Open Thread: Jon Stewart Mocks Class Divisions at Occupy Wall Street

By NB Staff | November 18, 2011 | 11:59

A  A

In case you haven't seen it yet, the Daily Show host Jon Stewart did a segment on the class divisions at Occupy Wall Street, while OWS protesters were supposedly protesting for a classless society. In the two months of occupation in Zuccotti Park, OWS had evolved a hierarchal system with an upper class living in one end of the park and a lower class living in the other end of the park.

Check out the segment after the break, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The Daily Show

The contradictions of the OWS protesters abound: one man is asked to share his iPad 2 with the rest of the protesters and refused, trying to draw a distinction between "private" and "personal" property, another man, in very politically correct terms, said the lower class end rarely contributed any real work or ideas to the protest, and an organizational group of leaders met in the Deutsche Bank lobby on Wall Street to have a quiet meeting space away from the park.

What do you think of the clip?

Even tho I hate Stewart and his smug, snarky mugging (I fast forwarded through his part) I gotta give the Daily Show credit for that piece. Funny, and incredibly revealing. A must watch

On another topic: all child abuse is reprehensible, disgusting and repugnant, but I'm interested to see what the media's reaction to the child sex abuse at two universities will be long term. They piled on the Catholic Church for its scandal, and are still bringing it up years later. So now that it's a couple of liberal institutions that are under the microscope, will the lib media pile on them? Highly doubtful. I'm sure it'll be "the Catholic Church is evil because it allowed the molestation of children, but at the universities it was just isolated incidents"

Yet another topic: apparently there are new allegations that Robert Wagner was responsible for Natalie Wood's death. I know they're just unsubstantiated (at this point) allegations, and way too early in this new investigation to convict, but if he is convicted that'd make two actors from the first Austin Powers movie to be sentenced for violent crimes they committed before the movie was made. Will he share a cell with Random Task?

Poor old Broncos coaching staff.  You just tried your best to take a proven winner and turn him into a losing NFL quarterback, and you can't do it in spite of the fact that he is a good kid and does what you morons tell him to do.  That's the way his momma raised him.

One small problem. When the game is on the line, and it is crunch time, Timmy starts playing the game the way he knows how if you want him to win. He means no disrespect, I'm sure, but at a certain point a man just has to do what he has to do for himself and his team mates. Win the damned game!

Why don't you try REALLY coaching the team to play an offense that will suit his ability to turn chicken Shiite into chicken salad, coaches?

God bless him.

I also caught Steve Young talking about Tebow on ESPN earlier. Both of them are from the "if you don't do it the way I did it, you're doing it wrong" school of quarterbacking.

I've about had my fill of the pregame shows. Last night on the NFL network Deion Sanders was mouthing off about Timmy. Then there is that bunch on ESPN. Chris Carter and Coach Ditka are the only 2 worth watching. They all like to dump on Timmy. Then they lavish praise on Scam Newton. I would like to ask them how many laptops Timmy stole while at Florida? How much money did Tim's dad get for him to go to Florida?

Somewhere in the mix, I think that Warren 'Mr. Tax Me More' Buffet, stands to make a boatload of money with his railroad investments if the pipeline isn't built. Plus, what does Boy Barry care about jobs??? He's proven beyond any shadow of any doubt that it doesn't matter much to him - especially if they are private sector jobs.

Not only will Buffet get his millions (see below) but shock of all shockers - Obama has upset another ally: (both articles are worth scanning)

“This is just another signal that Canada is going to have to diversify away from the United States, not just in energy but in everything else we can.”

As a result, North Dakota's booming oil producers will have to rely even more on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad, which Buffett just bought, to ship it to refineries.Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has agreed to buy Burlington Northern Santa Fe in a deal valuing the railroad at $34 billion. Berkshire Hathaway already owns about 22% of Burlington Northern, and will pay $100 a share in cash and stock for the rest of the company.

You know, if Soetoro was a CEO of any company doing all this stuff, the Board of Directors would have tossed his sorry ass out before even a YEAR came and went.

In the meantime, everything and I mean EVERYTHING that's happened, almost everyone in Congress, both sides, either say he's wrong and doesn't understand what's going on or are cheering his moves.

How much plainer can it get, these are deliberate acts to destroy this country economically, and this should be painfully obvious, the pipeline=20,000+ jobs created by the private sector, as well as the shale cancellation killed 200,000+ jobs, again by the private sector.  This is an all out war against the private sector, for God's sake and those involved like Buffett and Soros with their companies, they will make DAMN sure that it won't benefit the private sectors as well as doing it on their terms.

It makes little business.....no, scratch that, it makes NO business sense to do any of these things, which means it's deliberate to do it that way, why won't people see that???  What the hell are they so damned afraid of?

What you have here is an inverse juxtaposition of the logarithmic scalar components of Boyle's Law relative to the reduction of solar radiation's impact on atmospheric convection currents which would normally sustain minimal levels of Brownian Motion in contiguous air masses at lower altitudes coupled, of course, with diminished intermixing of relatively warmer volumes of air.

Or, it could just be really cold there.  I'm not sure.  But I'm going to fall back on that staple of climate change alarmist methods and practices:  IMTAU

OWS Bat signal

Submitted by bkeyser on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 3:55pm.

So, there's a story in NY Mag about the creation of the new "OWS Bat Signal". Funny how there's seemingly no blur to the image projected on the building, nor is the light beam visible (see the YouTube vid at the link.) Personally, I'm not buying it; this seems like more favorable press intended to portray this ragtag group of addicts as techno-savy and developing some sort of message. It also defies the reason behind the "bat signal" -which was to alert Batman that he was needed in that vicinity.

I think the reason NY Mag published this bogus article was because their crack team of investigative reporters came across what the OWS GA actually voted for in the way of a "bat signal" - after several different working groups were organized to put together ideas. I'm told they all came up with only one, and all were exactly the same. Somehow, the real "OWS Bat Signal" just doesn't put forth that strong, cohesive, cognizant message that the media wishes upon them. I wonder why...

The Fire

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 11/19/2011 - 12:50am.

I've been reading about the Fire and it sounds like it really could be a good contender for the iPad2, especially with the price.  I'll go by BestBuy this weekend to check it out, but as far as using a tablet goes, right now, out of all the ones I've seen, the Transformer is the top contender for me because I could definitely use it at my job and use a mobile WiFi for it, heard Verizon has a nice deal where you can get a 5gb plan for 50 bucks a month on it, that'd be awesome to have anywhere I go.

I haven't checked the Fire's specs yet, but what's selling me on the Transformer(or the Prime when it comes out next month) is that it uses the same glass that is used on the Samsung Captivate which is what's used for the Super AMOLED for damn good quality video and pictures(I didn't want the iPhone after all, traded it in, plus I hate the iOS).  Plus, I like using Droid, to me it's a lot easier to use because I can get into it and control how much I want running in the background and etc, I like being able to modify it if I want to too.(I'm not into the cookie cutter stuff, the "one-stop" doesn't work for me)  But as they say, it's what works for me.
