of Darkness, with their perfectly coiffed Hollywood quarterback and their brilliant – one might say diabolical – hoodie-clad coach. And, oh yes, the most identifiably Jewish owner in sports. Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and Bob Kraft are all upstanding citizens, moral exemplars in their home communities, but in this Oberammergau of the Rockies, they are playing the role of Pilate.
But that's not the worst of it.
Money Quote:
If Tebow wins the Super Bowl, against all odds, it will buoy his faithful, and emboldened faithful can do insane things, like burning mosques, bashing gays and indiscriminately banishing immigrants.

browsing to the original article, I read this toward the end of the piece:
Little of this insanity, mind you, has to do with Tebow himself. I admire much of what he stands for. His mom’s decision to risk her own life rather than abort her fetus flies against my own – and Judaism’s – values, but neither am I pro-choice in all cases. His story is so improbable that if he were to win it all, a part of me would be wondering whether there is a Purpose behind it, just as I saw a divine hand in the equally unbelievable Red Sox victory of 2004. And it makes me wonder whether other Jews, the ones who don’t happen to have advanced degrees in religion and a few decades of rabbinic experience, might be even more seduced by this unfolding drama. Will legions of Southern Baptist missionaries hit the college campuses the very next day, spreading this new gospel of Tim? Already there is a “Jews for Tebow” Facebook page.
Tebow used to wear eye black citing Ephesians 2:8-10, which states, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith (in Jesus).” His avenue to salvation is not available to those Jews who wish to remain Jewish.
So... It seems that he is afraid that some Jews will be drawn to Christianity because of the example set by Tebow (Exactly what the Bible says should happen). He also seems to think that included in Judaism's values is that mothers should value their own lives above their children. This seems odd to me and is very different from my experiences with the Jewish faith. Then there is that last sentence... Speaking as a Christian, it seems to be an illogical statement. I could use the analogy of someone claiming that the path to freedom is not open to those slaves who wish to remain slaves.
He also left out 2/3 of the quote that says "it is a gift from GOD, not through any merit of actions, so none should boast before GOD. So the path is open to all. You can continue to toil in the fields and try to glean the leftovers and get enough to eat , or you can come up to the manor house and accept the open invitation from the first born son to sit at the table and eat with the other guests. Your choice.
And for this, the messenger of the available choice is demonized and persecuted.

Leftists all sound the same regardless of their religious affiliation. The Rabbi's education and vocation focus his irrationality into religious commentary, but the text essentially dissolves into usual unstable Leftist mantra's of insecurity and willful ignorance. Additionally, for a man who makes his living from the donations of others, the Rabbi's irrational diatribe may be calculated to maintain his well being as well as promote his importance within his group. Or, he could just be batshite paranoid and need to lay off the Manischewitz.

Wow. Hard to believe. Gotta hand it to him... he's gotta lotta nerve! The only reason pukes like Sharpton have The Audacity Of Hope to even TRY to get away with such stunning hypocrisy is that they know Snuffaluffagus and Co (aka 'JournOlists') will provide cover for them. After all, in modern journOlism, what IS and IS NOT 'news' is all in the eye of the broadcaster.
Anyway, they've got better things to do like Tweeting For NewtDirt and mowing Obowma's grass the same as they did yesterday (and the day before).
And isn't it conveeenient for them? Without fail, whenever I bring up a subject like this to a leftie, I get the ol' "I haven't heard that/ That can't be right" rope-a-dope which is always closely followed by some incarnation of "Bush did it too". The next thing you know they are claiming "The stimulus saved us from another Great Depression" and VOILA!... The Good Rev is below the fold.
