Open Thread: The Liberal-Conservative Double Standard
There is a notable double standard that exists between what Republicans and Democrats are allowed to say. The same words can be construed as racist or sexist when coming from a Republican, but entirely admissible when coming from a Democrat.
Rep. Allen West recently wrote a strongly-worded letter targeting Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz for berating him behind his back on the House floor. He received a number of complaints calling him sexist, while Wasserman Schultz, who has made a number of similar, potentially offensive comments, received none of the same flak. Do you think the overt push for political correctness has led to this double standard? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Wasserman Schultz, also the chairwoman of the DNC, is known for making somewhat outlandish statements. In March, she said young children in poverty who aren't in school will likely end up as criminals. In April, she called the GOP budget plan a "death trap for some seniors." In May, she called the GOP effort to end federal funding of Planned Parenthood a "war on women." In June, she said Republicans "want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws."
While these statements can easily be taken as racist, sexist, or outright lies, few called her out for making any of these remarks. In July, when she went to the House floor in West's absence to denounce him for voting for Cut, Cap, and Balance, saying West supported “protecting tax breaks for Big Oil, millionaires and companies who ship jobs overseas,” while “increas[ing] the costs for Medicare beneficiaries," West finally took a stand against her.
West wrote an email in response to Wasserman Schultz's remarks:
From: Z112 West, Allen
Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2011 04:48 PM
To: Wasserman Schultz, Debbie
Cc: McCarthy, Kevin; Blyth, Jonathan; Pelosi, Nancy; Cantor, Eric
Subject: Unprofessional and Inappropriate Sophomoric Behavior from Wasserman-Schultz
Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional ,and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!
I am bringing your actions today to our Majority Leader and Majority Whip and from this time forward, understand that I shall defend myself forthright against your heinous characterless behavior……which dates back to the disgusting protest you ordered at my campaign hqs, October 2010 in Deerfield Beach.
You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!
Steadfast and Loyal
Congressman Allen B West (R-FL)
As explained at the Daily Caller,
Wasserman Schultz has gone after West before, most notably at a 2010 rally outside his campaign headquarters where she claimed he thought it was alright “to objectify and denigrate women.”
In an interview with talk radio host Mark Levin last month, shortly after the House floor incident, West noted: “I’m the threat because I’m the guy that got off their [liberal] plantation, and they cannot afford to have a strong voice such as mine out there.”

A (purposeful) mispelling of the Jewish slur 'hebe'. While before 'hebe' was an ethnic slur, 'heeb' is a word of pride regarding ones Jewish identity. This transformation is due in large part to the emerging Jewish youth culture comming out of New York City.

Too bad for her, she picked on the wrong guy. Allen West doesn't care one iota what anyone calls him, you should hear him joke about it in person. I'm sure he was happy to have the opportunity to fire back at the little twit for being so inappropriate as to call him out personally on the floor of the House.

Yes, yes. So begins the Newsbusters hazing ritual, whereby the 12 full-time commentors accuse new members of being liberal trolls. I figured this would happen, but the predictability is frightening. As soon as someone has an opinion that even differs slightly from the Newsbusters party line, they get shouted down and accused of communism/liberalism, etc. I'm a life long Republican voter who's tired of both parties (I got absolutely slammed in the markets this week and I'm sick of it). I refuse to support any of these jackals. Sorry if it hurts your feelings, but the Republicans are just as bad as the Democrats these days. You said, "...had he responded in a rational manner, he would have exposed her for the fraud that she truly is. Instead, the discussion turned toward his immaturity..." Well, that is precisely the point being made here by other posters supportive of West's response. (Me included). Suddenly it is WEST who is immature, it is WEST who is racist, it is WEST who is denigrating women...yadda yadda yadda ad infinitum. All the attention focused on WEST and none on Whatsherface-Schultzie. What about her immaturity? What about her track record of making irresponsible and baiting remarks? And what about her waiting until Rep. West left the chamber before she tossed out her insulting remarks? That's nothing more than the mark of a coward, a race-baiter, someone unwilling to speak to West face-to-face, but more than willing to slander him behind his back with the media in full tilt listening to her every remark. And that has been the historic GOP position, to maintain their decorum and not fire back.
Well, guess what libtards?...not any more! I thought West's remarks and response put DWS in her place, and its high time someone did. The only way we're going to turn the liberally-biased media on the butts is to confront them with what they hate the most...truth....

Look, I like West, but I was disappointed by his tone and word choice. Again, he appeared to be petty, thin-skinned, and immature. He should have simply called her out without inflammatory rhetoric. My beef with Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach is that they are charging $10 a day to park at some of the accesses. That ain't right. I feel they are already gouging tourist enough. While you are there try and visit the NC Aquarium and Fort Macon. If you get time go over to Beaufort and visit the NC Maritime Museum. Also visit the waterfront at Beaufort. I don't think that Alan Cheeks' gallery is there anymore but he used to paint some great scenes of the coast. If you get the chance try and find some Bogue Sound melons. May have some at Gardner's Produce on the right on 70 as you are leaving Morehead City.
By the way Fort Macon and the Maritime Museum are free. I don't really have any eating places to recommend. The only place we eat there is the Mongolian Grill in the shopping center where Rose's is located.

I don't expect people to realize at this point what this bogus potus is doing, if they haven't figured it out by now, they'll figure it out way too late. The Markets won't put up with this nonsense and they will pull out (some have already started).

comes to mind when the media ignore the faux pas of their favored class of people and attack those they despise.
The famous Orwellian phrase "some of us are more equal than others" describes the snootiness and the nastiness of the agenda-driven MSM. They aren't so stupid that they don't realize their own hypocrisy at going after some and letting others off the hook for doing the same thing. They just don't let their hypocrisy get in the way of their agenda. And shutting out dissent to their marxist agenda is an important facet to their overall scheme. http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/behind-the-big-news-propaganda-and-the-cfr/
Somewhat related is how the media treats the current occupant of the people's Executive House.
If the president had an epiphany tonight and repented of his marxist ways, by tomorrow morning the media would be denouncing him. Since he's not about to change his ways we can NEVER lose sight of the fact that he is a committed leftist that will only "move to the center" when he knows he can come out on top after the smoke clears. Therefore the media will treat him with kid gloves but will put on the mailed fist for anyone who steps outside the imaginary circle that the Media has drawn.

I love all the guitars you mentioned, and quite a few more. I seem to be on a break from playing now. Consequently, I am not acquiring gear either. Good for the wallet but maybe not so much the soul.
Speaking of rats... saw a PBS show today about an Australian rat researcher somewhere in Asia tracking a cyclical phenomena of rats reproducing like crazy and then eating all the crops in one night that subsistence farmers grew. The cycle was initiated by bamboo fruit falling on the ground which triggered an unnatural 4 cycles of reproduction in a short time such that the number of rats culminated in their evening of frenzied voracious eating. When the bamboo fruit fell in relation to planting and maturation time before harvest determined which village's food was wiped out or not in this every 48 year (?) event. (yes, the villagers ate rat as part of their regular diet)
Hope that doesn't happen where you're at, otherwise you might want Oreo to start a family... a big family... to keep a lid on things. :-)
Well, I had a 61 Jazzmaster
Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 08/05/2011 - 12:33am.
Well, I had a 61 Jazzmaster in high school - my first electric, with a DeLuxe amp - beige color. I used to play in over-21 bars and roadhouses when I was a junior and senior - talk about getting an education that I could never have gotten in high school!!! It's a good thing that my parents didn't know what the hell was going on in those places. My dad was just amazed that I'd make $15-$20 a night for 'playing that damn guitar'!!! I think that damn guitar would be worth something today.
And I did go to college for a while - and I had bands - and I acquired an old, original Gibson Melody Maker, which was pretty cool. And I played bass in one band, so I had a maroon Gibson SG bass - a la Jack Bruce (but this was before Cream), and it was good because it was smaller, and I could play and sing at the same time. I also bought one of those original Rickenbacker basses......but the neck seemed really long after playing the Gibson.
Actually, in high school, I had a Danelectro (black and white, like my cat), and my good friend who also played in the band had a Kay - both very cheap guitars, but WOW, what a sound!!! I actually poked a couple holes in my speaker to get that thick 'Rumble' tone......my friends thought I was out of my mind!!!
I also had a Gibson 335 later on, which was a great rhythm guitar for the set-up I was playing in, because it has a great thick bottom tone, and a good middle tone............and good warm sustain and bite. I've seen BB King live, and Lucille is something like that............I'lll tell you, his 'live' tone is WAY heavier and more intense than his recorded tone!!!
These days I've got a SG custom (a la Angus Young) , and a reproduction Danelectro.........but I keep a little 3/4 size acoustic in my truck - for the beach and lunch time at work...........and I have a really nice jumbo acoustic here at home. I rarely play electric anymore, although I played one at a party not too long ago, and I did OK.
There's a guy over here - a chiropractor from Japan - who is a real blues afficianado and a damn good guitart player. You should see the collection this guy has!!! It's got to be worth multi-six figures, if not more!!!
I'll tell Oreo your story!!!
Great story. All those fun

Great story. All those fun guitars and gigs. Hear you about playing dives.
My first electric (black with 2 humbucks on a Stratocaster-like body) and acoustic were Epiphone. My first amp was a Gibson Hawk - 25 watt, 2 channel, spring reverb and tremelo, and 15" speaker. I still have all three of them, for sentimental reasons, but the amp is in pieces. It had that "rumble" tone from a tear, but I didn't poke it on purpose. ;-)
Last guitar I bought was the 1961 reissue SG when it came out. Played it a couple times and then packed it away. Went back to my Strat. Sorry, don't mean to pain you. I was tinkering with the idea of a Gretsch Duo Jet.
The collection of the chiropracter's sounds awesome, and even better if he lets you play them. I know some guys who rent temp/humidity controlled spaces just for their guitars. Insane collections.

I was working for another contracter at the time, and we were building a house for this Japanese chiropractor - this was some years ago. I knew the guy played....and he also surfed, so I'd see him around off the job too. He's a pretty nice guy. Once I saw him at the beach when I was getting ready to go surfing. I asked him if he was going out also. He said, in his Japanese accent, that he had just flown back from Japan, and was suffering from 'jet rag'!!! I also remember talking to him once, and he told me that he thought 'Eric Crapton is a good brues-man'!!!
I helped him outfit his guitar room, actually. He gave me his handdrawn plans about how he wanted it to be, and we made the place like that, with the AC and humidifiers and all of the hooks hanging from the wall in the spaces that he wanted them. Then he started to bring his equipment over when he was moving in, and I helped him Jeez.........the guitars just kept coming!!! And he's got some CLASSICS!!! Nothng phony there!!! Plus he had some great classic amps too!!! Yeah, he let me play a couple....he probably still would, if I visited him. I've sat in with their band a couple of times - since I know the guys - but usually they had me do some Howlin' Wolf impersonation or some other blues classic.....they've got good players.
Nah.....I always had a lot of respect for people who could play those ultra-sensitive Fenders!! I saw Hendrix over here four times - he loved coming to Hawaii. Telecasters scared the hell out of me, because if you breathed wrong, they would make an ugly sound!! Those C&W players are in another ballpark. Even Keef plays an old Tele.......but he's a riff'n'rhythm guy. Springsteen plays one too...........well, he sort of abuses it!!!
Ya can't disrespect Gretsches!!! George Harrison sure did OK with his. Chet Atkins??? I've seen Stephen Stills on one, and Brian Setzer plays the hell out of his too. I always thought they were pretty cool.
Ahhhh..........playing in those dives and roadhouses was really a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It was impossible for me to take the high school girls too seriously!!! Hahahaha!!! I didn't have too many 'dates', because I was usually playing on weekends, but the action was way more exciting!!!
Keep spankin' the plank!!

Hendrix 4 times? Good golly Miss Molly! I don't think his sister saw him that many times back in the 60's in concert or not.
Yeah, a lot of great players have used Gretsch's. Course you can say that about many guitars nowadays. As usual, it ain't the axe but the chops behind it that counts. I could squeeze out a decent a note or two but no one's gonna ask me to tour with Eric Crapton. :-)
I have a 1977 Telecaster from the stoopid CBS era. Has a ding on the front that someone did a poor job of touching up before I bought it, but the rest is in fantastic shape It is a little touchy now that you mention, but it can chicken scratch even if I can't.
Speaking about Les Pauls, there was one I wish hadn't gotten away. A used early 2000's some guy brought in to sell while I was in the store. Plugged into a random Marshall at the store without futzing with controls, it gave the most amazing sustain and tone. Guitar played like butter. I balked cause he was asking top dollar. Couple days later called the guy up and it was gone. So I turned to my trusty, always at the ready, low maintenance, never complaining, lighter than a Les Paul Stratocaster.

Hendrix' sister probably DIDN'T see him four times.............they sure had that poor guy moving non-stop!!! I think the business killed him, actually. I also caught Zep at a small old auditorium in Honolulu on their first tour.......there might have been 2,500 people there, and I could stand pretty close!!! They were GOOD!!! Page mostly played his Les Paul - you wonder how such a skinny little Englishman can carry all that hair AND that heavy guitar!!! But he also pulled out a Danelectro for a couple of numbers, as well as his SG doubleneck - although this was before 'Stairway to Heaven'.........or was that 'Stairway to Free Bird'!!!
He also did his violen bow thing - with some delay and effects............but that guy can play as well as anybody every could!!1''
Oh yeah........caught the Jeff Beck group too, back then - with Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on bass, Nicky Hopkins on piano, and Mickey Waller on drums...............now THEY kicked some serious butt too!!!! Lotta ego-interplay between young Stewart and the allready-rock-legend Beck....which was maybe 1968???? Now you've got to think about how long Ronnie Wood has been on the scene...............
Yeah.......one of the times I saw Hendrix, I was pretty close, and on his side of the stage.............I'm not sure what planet the guy was from, but he sure as hell was in sync with his axe!!! And, during a drum solo by the ever-so-finesseful Mitch Mitchell, I swear I saw Hendrix take one drag from a cigarette - off stage - that burned the WHOLE cigarette!!!!

This was the summer Frampton was recording Frampton Comes Alive!, and he played a lot of it. Don't know if they were recording but none of it ended up on the album as far as I know.
I went there to hear one of my favorite bands, Pure Prairie League. I remember some things about that day like it was yesterday. They all were good, even the Hello People and their one hit wonder Future Shock. (just read that Rundgren backed the band - probably how they got on the ticket)
Pretty tame compared to the stuff you cut your teeth on, but it was big time for me. :-)
The Runt lives a couple miles
Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 08/06/2011 - 4:40am.
The Runt lives a couple miles down the highway from me...........he's good friends with a guy I used to be in a couple bands with. We did a big jam at Rundgren's birthday party a few years ago.......lots of fun. I only know him casually, but he's around when he's not working.
I remember PPL.....they had a good sound. I think that you're younger than me......but that's good for you!!!
Actually,in the 60's, we'd get a lot of acts coming through Honolulu - and at the time, I lived on the north shore, so we'd drive in and see these bands whenever they came to play. I saw Creedence before they broke big - they were really tight and very good. They blew away the headliner, which was Vanilla Fudge - an east coast psuedo-drama/soul white band. We saw the Doors, but they were a disapponitment, unfortunatly. The Stones did about a 25 minute amphetimine laced gig when I was in high school, with Brian Jones. The Beatles played here - but I wasn't here at that time. That would've been good, if you could hear them, because they were, at one time, a very tight band.
Saw Stevie Ray 3 times......now that boy can play!!! First time, he was opening for the Police, and nobody knew who he was, so I got to stand right in front of the stage. You know his one favorite guitar - the sunburts Strat?? There's a reason it looks like that.........he beat the living hell out of it!!! And threw it on the stage during 'Third Stone from the Sun', and was 'walking' it with his strap, and stomping on the wah-wah bar while his amps were sounding like a damn out of control freight-train!!! AND holding it down with his boot while he bent the neck upward, to create even more of a wild multi-dimensional sound!!!
Yeah..........Ike.......but the guy has some history in the blues - he was there, you know??? He's played with Muddy Waters and a Howlin' Wolf and a lot of those other Chicago guys back in the early 50's.........you can't take it away from him. I actually had a short fling with a girl who worked for Tina, when they were still together. She pretty much verified all of these Ike stories. She also said that Tina is always wearing a wig........or 'wighat', as they say.
I don't get to see much anymore, especially on the island where I live. One of my ex-bandmates plays bass for Taj Mahal, so I've seen them a couple of times here. I caught the Butch Trucks Band recently - really really good, and his wife came up and did a couple numbers, and she is great. I know Tom Petty's road manager, and he'd like to get Petty to play over here, but it's big bucks, and we probably couldn't support the gig, unless he wanted to take a loss, just to play here and have a little vacation.
Hell, Graham Nash, Glenn Frey, the lead singer for Red Hot Chile Peppers, Rundgren........and other's that I forget all live over here part-time or have houses here............that guy who starred in 'the Big Lebowski' used to live up the road from me....what's his name??? Micheal something??? I'd see him driving on my road. I even saw Steven Tyler boppin' down a country road a few years ago when we were building a house down by this little bay.
Oh yeah.....Stephen Stills sat in with our band one night.......great player, massive ego. Kenny Loggin's drummer BEGGED us to sit in one night too.......he wanted to 'play some rock'!!! Hahahaha!!! Boy........he laid down the law!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhh.........it's a lot of fun, and it's mental and spiritual relief from the never-ending BS that goes on in this world.
Keep spanking the plank, strat...........

Good post. This is why you get the psychiatric big bucks. ;)
In simple terms, reasoning with a bully results in more bullying. Unless the bully has some life changing event to alter their disposition, or interest in a new target takes hold, the only way to stop the behavior of the bully is to not only mirror their behavior but to do so in an overwhelming fashion.
Battles/fights are not won because both sides are evenly match - they are won because the winner is superior in one or more areas of the skills, weaponry, conditioning, commitment, etc.
An obvious exception was Gandhi's non-violent protests. This tactic worked because the British felt shame. Debbie WhereMyBrain Shitz, (of the Wasserman Crime Family) and many other Leftists apparently, have no shame.

This will enable them to continue the liberal time honored tradition of avoiding any and all criticism on policy, stance, etc. by utterly ignoring issues at hand to cry racism and sexism.

Ahhhhh, less than 36 hours to go before the mandatory 2 week vacation starts. Ireland here I come!!!!!!!
Looks like it is a balmy 55 degrees or so there. Will be a change from the 90 plus temp and humidity that NYC has been subjected to.

I will check them out when I can bk. Nice lineup you saw, though I will say I lost interest in Def Leppard after the "Adrenalize" album.

They played their new one "Undefeated" which is more like something off of Hysteria, and "Rock On" from Yeah, and everything else except "Two Steps Behind" was from Hysteria or older. I recorded "Two Steps" only because my crappy little digital camera couldn't handle the heavy sound from the non-acoustic stuff. That's on the Flickr site too, in three parts due to the 90sec limitation Flickr has for video. There's also a Heart set when you're looking around. One brief recording of them, same reason but Ann can still really sing. Anyway, great show, great seats, good time all around.
They were pretty good picks.

They were pretty good picks. You looked like you were somewhat close to the stage. How's the hearing? ;-)

How were the Wilson sisters
Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 08/05/2011 - 1:08am.
How were the Wilson sisters looking??? The guitar player is a babe, in my opinion..........and she can spank the plank too!!! The lead singer has some pipes, and is quite good looking.......but apparantly doesn't pay attention to Mooooooooooooochelle's diet policies. I saw a video biography on Heart.............jeez, they were as incestuous and messed- up as anyone else that you could imagine!!!
My son went to a Def Leppard concert a while ago - he's 30, so they are a little before his time. But he said he was going to rent a poodle haircut wig, and wear a tank top, and cut up some tight jeans...........and then see if he could 'pull some 40-year-olds'!!
Hahahaha!!!! The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree!!! But he said thay were pretty good, although he wasn't real familiar with their material.

Here's some pics and one short vid of Heart. Ann still sings fantastic- Nancy is still Nancy in every respect. I first saw Leppard in '83, then the next time in '03. I've seen them several times since and they were as good this time as I've ever seen them.

Does this idiot even know what "sexual harassment" is? Does she think that this is a threat to hurl at a man when she's not getting her way?

John Stossel's foot today, backing up while trying to exit the high tech security system at News Corp's headquarters in NYC. He's fine. I had an interview at the Rupert Murdoch "palace" for a digital/web design freelance job :)
No, I did not rub shoulders (or feet) with any other biggies, although I was not far from Hannity, O'Reilly, and the rest, I'm sure.
FYI, Stossel's maybe 5' 10", tops ;)

The AP is right there giving us all the details. They tell us "Even on her husband's birthday, Michelle Obama couldn't resist poking fun at his graying hair."
Gee, sounds like Mooch was there, instead of in Spain on another Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous vacation. Nowhere do the words Spain or vacation appear in the 12 paragraph "article."

It's bias in the favor of liberals. Liberal men can say whatever nasty, sick, perverted nonsense comes into their heads about Palin, Bachmann, Malkin, or Coulter and you don't hear a peep from the Righteous Indignation Professionals of the Left. Liberal men and women can make the vilest accusations against conservative black men without being called racist, while no conservative is allowed to have philosophical differences with Obama; it's always really about his race. It isn't about being politically correct, it's about defending the Left and it's agenda. Which is power. Unlimited power over as many people as possible. If you get in the way of that they'll do their best to make you a greasy spot on the carpet.
They are in for one hell of a surprise.

I DID inform a variety of my lib acquaintences before the last (s)election that the Commies AND the Socialists were endorsing Boy Barry, as well as getting fund-raising and illegal contributions from Moooooooooooooooooooslem countries...........but they either called me a liar, or didn't want to hear about it. So it's no surprise that he's getting these endorsments again. And it'll be no surprise that a lot of these dopes will have the same reaction........although I have to say that I DO know a few of them that have 'seen the light'..........which, unfortunatly, has come at a much later time than when you and me and others have 'seen the darkness'!!!
